I guess the ideal situation, SDSU wins a squeaker and Chapman suffers just a very mild high ankle sprain that keeps him out 2 to 3 weeks. I hope its not wrong to think like that!

NIU needs to worry about NIU. Just hope we have a game plan to utilize the strengths of Huff and Santa. Our defense will keep us in the game but offense needs to do its part. If the offense can produce consistently, and the defense can continue to make plays, we have a great chance to win this game. If we play the game not to lose we will probably lose... Give Santa opportunities to go deep when SDSU is worried about stopping Huff. The two go hand in hand. The deep passes will make room for Huff. When Huff gets going run play action for a big play oppotunities.

Badmoon, I think I agree with your premise (scary); although your adamant (obnoxious) support of Santa/Huff makes it difficult. Against Neb, the coaches coached to the situation (14 point lead with your D playing lights out); they went conservative and for good reason. One can argue that a healthy Graham could have done everything Santa did for 3 quarters, and done it perhaps better. Childers running ability, given our conservative game could have been used more. With that being said, Santa adapted to this strategy as well as can be expected, making good decisions even though he was not very sharp with his passsing for much of the game. What I truly believe is that of the QBs we have seen, only Santa makes the plays necessary to win Saturday's game once we lost the lead. He threw 2 dimes in pressure situations. The second pass to Blake was a Sunday throw; and yes, the ability to throw the ball deep significantly benefits the running game. Let's get and keep all of our QBs healthy, and continue to improve. We are in a good place right now; few people believed this would be the case after 3 games. SDSU will be another huge challenge (opportunity).

Keep in mind Santa is only a sophomore and therefore has lots of time to improve. By no means do I think he is chandler harnish but harnish was only so-so his sophomore year. My hopes is that now that he's the presumable go to qb, his game experience will get him better and better

Sorry for supporting the guys who are the best players on offense and actually lead us to VICTORIES...
Hopefully, they're not benched for absolutely no reason.

RE: SDSU Game Sept 30th
Keys to this game are fairly simple.
1. The D shows up to play like they have all year.
2. no offensive turnovers (or special teams). Make smart passing decisions.
3. field goals are a must. we have to score ever time we get inside the 25 yard line.
4. No penalties
If these 4 things happen, we have a shot of winning at SDSU.

Truly, a majority of our success is going to fall on Santa's shoulders. He is only a red shirt soph., so lets give him a little break. He played a decent game last week and didn't really turn the ball over.

The 2 undersized DE we have are playing lights out football. Smith is a monster. Cant wait to see how he develops over the next 2 years.

It's a long shot, especially with his concussion history (He's had a few, has he not?)

Carey said his shoulder will likely take longer than recovering from the concussion though you never know with concussions.

Id wait to bring him back for the beginning of conference play, SDSU may not be a winnable game anyway.

NIU would have to take a 180 degree different approach on offense to be competitive, I guess that's possible, but given recent coaching staff track record tough to be that hopeful when it comes to offense.

Solid post despite point #4. No penalties really isn't realistic. LIMIT penalties ! 04-cheers

Wow...You may want to go back and reread my post; I didn't say that at all, and I was actually agreeing with you. What I was saying is our conservative mode we adopted after going up by 14, did not play to Santa's strengths, and would have suited Graham better. I think that has been the point you have been making.

I think in part you guys are making a good point, if NIU does not use offensive possessions to try and score, it really does not matter who the QB is. Must value offense going forward. That's kind of what I was getting at with the whole "QB competition". If QB skills are not valued, how do you evaluate a QB, it really doesn't matter who you pick if the skills of a QB are not deemed important.

LOL, who in their right mind would think Graham would have done anything better than Santa? Why would you even imply someone would think that if that's not what you believed... 03-lmfao

Luckily, Carey rolled the dice once to help us win the game. Fortunately, Santa put the odds on our favor. Hopefully he'll choose to roll the dice a few more times to give us the best chance to win against SDSU. Roll the dice, coach. Grow some balls.

Luckily, Carey rolled the dice once to help us win the game. Fortunately, Santa put the odds on our favor. Hopefully he'll choose to roll the dice a few more times to give us the best chance to win against SDSU. Roll the dice, coach. Grow some balls.

He had little choice at that point, as we were losing for the first time in the game. Can you imagine if Santa had those wide open WRs deep against BC? 03-hissyfit

RE: SDSU Game Sept 30th
I thought he would still stay conservative so we didn't get blown out... We really did have a lot of receivers running open against BC. No Santa and five carries for Huff!!!!

Well remember, Huff once missed a block 3 years ago. So there you go.

As a fan, will gladly take a spanking from SDSU, just don't want to feel the way I did after the Ohio State and two BC games in that those games were there for the taking if a sense of urgency was shown. If you are going to lose, go down with all your bullets used up
