Other games weekend of September 30
Texas 17, Iowa State 7
Orlando's defense saves Mensa's offense. One question: Has anybody noticed how much the quarterback has become a run threat in Mensa's offense? Remember when he was here and there were complaints that we wouldn't let Clement run? Has Mensa changed that much, or was that coming from Bailiff?

Miami 31, Duke 6
Closer than the score indicates. Duke shows that a private school can play defense, but their offense is bad.

Nebraska 28, Illinois 6
Mike Riley keeps his job another week. Might be available as a successor to Bailiff, though, if he is not ready to retire.

Wazzu 30, Southern Cal 27
Alex Grinch just moved out of our price range.

Good for Leach. I like the guy. And it is nice to see a perennial losing team knock off a perennial winner (although USC has been down in recent years.)

And Utah St. beats BYU by 2 TD's. Most consider BYU a P5 program so good win by a mediocre G5 program.

At 1-4 it appears going independent isn't working out to well.

Stanford beats ASU 34-24. Bryce Love runs for 301 yards, becoming the 10th player in NCAA history to break the 1000 yard mark in five games, and he broke that mark midway through the third quarter. TV graphic shows that Rice was only his fourth best game this year.

They just announced at Kyle Field that there is no running water, so if you have to use the bathroom, you have to leave the stadium. We may not be very good in football this year, but as far as I know, we have superior water pressure at HRS.

Doubt that will deter most Aggies.

Ogeron was a head scratching choice.

Final 24-21 Troy. LSU's homecoming game.

Troy was paid $1 million for the bodybag game.

The David Bailiff of P5.

Except LSU won't allow it to drag out 11years and have a 58-76 record.

Slight correction: LSU's heavy hitters among their alumni won't allow it to drag out.

Our equivalents are apparently happy with Bailiff.

Rice is @LSU next year. Wonder what the score would have been if Rice had been @LSU today? 50-3 LSU victory?

RE: Other games weekend of September 30
The biggest issue is that we have an athletic director who has run the football program into the ground...today's recruits barely remember our last bowl game, much less our conference championship. Yet somehow our D3 athletic director has determined that the wisest move is to retain Bailiff, for whatever asinine reason.

I predict one of the 2 schools will have a new coach for the 2018 Rice vs. LSU game.

Any guesses as to which one?

Like all of you, I am many things. Among others, I am an LSU fan. I went to high school in Baton Rouge, my dad taught at LSU, my three siblings have degrees from LSU; two of them have multiple LSU degrees. As an LSU fan, I was completely mystified by the hiring of Ogeron.

It was certainly strange - if we cannot get Tom Hermann, the hottest prospect on the market, we will settle for a coach whom Ole Miss fired after a dismal tenure which including losing more games than he won. I believe he had only two wins against teams with winning records, both wins against Memphis. Not an enviable record.

I am not against second chances. People deserve them. But after his track record, one would have expected his second chance to come from a G5 or lower level P5 school (a la Kiffin and Strong), not from one of the premier coaching jobs in the country.

I don't know how he did as an assistant; I assume he did well. But I learned in the military that there is a HUGE difference between being #2 or one of many, and being the leader, the place where the buck stops.

One of the reasons I have been anti DB is not so much the record but the dismal level of play. I see the same with Ogeron. Beating BYU (1-4) was not such a big deal. LSU was throttled by Miss State, which in retrospect is not a great team; and LSU sleepwalked against a Syracuse team which lost to Middle Tenn. The warning signs are everywhere. Generally I advocate giving someone several years to prove himself, but with his poor performance at Ole Miss, the questions of his hiring, and the dismal play so far, I hope for the sake of their fans' sanity LSU gets a new coach, a good coach, soon.
