Terrible writing. Just bad bad bad bad

It was actually closer to a day, since Thoros died of exposure overnight (RIP Red Priest). But the overall point is still valid. The show has switched from writing being the strength (when they had the books to reference) to the visuals (now that HBO can throw gobs of money at it). Not saying that it is necessarily a bad thing, in fact I believe it is a necessary evil to wrap things up nicely, but this week was probably the most egregious example of the lazy writing.

First off, Littlefinger seemed to super easily drive a wedge between Sansa and Arya. I get that they were not close as kids, but come on; it can't be THAT easy can it? Also, their brother can LITERALLY SEE EVERYTHING, so why don't they, I don't know, ask him what the hell is going on? I find Arya to be very arrogant and irritating this season. I kind of want Jaqen to kill her because "a girl has given the gift too many times, for reasons that are unjust," or something like that. She has really missed the point that killing for revenge/fun has to have some sort of consequence (besides camping with Ed Sheeran).
Second, what is going on with the Brotherhood of Bad Ideas. How do you not plan a better exit strategy? How do you not wait until you have a few weapons made of dragonglass/obsidian? How do you not have any ranged weapons? Jon should know better because he's fought them before! Twice I think!
Third, and this drove me up the Wall.... WHERE DO THE UNDEAD GET A GIANT F#&$ING CHAIN TO RAISE A DRAGON FROM THE FROZEN DEPTHS? I mean, did they make it? Because that process takes fire, which is their major (only?) weakness. Did they just find the chains lying around? It would make more sense if the chain was made of ice, since they can manipulate ice at will (or at least, they should), but a metal chain? Did Cersei sell that off after the Battle of Blackwater Bay to help pay for Joff's wedding (shame they couldn't get their deposit back)? And why the hell isn't the Night King in the freaking Olympics after that javelin toss?

I described this episode to my cousin as a bevy of blunders and bad decisions. Both by the characters and the writers. I don't mind the pacing; I understand why they have to do it. But... yeah, this didn't hit Hardhome with me.

- I think the Littlefinger / Sansa / Arya saga has more going on than we've been shown. I wouldn't be surprised if we get some kind of flashback to a plot between the sisters to get rid of Littlefinger.

- Definitely don't disagree about the whole going beyond the wall to get a wight plan. Just...stupid. Made for cool action, but it was contrived to make a cool scene and to get us an ice dragon. I'm not mad about it, but it does feel a little lazy.

- Had the same thought about the magical appearance of the chain, initially. However, in the background there was an old shipwreck, so the dead used the anchor chains from the shipwreck to pull up the dragon.

- The Night King can raise the dead and control them, his ice javelin skills being on point doesn't really bother me.

I can see why people found NK's arm strength and accuracy at range jarring, but it isn't as if we've never seen a WW pull off a feat of strength. The enforcer one sent into the hut at Hardhome was throwing Jon around and beating the crap out of him initially. That same one also proved that WW don't necessarily fear fire and their passive aura appears to extinguish it.

Since NK is the original WW, I'm not all that surprised that his powers are at the level of a demi-god

Please explain this about the others (WW's) from the books:
One of the first Lord Commander's of the Night's Watch was a Stark who declared himself King and married an Ice Woman.--who was that woman? I've never understood that.

I agree about Arya being painted as arrogant this season. Unless it's a ruse to draw out Littlefinger but she's almost like a villain in a bad episode of Scooby Doo that tells the gang how she did it before getting caught. Maybe the intent is to show how much her character has grown and transformed into a soldier like Ned as she wanted to be as a child and how she has achieved her goals unlike Sansa who wanted a comfortable life as a queen to a king. Now she is in the position as the leader instead of playing with pretty dresses and needles. Then the pissing contest of who had it worse out there with Sansa suffering at the hands of many men and Arya and her journey being sent off and trained and almost killed by the Waif.

I'm still bothered by the cameo by Ed Sheeran too.

I don't see it as Arya being arrogant so much as a sense of frustration. Ned was beheaded, Rob and Catelyn slaughtered, and she seems to be the only one taking revenge. A case of "we've all suffered but I seem to be the only one doing anything about it". I can see why she's as angry as she is.

So the 13th LC of the NW (who was probably a Stark or a Stark bastard... maybe one named Jon???) was on watch from the top of the Wall when he spied a woman with haunting blue eyes. Instantly in love with her, he ran down and pursued her into the woods, and according to legend "when he gave her his seed, he gave her his soul." Whether this "woman" was a white walker or a sort of hybrid is unknown, but it took the combined might of the King in the North and the King Beyond the Wall to bring him down. So you know he was a bad hombre if the Wildlings and the Northmen put aside their differences to fight him off.

The Wall maybe standing, but if the sea next to it (The Shivering Sea I think?) is frozen, does the wall actually need to come down? Can't the undead simply walk around the Wall at that point?

Also, after rewatching last week's episode, I think the least believable part was Tormund not knowing that "dick" was a colloquial term for "*****." Wights tying chains around Viserion to raise him? Sure. Dany showing up deus ex dragon-a and helping out the Magnificent Seven? I will let that go. But there is no way Tormund did not know the word "dick!"

