Is 9/11 Still a Conspiracy?
In honor of 9/11, I showed my students a documentary of 9/11 with time to discuss. I was amazed how little they knew about the event. All of them knew what had happened but with only minor details. Which led me to ask the question. Is 9/11 still a controversy?

Does anyone still believe that our government did not tell us the whole story?

Saw an article today. Author was saying there was a huge generational divide among the millennials between those who remembered 911 and those who really didn't.

Did they not tell us the whole story? Almost certainly. Does that make it a conspiracy? no.

I was surprised that my son said they didn't talk about 9/11 at school yesterday.

(Though I understand at some point it has to become a discretionary discussion.)

I actually got very pissed at one of my kids yesterday. Kid #1 had a cooking accident (microwaved an egg) and kids #2 shouts "The Great egg explosion of 9/11".

I had to dress her down for making light of the event...

I'm not talking the crazy but more like who helped finance it and stuff like that.

Fit's students are not millenials. Millenials were born between 1981 and 1997. Those at the end won't remember, but most will. I was born in 1979, borderline Gen X, and I was 22 with a job and my own apartment during 9/11 while about half of those in college were millenials. They remember it well.

You are correct.

My oldest student right now was born in 98 and he doesn't remember it so everyone I talked to only has been told about it.

One of the more interesting questions I got was how did OBL do that if he lived in a cave? LOL

Still not necessarily a conspiracy. Most of Al Quaeda's funding came from the Saudis in the form of extortion payments. That does not mean the Saudi royal family support the mission. Obama gave Iran $160B. That doesn't mean he supports their throwing gays off buildings. The Romans funded the goths for a century so they wouldn't attack them. That does not mean they supported the eventual mission to overthrow Rome. Refrain from oversimplification.

RE: Is 9/11 Still a Conspiracy?
Our schools were closed yesterday and today due to hurricane. It will be interesting if SCD Jr's Social Studies class will have any discussion....

I do know that there is generally no discussion of US history discussed our taught unless it is in the curriculum.

I know that I gave a presentation to the Fifth grade about the Battle of Iwo Jima last February.
Had five other teachers attend outside of the fifth grade.

Unfortunately, the school principal had no idea of Iwo Jima nor the significance.... I have zero respect for that stupid female! And she's an "educator"!!!

Okay so maybe conspiracy isn't the proper word. Perhaps I should have asked, Is there still unanswered questions?

For example, my kids quickly asked why building seven fell but 3-6 stayed in tact.

Well his people were trained in Florida and you can buy box cutters at Dollar Tree. Furthermore, commercial travel plans and information could and still can be found on the open source. Really wasn't all that sophisticated or expensive, just poor security at the time.

RE: Is 9/11 Still a Conspiracy?
My wife and I had a similar discussion about this yesterday since we have 2 little kids. To us, 9/11 will always invoke memories and emotions that take us back to where we were on that day when we found out, but it will just be a part of history to our children. It'll be something that they maybe learn about in school or see a documentary about, but it won't have the same meaning that it does for our generation.

I guess hindsight is 20/20 and these kids growing up in an increasingly paranoid society cannot fathom how we didn't see it coming.

I mean you should see their disbelief when I told them these guys learned how to fly in the United States. You can see why they quickly believe that someone other than OBL was involved.

RE: Is 9/11 Still a Conspiracy?
The 9/11 doc I watched last night really took me back. It was chilling, nauseating, disturbing, and yet made me very proud to be American. My kids are 15, 12 and 10. I'm not sure I'd want the 10 year old to watch it yet but I plan on recording it for the older two to see.

Inside 9/11 probably, I watched it too.

The part where the guy is talking about the fireman he locked eyes with knowing exactly where he was going (certain death) and not missing a G-D step is powerful stuff.

I wasn't referring to Fit's students. I was referring to the same thought with respect to millennials.
