Houston was favored by a point, so it's not really laughable, but it is technically G5 over P5

Another so-called impossible, miracle comeback that is so impossible that it happens every week, lol.

In February, the super bowl, last week UCLA, now Wazzoo. Football's current rules make this to be expected, not a miracle.

Heck, in all three games, the comeback team didn't even need to attempt an onside kick! In the old days, if you were down 10+ points in the 4th quarter, it was a given that if you were to somehow win or tie, you would need to convert an onside kick. But neither the Patriots, UCLA, or Wazzoo even needed to try one, all either tied or took the lead with over a minute left in regulation.

Nothing to see here, really.

I wouldn't use the word "impossible" but definitely "improbable" in this case. When it was 31-10 Wazzu looked dead in the water. Starting QB got knocked out, the first series with the second string went the wrong way (stupid play that got intercepted). But after he settled down he led a comeback. Wazzu had two defensive scores in the game too, but it doesn't matter how you outscore the other team!

Houston has been more relevant than Arizona in football lately, so that's not laughable at all.

Yes, I've been watching football for 45 years but had yet to see "3rd and 93" before. 03-lmfao

That's very close to a setup for the mythical 1-point defensive safety: Offensive team goes for an extra point, defense recovers and returns for what would be a two-point defensive safety, loses the ball near the end zone, offensive player recovers but then runs into the end zone and gets tackled or loses the ball through the end zone. It's theoretical but to the best of my knowledge has never occurred.

FCS and G5 programs have had a heck of a start to the season. The game that has not got much attention and while not a win for the G5 WMU went toe to toe with #4 ranked USC last week, score was tied halfway through the 4th quarter in Los Angeles. Coupled with EMU"s win over Rutgers and CMU's win over Kansas and the MAC West is shaping up to be a great divisin. Ball State in week 1 lost to Illinois by only 3 on the road also

Those are one-point safeties scored by the offense, which are exceedingly rare but as you show, have happened at least twice in Division 1. I mean one-point safeties scored by the defense, where the team defending retrieves the ball on a PAT attempt, bring it nearly all the way back for a two-point conversion return, loses possession of the ball to the offensive team, but the offensive player either runs into the end zone and gets tackled or fumbles the ball out of the end zone, which would result in one point for the defense.

It is the only way an American football team can have just one point on the scoreboard, I believe.

And the amazing thing about this extremely rare occurrence? Brad Nessler was in the booth doing the TV PxP for both games.

what's the new rule which makes these comebacks more likely?

I don't think it's any one rule. Heck, we almost saw it again last night. With just 10 minutes to go, the Broncos led the Chargers by 17 points. The game ended with the Chargers missing a very makeable FG, 43 yards, that would have tied it. Heck, he actually did make it, but the Broncs called one of those last second TOs and it didn't count. The next one was blocked. A 17 point lead erased in less than 10 minutes.

It's just the nature of the game these days.

This is done from a NFL perspective, but the 6-1 final score is the darkest of the dark art of scorigami:

Leave it to the guy behind The Tim Tebow Chronicles and 17776 to delve into the possibilities of 6-1. I have to watch this.

Beating Rutgers and Kansas is not exactly big time, especially Kansas. Beating James Madison is more impressive than either. Time will tell, though I think Western should be back another year.
