It hurts our team, as it creates a situation where us and a division rival can each have 1 conference loss, and we would lose the division even if we won head to head.

Nevertheless, football isn't the important thing here, and i totally trust our admins, who are on the ground and have all the facts, so I support the decision.

It would be one thing if the game was in Florida buts 2,000 miles away. Do i get to not show up to work this weekend because my uncle lives in Florida and will be affected? Does my dad not have to show up to court because his brother lives in Florida and will be affected by the hurricane?

While we're at it why doesn't have of college football cancel their games since they have team members with family in Florida?

I mean come on the hurricane is going to hit either way and cancelling a game changes nothing except to hurt the schools. It literally does more harm than good. Where does it end?

Great points and I agree with you

Good. Some things are more important. Asking these guys to play a game at the same time that their families and homes are being hit by a Category 4/5 hurricane is a bit much.

And I think the game should be played. The game is 2000 miles away from the storm. Its the safest place to be. The AAC should have a contingency fund to pay for accommodations for coaches and players wives and kids to get to Connecticut, and then to stay several more days as needed.

What is the alternative? You ride out the storm in Tampa? How is that better? You evacuate somewhere else?

Maybe I'm missing something, but don't come at me with "players have more important things to worry about." Players always have more important things to worry about. Tulane played an entire season on the road after Katrina when the school shut down. I bet you they had a lot more things to worry about. I bet Houston players and coaches have a lot to worry about this weekend but they're still going to Arizona. Again, treat the game as an evacuation. It seemed like this WAS the plan until Miami canceled a road game yesterday and provided a precedent for this. I think a bigger issue is that they don't want their week thrown off with travel delays right before a Friday game with Illinois next week that might determine whether or not they go to the Peach Bowl. And I understand that, but let's not act like this is some kind of unplayable game for safety reasons and it's so gauche of us to scrutinize these decisions.

Bad analogy. Houston at UTSA was cancelled, despite the Alamodome in San Antonio being high and dry.

RE: USF @ UConn cancelled
Every community has to figure out how to respond for themselves. When Category 4 Hurricane Floyd devastated Greenville in 1999, killing 51 people in North Carolina alone, the ECU football team barely made it out of town before flood waters cut off all highway access. They went to Columbia, SC where they beat the Gamecocks 21-3. USC graciously let the Pirates stay in Columbia and use their facilities to practice for ECU's next game against Miami. The game had to be moved from Greenville to Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh (thank you Wolfpack), where the Pirates staged a 3rd and 4th quarter comeback from 20 points down to beat the #9 Hurricanes (sorry about the goalposts the fans tried to carry back to Greenville) with future NFL quarterback David Garrard. Twenty-two players came back to find they had been flooded out.

The Pirates also defeated West Virginia, Duke, Army, Tulane, Houston, Cincinnati, and NC State that year. They were a source of pride for a suffering community and gave everyone a huge lift.

Sorry for any gratuitous glamorizing of ECU's past, but for those who were there, this is how we remember it.

I agree with all the agreers. Get the wimps out of football. Does anybody care that Oregon and Montana are on fire? No. They are going to play games anyway.

Going 7-1 would've put South Florida at .875 whereas 6-1 puts them at .857. That's a huge difference.

So if USF loses on conference game----a division mate could potentially lose to USF, and go otherwise undefeated in conference---and would walk away as the division winner (despite losing the head to head to USF). Potentially, that could be huge.

Couldn't they play on Dec. 2, along with Houston and Utsa and push the Championship game to Thurs, Dec 14 or Fri, Dec 15? That would allow Navy to play in it if they win the Conference as well. Also before the Bowl games that would take our two reps to the Champ game. Just asking.

So going by this logic the judge requiring my dad to go to court while his brother is being hit by a hurricane is a bit much and my dad should be allowed to skip going?

They probably cant because of tv contract issues. But it would make sense.

I think they should play the game, but what do I know? I could be wrong, but wouldn't most of the players want to play this game?

Also, if the argument is about players having their homes destroyed... nearly every team in college football has players from Florida. Cincinnati has 13 on their roster, including multiple guys from the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. I mean, it sucks, and I'm not trying to found unsympathetic... but there are going to be a lot of college football players with their minds on Florida. I just don't get it.

A quick "CTL-F" search of other AAC rosters reveals that Cincinnati, Navy, Tulane, Temple, and East Carolina all have double-digit Florida players on their rosters.

Thats why its stupid to cancel this game. Like i said earlier if your going to cancel the football game for family reasons then half of college should be canceling their games!

I don't live in Florida and I'm not privy to the discussions leading up to the decision, so I am not going to trash the officials who made it. I'm just saying that from what I know (which isn't much), I disagree with it.

I honestly think usf was afraid of losing so they saw the perfect excuse to avoid it by canceling the game.

I just evacuated from Miami to Atlanta on Thursday it took me 7 hours to get to Orlando a trip you can do in 3.5 hours normally, 6 hours from Orlando to Gainesville normally a two hour trip and 23 hours to get to Atlanta the entire trip the highways and sideways were gridlock and at least 45 minutes to an hour to get gas. Now we expect the entire state to feel hurricane winds and you are talking about USF scared to play UConn. Shut the hell up man that's one dumbest comments I heard on this board. People are going to die in this storm and we don't know if we will have homes to get to

Multiple people are going to die. Thousands will have homes destroyed. And y'all are worried about whether a football game will be played. What is wrong with some of your heads. By the way the latest track has this thing going right through Florida like a buzzsaw. Utter destruction possible.
