Looks like Fedora still doesn't know anything about defense
Ahh...I remember those days of scoring 35+ points and still losing. It's year 6 for Fedora at UNC and he still doesn't know a darn thing about defense...it'll take it's toll on UNC higher-ups and potentially get him canned one day.

This was against the #14 team in the country who has a very high powered offense...good grief. I'd still take Fedora over any of our last 3 coaches any day of the week and twice on Sunday. He fired up our fan base and did things we hadn't done in a LOOOOONGGGG time. Those were an awesome four years. Hasn't been the same since, not even f'n close.

RE: Looks like Fedora still doesn't know anything about defense
The criticism of NC's defense is deserved, but come on. Fedora is currently 40-27 as UNC's head coach, 2nd (by tenths of a percentage) only to Mack Brown over their last 6 coaches spanning 20 years. At a program that last won a conference championship in 1980, he's got a division title and a Top 15 finish under his belt. He'll have to go full Ellis a couple years running before anyone meaningful starts calling for his head.

Eh, Fedora had an awesome one year. I remember the first three were far from awesome and most people were very frustrated.

UNC was also under a severe probation for his first 3-4 years. There are some still butt hurt about Bower just can't let it go.

We'd all trade a body part for one awesome year right about now.
Beyond that, though, when Fedora was here, you could count the double-digit losses on one hand, maybe even with fingers left over. There were also a couple of improbable come-from-behind wins. There's a LOT to be said for always thinking you have a chance to win. It made each Saturday immensely entertaining. Under Bower, you may as well have gone home if we got behind by 10. Under Johnson and often under Monken as he picked up the pieces, you knew we were f***ed even before kickoff. Hopson's teams have been a bag of schizophrenia so far.

2011 was awesome, but even that team underachieved. Remember that Fedora was bringing in low-mid level BCS/P5 talent. We should have gone undefeated that year. Period. No excuse to lose to UAB in front of 46 people or to a mediocre Marshall team.

Off the top of my head: Auburn 2008, Boise 2008, UAB 2009 (believe they scored a late TD to make it look worse than it was, would need to check box score), MTSU 2009, South Carolina 2010.
Don't remember too many come from behind wins under Fedora. Only one that comes to mind was UCF 2010. Got down 14-0 early but scored 31 unanswered and ended up winning 31-21. Tulane had played us tough the week before and UAB hung 50 on us (in Hattiesburg) the week before that, so I was expecting a beatdown early on. Could throw the 2008 NOLA Bowl in there too.
EDIT: Forgot UVA in 2009. Freddie Parham's KR TD sparked a 17 point comeback at The Rock.

UNC lost their first game to Cal 35-30 (at home). The point of this post was not that Fedora is a bad coach but that historically his defenses give up a crap ton of points. Can't tell you how many games we lost when we scored a bunch. A few that come to mind:
56-50 loss @ Tulsa
49-50 loss vs. UAB
43-44 loss vs. ECU
43-50 loss @ Houston
40-45 loss @ Rice
37-40 loss vs. UTEP
His UNC losses when he's scored a bunch:
35-47 loss vs. Louisville
30-35 loss vs. Cal
38-49 loss vs. Baylor
37-45 loss vs. Clemson
43-50 loss vs. Notre Dame
35-50 loss vs. Clemson
41-70 loss vs. ECU ( )
31-55 loss vs. ECU
50-68 loss vs. GaTech
30-33 loss vs. Duke
34-39 loss vs. Louisville
Again, defense is not Fedora's forte. If he cared about defense as much as he cared about offense then they'd be in the CFB playoffs every year.

I liked Fedora and he was no doubt what our program needed at that time. I'll always root for him. That being said, i'd rather have Monken back between the two of them. I loved that dude and his say whatever's on my mind attitude. I would loved to have seen what another three years of him being here would have done for our program.

Agree. I think Monken could've done much more than what Fedora did if he was hired instead of Fedora. Didn't we interview Monken in late '07 after the Bham bowl vs. Cincy? (Bower's last game)

He would've done better than 12-2 and a national ranking?

"Off the top of your head." Umm-hmm.
But yes, there aren't any fingers left over on that one hand over a 4-year span. As a point of comparison to another coach not named Ellis Johnson and who didn't inherit a train wreck, Hopson had 4 double-digit losses last year.

RE: Looks like Fedora still doesn't know anything about defense
It was off the top of my head.
I can remember pretty much everything USM football (most basketball/baseball too) related from 2004 (when I started following the program) to present. I usually look at old box scores and schedules during the summer if there was some stuff I may have forgot.

I respectfully disagree. Fedora was a damn fireball. Just a different type of person. The last time we won CUSA was when he was coach. Not **** since.

Could be wrong but believe TTT was referring to the whole body of work not just one season. 12-2 season was special however it also had its bumps. Freaking Marshall and UAB?!? Fedora is an offsense genious but needs to put some emphasis on defense

Of course, if UNC cared about defense as much as offense, they wouldn't have pulled that truckload of money up to Fedora's house.
