Final 24-21 Troy. LSU's homecoming game.
Troy was paid $1 million for the bodybag game.
Rice is @LSU next year. Wonder what the score would have been if Rice had been @LSU today? 50-3 LSU victory?
I predict one of the 2 schools will have a new coach for the 2018 Rice vs. LSU game.
Any guesses as to which one?
Like all of you, I am many things. Among others, I am an LSU fan. I went to high school in Baton Rouge, my dad taught at LSU, my three siblings have degrees from LSU; two of them have multiple LSU degrees. As an LSU fan, I was completely mystified by the hiring of Ogeron.
It was certainly strange - if we cannot get Tom Hermann, the hottest prospect on the market, we will settle for a coach whom Ole Miss fired after a dismal tenure which including losing more games than he won. I believe he had only two wins against teams with winning records, both wins against Memphis. Not an enviable record.
I am not against second chances. People deserve them. But after his track record, one would have expected his second chance to come from a G5 or lower level P5 school (a la Kiffin and Strong), not from one of the premier coaching jobs in the country.
I don't know how he did as an assistant; I assume he did well. But I learned in the military that there is a HUGE difference between being #2 or one of many, and being the leader, the place where the buck stops.
One of the reasons I have been anti DB is not so much the record but the dismal level of play. I see the same with Ogeron. Beating BYU (1-4) was not such a big deal. LSU was throttled by Miss State, which in retrospect is not a great team; and LSU sleepwalked against a Syracuse team which lost to Middle Tenn. The warning signs are everywhere. Generally I advocate giving someone several years to prove himself, but with his poor performance at Ole Miss, the questions of his hiring, and the dismal play so far, I hope for the sake of their fans' sanity LSU gets a new coach, a good coach, soon.
