2017-18 Basketball Schedule

This doesn't compute. Inexperience diminishes with experience; playing games. These scheduling missteps occurred last year as well. I understand that it's complicated, for most everyone. We need to do better; much better.
If we're in such dire need financially, something I don't buy; let's look at the intramural players. Maybe one of the managers could help?

I'm on board with lots of early games. It would be great to have a strong OOC schedule and be in the hunt for an at-large, but realistically the second half of the season is the most important part. Playing more games early gives new players court time so they are ready when it matters. A 3 game tourney also gives the team a taste of what the CAA tourney is like and what kind of shape they have to be in.

Fair point. I guess it says something that my thoughts went to budget first.

2017-18 Basketball Schedule
Noticed that Georgetown (replaced by Depaul) has pulled out of the PK80 tournament over Thanksgiving, and speculation that they have 8-9 games to fill. Sounds like a prime opportunity to leverage a home and home, or even a two for one to Kaplan.

2017-18 Basketball Schedule
Kind of unusual, but looks like we open at High Point on Nov. 10th.

RE: 2017-18 Basketball Schedule
We just finished a pretty competitive 4 game series with them in 2015/2016.
High Point lost 3 of their 4 key scorers from last year. They finished 15-16 overall, 8-8 in the Big South.
On paper, looks like we could/should take this but road wins, as we saw last year, are very tough for W&M.
Have to believe we have three or four more home games to be announce, expecting Hampton and Marshall.

I can't imagine High Point is any worse than Hampton or Howard the past 2 seasons. I will go in assuming a loss and hope for a win

Among all the tournaments, there are still two possibilities:
Gulf Coast Classic in Esotero (Fort Meyers) FL
11/20 - 11/22
Full bracket tournament, 8 teams - all mid major
Started in 2014
Field for 2017: Penn is the only confirmed team so far, 7 TBA
Seems like a good possible option for W&M
Bahamas Showcase
11/17 - 11/20
Another mid major tourney
Needs one for 8 team field.
Already in: Weber State, Vermont, Coastal Carolina, Iona, Bradley, UTSA, NKU
Given it is almost August, so many others have already released their OOC schedules and we still can only be linked to 5 other team's schedules - I wonder if we may be getting close to confirming one of these. We are missing up to 7 known games so far.
Just updating any news on these two tourneys as of Friday:
Gulf Coast Classic
Now showing Manhattan and Florida Atlantic in the event with Penn. Leaves five openings TBA.
Bahamas Showcase
Still showing one TBA, the other seven slots all confirmed.

RE: 2017-18 Basketball Schedule
I would normally be ecstatic about a Tribe game @ High Point, but I already have tickets to two other games that night, since both Davidson and UNCC have home games.
I guess I'll just have to see when the game @ Elon is to decide if this is my only shot at seeing the Tribe in the regular season.

Davidson/Charleston Southern or UNCC/Methodist vs. Tribe/High Point....That's a non-starter, Elon game or not...It's only money.

2017-18 Basketball Schedule
Well, that's sure an oft kilter first ten days before settling into the Thurs/Sat routine that coaches hate. Sat, Tues, Fri, Sun, then Thurs/Fri's.

I actually kind of like that close to the regular season. We will be in top form by that point, and it's a good ramp up to the tourney. I'm glad UNCW and Charleston are at home, both should be good games and a chance for a big crowd at Kaplan. IF we get to a point where an at-large is a possibility, that's a great stretch to pick up some wins and an RPI bump (though aren't they using a new metric soon, maybe this year?).

Well, safe to say we will not be in the Gulf Coast Event. Towson has now confirmed participation and can't see this Tourney taking two from the CAA. Another opportunity lost and to a conference mate at that.
Guessing we are at this point trying to fill out our schedule with whatever D2 or D3 teams might be looking for a game.

RE: 2017-18 Basketball Schedule
I am using the Tribe OOC schedule as a measure of the school's commitment to the program.
So far, we are flunking big time. We simply are not committing the resources to be consistently competitive in CAA BB.
