RE: Some off the field game day observations
I made it to the BC game a couple Fridays ago. I was surprised to see the beer sales on the West Side. When did that start?

Not only are there beer sales, but they also sell vodka lemonades. Very colorful and served in unique plastic glasses.

Good stuff as usual HuskieJohn, couple comments:

"That being said, the sections to the sides and just above of the premium seats are relatively packed. Those are non-donor seats but full priced seats. The cheap discounted ticket areas are not as full so this is telling me that NIU fans a willing to pay a little more for a better seat but not donate at all or enough to get a chairback or benchback for their season ticket order."

I think you're right on this, I've continued to get badgered by athletics about upgrading or trying the seats, but I'm right next to them with the exact same view almost, why pay an extra 100 or whatever PER ticket, it's not a cheap increase. I'd probably pay the extra, but the others I get tickets with wouldn't see the benefit. I also have 6 seats and tough to get them together in those seats.

I was fine with the music, but I'm not as old as some of you old wrinkled dawgs. :)

They looked pretty good - I was tempted to get one. I'm sure they're quite expensive though, and probably without much alcohol.

In general, the beer is just a bit too expensive for me to justify. Coors light is just piss water to me, if it was something decent for $8 i'd be much more inclined. I do appreciate that they have that available. I did buy a Mike's hard lemonade the previous game.

And, what is this with the fear of a few seconds of quiet while the game is going on? Between plays and until the ball is snapped, the DJ blasts what he calls music. I'd much rather hear the HMB, who are the one of the best parts of game day.
Serious question...does anyone enjoy MOST of the music being played in the stadium during the game (not talking about HMB).
...I dont.
IMO for SATURDAY games the only time from kickoff until the end of the game that music should be played on the PA is when HMB is leaving the stands to go do the half time show and when they are finished with the half time show until kickoff of the 2nd half.

Based on last year and game one, I must add my agreement to the thoughts expressed above.
And in regard to dekalb222's post, I totally disagree that "louder is better." Much of the "loud" atmosphere that will be heard at Nebraska will come from the fans, not some DJ. When you say the problem with NIU's attendance is the fan base is old, then maybe it's time to cater to those folks before you lose them. You yourself note that some may not attend. Saying we need more late 20's-40's fans is nice, but apparently that DJ isn't bringing them in.

At Nebraska just like big time programs and professional sports the Jumbotron will be big and loud! To grow your fan base you need younger people. People my age and older are needed but we are not the future of NIU Athletics. I'm not saying we're bad or not needed because we are old. I'm saying we need more young people(young alums)

I just made a huge investment in audiology clinics and hearing aid companies. I'll be wealthy, but no discount for you - even on our new Huskie logo hearing aid.

The issue is the speakers are on one side of the endzone...so on the South side its too loud and on the North side it seem to be not loud enough.

Agreed. Was at a Bears preseason game a few weeks ago and the speakers surround the stadium making the sound great but not too loud. All we need in lots of money to fix this.

I sit on the 50 higher up and it's too loud. Actually, I could take it just fine if there weren't crap blaring from the speakers seemingly all the time. I've gotten to the point of hoping plays take longer so there's less noise blaring. It's noise, as I sure can't call it music.

It would help if we offered a Young Alum +1 season ticket and Young Alum individual ticket offered on a consistent basis.

As I have said several times in 6 seasons as a student I missed 1 home game (because of a girlfriend emergency). After graduation the next season I could only afford to buy 1 set of tickets and I went to a second game because the Alum Association was giving out free tickets. After that I decided I couldn't spend $50 for tickets + food on a day when I was making little money and having to pay the bills. Fortunately seasons later when I was not struggling the 2010 season happened so I came back for the Toledo game and was again hooked. If not for the success of that or the next few seasons I may have never come back.

IMO Athletics in partnership with the Alum Association should offer Young Alums at least 4 seasons of discounted season and individual tickets after graduating.

This year East side Young Alum season ticket would be half price of the public, so $30.

Young Alum Individual tickets would be the cost of a student guest ticket $15

2 seasons ago just outside the stadium but inside the gates. Selling inside the stadium just started this year.

There may or may not be value in it for your group...

6 Benchback seats X $100per seat donation = $600

With that your group would also get...
2 tailgating parking passes in the Stevenson Paved OR Movie Lot. ($25 fee for each pass)
AND
6 passes to the Endzone Club.

6 Chairback seats X $150per seat donation = $900

With that your group would also get...
3 tailgating parking passes in the Stevenson Paved OR Movie Lot. ($25 fee for each pass)
OR
For $100 additional donation you could get 2 tailgating parking passes in the Stevenson Grass lot. ($25 fee for each pass)

AND
6 passes to the Endzone Club.

Maybe I missed that. Only by request? I guess I assume as a season ticket holder, if that is part of the package, I shouldn't need to ask for them.

Yeah, since we already have a tailgating spot taken care of, doesn't make a ton of sense. Until I get old and need a back to my seat and music that's not as loud.
