New CAA TV deal in the works
My cable bill rolled out of the two year agreement and was over $230 per month plus Netflix. I went all streaming. Internet @200 mb $87. I get $25 off direcTvNow, which I stream through Roku, for having unlimited data on cell service and now pay $35 per month with HBO, and kept Netflix. Local channels are run with HD antenna which cost one time $35. I'm spending $100 less per month with no agreements

Oh yeah, Ron Carrier said that on his 18th birthday or something like that, right?

Breaking News From Today's DNR

Quote:RICHMOND — The Colonial Athletic Association has signed a new multi-year agreement with Stretch Internet, the conference announced Wednesday, extending the partnership between the two organizations.

Stretch is the official streaming provider for the CAA and nine of its member institutions, including James Madison’s MadiZone. As part of the new agreement, Stretch will build and host custom applications on select platforms, including ROKU, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV, in addition to the integration of live statistics and social media feeds that are featured on the online application.

The CAA is still finalizing its television agreement with CBS Digital and Twitter, which commissioner Joe D’Antonio announced last month at the league’s football media day. The only media contract in place for the upcoming season is the four-year deal with CBS Sports Network to televise the CAA men’s basketball tournament semifinals and championship game, which runs through 2021.

On the bright side I don't have to worry about deleting any of last year's games off my DVR to free up space for this year.

Doubling down on that ****** stretch internet that can't handle more than 100 viewers at once. Get ready to watch a photo slideshow of all of our games as it endlessly buffers.
We're back to the days of listening to curt on the radio and imagining what the game looked like in our heads.
They're developing an application for everything but chromecast? I guess I'll have to go get a roku or whatever is cheapest.

Yeah, it's pretty bad when your university's own fans are having to tweet directly at a sport's network to sell the school's league for a tv deal...I wonder if CSN ever responded to those tweets the other night?

Or maybe we'll go back to the days when people actually went to the game.

People can't even go to the grocery store 10 or fewer minutes away.

CAA.TV usually works great on the Roku. I would recommend it

Apparently in this day and age, you can do a piss poor job and get your contract renewed. Exactly what are they hanging their hat on in terms of success?

I have no idea. They know Stretch is a bad product.

Mind boggling.

Willing to wait a week or two for the "pending announcement", but if we go into this season with NO televised games, and no streaming beyond Stretch, some heads should roll. That would be beyond pathetic.

Who gets the blame, the new commish or the evolution of 1AA sports?

The New Commisioner gets 100% of the blame. The MVFC, SoCon and Southland all have ESPN3 deals. The Big Sky has an extensive Root Sports (regional tv) deal.

If we're supposedly the #2 FCS league, there's really no excuse.

The blame falls directly on the commissioner. As stated, other leagues have better deals in place and don't have 3 teams in the top 15 entering this Fall.

Look for our National Chanpions, who represent a Nationally branded university, playing on your local Roku or Firestick via Stretch.

Sad.

Piggy backing on that NYT article yesterday. They had a second one today with this quote that kind of puts a damper on the cord cutting revolution that at least I was hoping for. I know some are holding out due to an appropriate answer to live sports.

"But this still-unnamed subscription service is designed to protect the cable bundle, at least initially. The service will offer only sports programming that is not available on ESPN’s traditional channels. Only people who also pay to receive ESPN the old-fashioned way (via a cable or satellite hookup) will be able to stream ESPN’s core offerings, including N.F.L. and N.B.A. games."

"League associate commissioner for football Brian Gordon said an official announcement could come as early as the next three weeks, ahead of the 2017 season start."

"as early as" = at the earliest.
"three weeks" = 6 more days from now
"ahead of the 2017 season start" = announcement deadline is still 3 weeks from now

Patience = something people used to have, and believe to be a virtue.

The first CAA football game starts in 17 days. Most leagues announce their TV deals in the winter. We're here half-assing our book report at 6am right before school.
