I am saying don't go there because it is only good when, it is after midnight, you have been drinking and you are almost broke.

Does food ever taste better than in the situation you just described though?

I say no. Best tortilla I've ever eaten was at 2:00 in the morning. It was a corn tortilla wrapped in a corn husk cooked above a 55 gallon drum on the streets of Tegucigalpa Honduras. My Honduran friend warned me about eating local but I was flying out at 5:00 so I told him if I got the shitts it would be on the plane to Houston.

Damn thing was DELICIOUS. Or at least that's my memories of it and they may have been blurred by the copious amounts of tequila we'd consumed that night. I never even got a cramp out of it.

Good times.

Chicos is not cheap. A double with fries and a drink is almost 10 bucks.

Exactly. Now would these tacos be so famous if they weren't good?

Exactly! Flautas dressed in enchilada clothing as a disguise.

I want to preface this with I'm a believer in trying anything and everything recommended to you when traveling to a place you've never been to before, these are only my opinions.

My wife's entire family is from El Paso and I've had to suffer through many Chico's Tacos meals. I'm not a fan, but I will say this much. Living in S.A. my entire life, El Paso has us beat with two items hands down: Tamales and Chile Rellenos.

I've had tamales there as big as your fist that were the moistest, most flavorful tamales I've ever eaten. They also make the Chile Rellenos right, with a fluffy outside and awesome red or green sauce (or no sauce at all, which is how I like them). I highly recommend eating them while you're there.

BTW, Fluffy in the video above got it right. If you do decide on Chico's Tacos, don't eat them before the game.

RE: Question for UTEP people.
Good point Migser31. I completely forgot about tamales. Growing up in the east side of El Paso I can recommend my favorite Sunday morning place for menudo and tamales. Try La Choza on Zaragoza. I use to eat an entire dozen of rajas con queso by myself.

One of my favorite tacos restaurants in San Antonio is Taquitos West Ave. Probably some of the tastiest tacos I've had my entire life.

A rolled taco is meat rolled up and fried. a Taquito is a flour tortilla with breakfast items like egg and sausage. A Flauta is shredded beef with avacado, sour cream, and tomato sauce.

RE: Question for UTEP people.
Do you need a passport to cross the border from El Paso into Mexico? Also is the area safe? I was thinking about staying at the Fiesta Inn Ciudad Juarez one of the days we will be there.

Well either there or the Hotel Correo...can't beat $8 a night :) just joking about that but if you don't need a passport I will probably stay at the one I linked to

Your whole crew coming or just the esposa? Hit me up before you get tickets and maybe we will hookup at gametime. This trip still has a green light. Something could come up before then but right now it looks solid for me.

I'm changing mine around. I was gonna leave El Paso and head to San Diego to check out MCRD. I haven't seen it since I left there on May 6th, 1977. I want to catch a graduation and still have to call out there to see if they'll have one that week.

If they do we're gonna head up to the Grand Canyon first. Then catch Las Vegas for one day. I never bet on anything but just want to see it one time. Maybe check out Hoover dam. Then head on to Southern California. Then head back. I get to drive every single mile too.

Sounds like we have some of the same plans.
Grand Canyon & Hoover dam are must stops on our list with Vegas. I hardly ever gamble but my wife's family love to. The only part we might change is the California part but right now it's on the list. Don't know if we will come in north and drive south or south to north ...three planned stops are San Diego, LA & San Francisco with each one being 1 to 1.5 days each

Right now don't know if we start off at the Gulf then San Antonio then the game. Or go to Yellow Stone the day after Ball St and through the Rockies and then San Francisco and down the coast. If we start at the Gulf in Galveston we will probably cut off Yellow stone.
and the West Coast other than 1.5 days in LA. But most likely we will do all three weeks getting home the Friday before home coming

Sounds great. I've had a trip out to San Diego in the back of mind forever. The wife has been wanting to visit her cousins in Texas for awhile. When I saw we were at UTEP this year I started putting it together. It's the only stadium I'm really excited to see in our conference. My son took in a bowl game out there one time and said it was one of the coolest settings he's ever been to.

I'm getting a little excited about it myself. We'll probably hit LA while out there but no way I drive as far north as San Francisco. Maybe another time.

The way my back has been giving me trouble I figure this might be my last trip out this way so most of the things are just see that been there trip. But if I feel better next year I have a 8 week trip in the works....

start off in New Orleans and following the US border all the way around and finishing up in Biloxi Ms. 8 weeks later. Hopefully camping in state and national parks on most of the trip.

We will differently get together at the game

Jealous of you fellers.

Supposed to do Yellowstone here in a coupla years, when the baby is almost 4.

Luckily, I did some travelling prior to kids to watch MT football (Idaho, Arizona, NMSU, etc). Saw MT hoops in Puerto Rico, but we were very average (as you know) compared to what our program is now.
