It's like the play calling at times is like a bingo machine, whatever comes up. It's sickening how they all do their jobs, can make good play calls and then just suddenly slow down, change it on a dime. And it costs you the game.

Obviously Carey doesn't think Huff is his best player. I'm beginning to wonder why Carey doesn't want Huff scoring touchdowns...

Santa has continued to improve, my guess is that he will learn from his mistakes tonight.

Not at all sure about Carey though.

Carey did nearly everything right tonight.
He held Penny the best RB in the nation!
He limited their offense.
He outplayed their incredible offense.
He scored 4 offensive TD's.
He made excellent second half adjustments.
Had Santa executed properly in the end NIU would have won, and Carey would be a hero.

Though i dont agree with the throw for the endzone (rather run the ball since itnwss working and kill the clock), I think the coaching staff did well tonight. We outplayed the #19 team but santa and our special teams made some mistakes that cost us.

All you do is pound Huff in the end and you win the game, that's going to sting for awhile.

It's hard to run run run when you're playing from behind the entire game. Pin this on the coaching all you want, but the team needed to secure the ball. It's that simple.

And yet the Nebraska board was filled with coach hate last week. The Aztec board is filled with coach hate tonight. Apparently every team has coaching problems. But the Carey haters are probably the only ones who nailed it. Man these guys have insight.

Imagine if our Carey haters had to deal with The Illini?

He'd rather throw TD passes. If not he wants Childers to score. Anyone but Huff.

Coach Kane stopped the SDSU O. Not Carey...

The issue was the drive where NIU bailed out the SDSU defense that was getting it handed to them by the run. You continue to run the ball and you walk away with a top 25 win.

What I took from this game is we have an offense now. And our defense is absolutely legit. We won every battle in this game except turn overs. SDSU a well coached, veteran lead team who doesn't make mistakes. We may have more talent than them, but not their discipline. Bring on MAC play.

Live by the arm die by the arm. We played better then them but made 3 really stupid turnovers/plays. Ko return to start the game... Pick 6 and game ending pick. Any one of those things didn't happen and we're winning the game. I agree that coach u should not have called a pass play but the ball was under thrown.

NIU/SDSU game thread
Is this the best Defense NIU has ever had? Gotta give props to Kane and his group. Nobody is going to shut down Penny and that offense like we did today. I can't wait to see what they do in the MAC. First time I can ever remembering watching an NIU team and expecting the D to make big stop after big stop. I'm finally getting images of the Hansbro twins getting burned every play out of my head

F the "what have you done lately world". Win the MAC West. At the beginning of the year we would have been thrilled with that. It is now REALITY.

RE: NIU/SDSU game thread
I think Santa is still a little too impatient but I'd rather he not be so afraid of making a mistake that he can't make the throws that he does make, so let him play and learn. A close game against SDSU (and there were other mistakes, like on special teams), I can deal with it. He's still young and hasn't played much.

Other than the really dirty play by that defensive player on Penny, I thought the defense did very well.

Unbelievable. You honestly think Carey is calling plays so that back up QBs score instead of Huff. Brilliant stuff... especially since Carey doesn't call plays

MAC West will be interesting with Toledo having a very good offense, and Western Michigan destroyed Ball State today.

It's not so much I think Carey is a terrible head coach, it's just so damn frustrating to sputter at the end. Plus, some of the playcalling in the BC game garners a 01-wingedeagle

Could easily be 4-0, which is kind of mind blowing considering how we collectively felt about the team during the summer. I just hope the D keeps on, keeping on. Not taking a day off against the damn Chips again.

Did you say that right before the 3 long td passes that were successful?? Those previous successive runs are what set up those long td passes.

The play call wasn't a straight-up pass. Santa made a bad decision and forced a ball in coverage. He's young and that stuff happens with young quarterbacks. Get over yourself. NIU is good. Season isn't over by any means and I like our odds at taking another trip to Detroit
