FBI Arrests Several NCAA Coaches in Crackdown On College Basketball Corruption
Never good when the Feds arrest you, they almost always convict the accused. Also never good when college hoops is a lead story on the business web sites. Bribery and kickbacks, news conference at noon Eastern: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-09-26...corruption

"In a broad crackdown on college basketball corruption, U.S. prosecutors unveiled charges Tuesday against 10 coaches, managers, financial advisers and representatives of a sportswear company, accusing them of bribery, fraud and corruption in recruitment in college basketball. Federal prosecutors in Manhattan said they will announce the charges against the defendants at a noon news conference."

Here are the 4 assistant coaches who will be arrested. Anybody shocked that Auburn and Oklahoma State are the first two schools involved?

Per federal indictments, case included undercover FBI agents, plus enormous other resources. Lot of nervous coaches right now.

One of the reasons why we hired him; we know Tubby won't be anywhere near anything like that.

Lamont Evans is a great recruiter. He helped build Frank Martin's team at USC. Chuck Person has been with Sexhog since 2014.

I was thinking the same thing, Stammers. Despite his faults, at least he won't have assistant coaches get arrested by the freaking FBI.

College basketball is so dirty, sometimes wonder why I still care. One of the reasons a lot of us have turned more to the NBA now.

We can start "playing the game" when we get into a big time league. Until then straight and narrow.

Reading between lines not so hard: this details how Louisville got commitment from All-American Brian Bowen in June -- for $100K:

I couldn't cut-and-paste the charge, but it details how 'University-6', which apparently is Louisville, funneled money to the family of Brian Bowen, 4 installments totaling $100,000.00.

Guess the shoe company is Adidas?

It's Adidas: http://www.businessinsider.com/college-b...sts-2017-9

"Jim Gatto, director of global sports marketing for basketball at Adidas, was also named as a defendant. According to the complaint, Gatto allegedly conspired with coaches to pay high school athletes to play at universities sponsored by Adidas (referred to as "Company 1" in the case).

The investigation, which was been in progress since 2015, has been led by the FBI and the US Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York.

Gatto and four other defendants have been charged with "making and concealing bribe payments" to high school student athletes and/or their families."

Auburn? Didn't some of you folks want their coach here rather than Tubby?

From the Courier-Journal on August 25th. Louisville just signed their Adidas deal last month, 4th biggest deal among all college programs: http://www.courier-journal.com/story/spo...600528001/

"Louisville athletics director Tom Jurich revealed a new sponsorship deal with Adidas on Thursday evening, and the agreement moves the university higher up the list of the most lucrative sponsorships in college sports.

The new contract extension is worth $160 million over 10 years. Where does that rank among major college athletics programs?"

Love it when news breaks, and reporters quickly find all the phony BS the coaches said:

Replying to @AndrewDasNYT

"We got lucky on this one," Pitino told News Radio 840. "I had an AAU director call me and ask if I'd be interested in a player (Bowen). I saw him against another great player from Indiana. I said 'Yeah, I'd be really interested.' They had to come in unofficially, pay for their own hotel, pay for their meals. We spent zero dollars recruiting a five-star athlete who I loved when I saw him play. In my 40 years this is the luckiest I've been."

The jokes kind of write themselves, don't they?

Pitino needs to resign today.

My guess is that many coaches at Adidas schools are avoiding calls from the press and hiring attorneys about now.

Remember how odd it was that Antwann Jones committed without taking official visits?

Jonah Jordan‏ @_JonahJordan 9m9 minutes ago

Lamont Evans, one of those arrested, was the primary on Ayo Dosunmu and may have been on Antwann Jones. Was associate head coach at OK State

Feel free to jump in on a thread on the ACC board. I started it after the hooker scandal. The search feature on this board is great! Thanks mods!

Dohrmann is the Editor of The Athletic, wrote a book on hoops recruiting:

George Dohrmann ‏Verified account @georgedohrmann 49m49 minutes ago

For decades, people (myself included) have tried to tell you how players are procured in college hoops. The FBI is going to tell you in full

Fans are about to find out the difference between an "investigation" led by ex-NCAA folks hired by a school and a REAL investigation.