Well if one can simply walk around the wall then the free folk and their ex-brother of nights watch King Mance Raider are complete fools right?

Actually wildlings have been known to try to get around the Wall, with some success. It's just hard.

The Walkers can't get across because the magic of the Wall.

The Walkers can't get across because the magic of the Wall.

I've read all 5 books several times and the companion books and also the Dunk & Egg novels. Yes, wildlings have come over from the western mountains and also east from bay of seals via boat. Not the others though. (HBO calls the others "white walkers") The Wall isn't just a barrier wall; it's magic. It wasn't built to keep men out. It was built to keep the others out. The wall was built by Bran the Builder with help from the children of the forest and giants about 6,000 to 10,000 BC. (Before Aegon) No other (white walker) has come since the Wall was built. The only way they can get across is if the wall comes down. In the books, the Greyjoy brother with the eye patch has come across a dragon horn that he acquired while in Old Valeria. I predict it will not control dragons like he thinks, but will actually allow the wall to be blown down. When it does, the others will simply walk into Westerios. They cannot fly a dragon over the wall or paddle around it while it stands. The show has already jumped the shark so I wouldn't be surprised if Fonzee flies over the wall with the ice dragon now though...

As I said in my previous post, it appears the sea is frozen around the Wall. I guess I should have worded my question differently. Does the magic within the Wall extend past the physical boundaries of the Wall? I guess it would be a terrible smack in the face if the Wall was just a giant icy cocktease when all is said and done.

Loved last night's episode. Can't wait for the final season. Heard they might push it back until 2019, which would suck.

Few thoughts.

1) Is Jaime going north by himself or will be take some of the Lannister army? Will Bronn go with him?

2) Arya is such a bad-a**.

3) Bran, it would be helpful to lay off the angst ridden aloof act and actually use your "powers' to help. For someone who supposedly knows/sees all, how did you manage to miss the Night King riding a freeking zombie dragon and destroying the wall? Also, when talking about Jon's true heritage, did you notice him banging his Aunt.....

4) If everyone ends up dead and Sansa takes the Iron Throne, I'll literally puke.

5) Would anyone be upset if the eventual person to sit on the Iron Throne was Ser Davos?

6) If I had to guess I'd say one of two things happens at the end. One would be Jon dies in battle and a pregnant Dany takes the throne with Jon's son as the crown prince or Two, Dany dies in child birth having Jon's child in which case Jon takes the throne and raises their child.

3) I don't know if he can use his powers to help right now. Remember, he never finished his training. He can see and know all, but he's not omnipotent. He has to look for something specifically and it has to be through the weirwood if he has to time hop. He saw The Wall come down the same time we did.

I have a feeling that he'll advise Sansa to evacuate Winterfell and get to The Neck, while he heads to the Isle of Faces.

Little finger death was the most obvious. Actually every single thing last night was obvious. Bad season finale. Was waiting for a red wedding or Cersi blows up sept. Nope, the fake tension between Ayra and Sansa was pointless

I agree that the tension between Arya and Sansa was pointless. Seemed a little contrived and predictable with Littlefinger. Like the producers said after the episode that it was interesting to see Littlefinger in this position that his plan is blown. He's never been in that position the entire series so maybe it's fitting when his plans are found out he gets killed off. Had to kill off a principal character since this season didn't have any.

The only other thing i thought was lame was Theon "growing a pair" and going after his sister and "winning" the fight due to some late rally in the fight after getting his a$$ kicked but lack of balls saved the day.

Lot's of set up for next season in this epsiode

1. I had the same question. I'm sure some of the lesser Lannister banners will answer/heed Jaime's call, but the majority will probably think about Cersei's wrath against their lands while they trudge North. Bronn will do whatever is best for Bronn. Maybe he'll be the castellan at Casterly Rock/Highgarden?

2. Thank GOODNESS the Winterfell Battle of the B!tches is done! It took up too much time and I would have liked a few lines directed at Baelish saying "Did you really think we would betray each other?" or something like that. I don't even care which sister would say it - Sansa or Arya would have been equally sweet.

3. I actually hope to see more Bran next year, even if we only see him go on his Excellent Adventures (where is his Ted btw?) And he did see NK destroy the Wall... remember the ravens flying past Tormund and Beric while they were atop the Wall? That was Bran. He saw it all. Well... presumably not Jon and Dany's family reunion. But he definitely saw the Wall crash.

4. Me too. The thought of it hurts my brain. Moving on.

5. No, but I don't think that is likely to happen, unless Ser Davos is literally the last person alive. It would be sweet if the last shot is him on the Iron Throne, looking straight into the camera and saying, "See... I told those children they should have listened to the man who lived to a ripe, old age."

6. I can see the show having a happier ending than that. Jon and Dany probably unite the realm and create a new dynasty of Ice and Fire. Tyrion might still be the Hand and be Lord of Casterly Rock and Guardian of the West or whatever. Sansa is the Lady of Winterfell and has all the power she ever wanted with Bran and Arya by her side, hopefully keeping her in check.

The books though... not so happy an ending.

As long as we're thinking the show will have a happier ending then I vote for Tormund & Brienne to make babies so the big monsters can conquer the world.....
