Bottom line: If you're a fan, act like one and stick around and support these guys and let's be civilized with one another. I'm not a real big fan of Chad's banter with some people on here, but he clearly loves the Cats and does a good job covering them. This stuff just doesn't need to happen.

Bottom line: I’m a fan. My blood is blacker and redder than yours. I’m not really sure what the Bearcat Journal has to do with my post. I was just expressing my exasperation as a long time fan and donor (though I don’t have as many posts on a message board). I’ll leave you guys to it. Knock yourselves out.

But I do find it interesting how quickly everyone comes to the defense of anything related to BCL. But if it was Bill Koch, Lance, or the enquirer it's open season all year long.

Bill Koch was useless with the Enquirer, but now that's he's with GoBearcats and is forced to write special Bearcats content I think the stuff he's written is pretty decent.

You wouldn't know Lance was aware of UC Football unless you watched his twitter feed. He certainly makes no mention of it during his radio show, but his show is great if you want to hear six different angles about how terrible the Bengals, or who will start for the Reds now that they're 30 games under .500, or 15 minutes of him blabbering and repeating the phrase "Butler Math" over and over again. It must chap his ass to yield to a Mo Egger segment during his show on a daily basis and also see Mo have a one-hour show added during lunch time. Also, as expected, Lance's poll clearly showed that UC football was far and away the most popular CFB team in the area. It hasn't resulted in any coverage to my knowledge.

Mo Egger doesn't really bring up UC football, either. I'm sure 700WLW plans programming based upon media dollars, so I'm sure that's why it's wall-to-wall Reds and Bengals. But he's at least tolerable to listen to, and I know he likes the Bearcats.

Chad Brendel covers the Bearcats solely for a living and seems to do a decent enough job. Some people disagree with having to play to get information. I'd rather give my money to Chad than to the Enquirer or 700WLW, neither of which have done a good job.

So...no one should be expected to ask real questions of a coaching staff? There's no sarcasm or vitriol in my question. I'm just asking

I think it's great to politely ask Chad if he'll ask the question as he is well-positioned to do so.

I wasn't attacking you, but you posted on a thread where someone directed someone who spends his livelihood reporting on the Bearcats to "grow a pair" and ask a tough question. We should ask people to ask tough question - we shouldn't question someone's masculinity because they're also concerned about treating their sources (especially a head coach) with respect so they can continue to use them as a source.

If someone rolled into the post-game press conference, stood up, and yelled at Fick that "he needed to sack up and explain why Trail hasn't played", how do we think that would go? I don't foresee the AD giving that person any exclusives or useful information anytime soon.

The bottom line was directed at everyone. Just because we have a tough game doesn't mean we should rail off on others on our board. No one ought to be a part of the post that another AAC team links on their board to show that we're in meltdown mode.

I don't think you have any idea of where your support stacks up against mine, but I respect your support of the program and hope your support through the thick and thin.

Meltdown mode? Go read my other posts in the game thread right now. I don't blame Fickell for this disaster. I think he's the right guy for the job. I'm willing to give him plenty of time. I think UC football can be/will be much better than this.

However.... Trail should get a chance.

Yes, please. No excuse for Trail not playing, Moore is a dumpster fire.

Moore is one issue - but a bigger one is special teams. Last year we saw stupid again and again running out to the 15. Tonight the idiocy returned - capped off with a fumble.

Moore had no chance to bring us back when special teams were in a Bearcat destruction mode.

I give Fickle credit - Geddes was not on KR in the 2nd half. Perhaps a boulder cracked his thick skull to recognize Geddes was not working.

And while I am at it - once we went off tackle in the 2nd half there was some running room . Brilliance after there was nothing open up the middle.

And then - did Gantz commit some mortal sin of Bearcat football? I cannot believe Gantz is not a better place kicker than what we saw tonight.

Special teams killed us tonight.

Gantz is hurt. Wasn't dressed for the game. Our resident kicking guru thinks he's going take a long time to recover if ever.

Is there not a freshman kicker who did well in high school in Cincy. That position is a disaster.

I didn't see this posted anywhere. Didn't a few weeks ago Luke say they had an open competition between the two that week and that Gantz lost? It's not really a competition if one party can't compete.

For those interested? Mo asked the question on the WLW wrap-up post-game of why not Ross Trail? Dan Hoard and Jim agreed, especially with the game out of reach most of the 4th quarter.

I finally saw UC run misdirection in the backfield! It started with the opening drive of the 2nd half. The quarterback actually ran the ball as well a few times this evening. Why run a spread attack with the QB never a threat to run? My opinion.....Denbrock is no offensive guru!!!!!

Trail wasn't able to even throw a football for a month and just returned to practice last week. They are still in the process of getting him back to 100% and the reps needed to return to speed.

I did ask both Fickell and Korey Cunningham about the slow starts in the post game presser tonight...

I'm sure that post game presser was an interesting environment.

04-cheers

I'm looking forward to seeing this interview; CLF has a lot to answer for after tonight's spectacle.

And since this thread is aimed at me and the topic has been tossed around a bit about me and the tone I take with some I will simply say this. You want to take shots at me, whatever. You want to take shots at BCJ and what we do, I take it personal. I have spent over a decade busting my tail to help build the site, and I will defend it when attacked. If that rubs some the wrong way, sorry...

Thanks. I guess I just don't understand how that is not common knowledge amongst even hard core UC fans. I suppose it's because as I stated earlier In This thread that the old guard still working for th dying dinosaurs in this city simply don't care so they don't report that type of thing. Thus anyone who really cares must resort to paying for that type of info. Thanks for sharing.

If I cut my time covering UC in half, I still believe I'd spend more time than the "traditional" media working the beat. Find me for a beer some time and I'll rant for hours on this topic... 04-cheers

Nothing on my part at least is being specifically aimed at you. I addressed you specifically because the other guys with media credentialsthat actually post here(Tommy G covers FCC now and Dan Hoard doesn't engage in conversation here) don't converse with us common folk. It's simply amazing to me that the backup QB of an embattled offense JUST started throwing a football last week and none of us hard core fans knew that. I'm sure the most shocked among us would be Luke Fickell. Imagine what he came from. No detail of the OSU would ever go unreported. I would think if the qb1 was struggling it would be common knowledge amongst even average OSU fans that qb2 had just started practice a week ago. Luke Fickell must feel like he's in the twilight zone. I would think he would love for fans to know that UC qb2 just started practice thus he is not a viable option.

We've had our issues at times, but you've always come directly at me so it's all good.

I appreciate that you feel I am the person to go to for something like this even if it is something that I can't do directly for whatever reason. I try to be a conduit to the fans because I grew up one myself. While you get a bit removed from that in the media world, I will never shy away from the fact I pull for UC to do well. It's who I am...
