When I lived in the 111 it wasn't midtown. It was the outskirts of Orange Mound.

I guess you could say Chickasaw Gardens is the outskirts of Orange Mound.

Agreed. Not Midtown or East Memphis. Even though it shares the 38111 with Sherwood Forest (Park-N, Prescott-W, Getwell-E, Kimball-S), it's not that either. It's simply the'UofM area'. As for Orange Mound that's Southern-N, Semmes-E, Lamar-S, and Airways-W.
I always get a kick when the local news totally misidentifies areas. I'm sure it's some intern laying out the graphics that's unfamiliar with the area but you'd think they'd make the effort to get it correct.

I'm with you on Sherwood Forest, and it baffles me how many people get Orange Mound wrong.

Parts of 38111 are definitely East Memphis. Some folks would consider most of the 38111 zip code to be in East Memphis. None of 38111 lies within the traditional definition of Midtown.

The "midtown ends at Parkway" line has always driven me nuts. East high school is not in East Memphis, nor is U of M in my opinion.

I personally think East Memphis starts at Goodlett

So you don't think Galloway golf course is in East Memphis? Let me ask you another question...why do you think they named it East HS?

To be fair East Memphis and Midtown has been fluid. It was a general designation as it related to Downtown. East Memphis kept going East and Midtown spread out and Normal Station kind of lost its meaning over time since it was named after a train station stop. For reference, Normal Station was at one point described as an East Memphis neighborhood. Sherwood Forrest was a housing development. Orange Mound was given its name due to flowering shrubs in the community developed for African Americans. My old neighborhood defined by Highland Greer Southern Central was called East Buntyn as opposed to Messick-Buntyn across the tracks. Remember Buntyns Resturant? Man I loved those rolls and home cooking veggies.

It's really not worth the arguement because housing developments had names and street borders but directional designations changed over time. I agree that U of M area sounds just fine unless you listen the news identifying crime. Then the area gets really big.

I think anything on the East Side of the viaduct should be consider East Memphis.

I agree with the crime statement. I've seen more reports of crime at the UofM in which it's really was in Sherwood Forest.

Chair backs on the east side of the stadium, behind the visitor bench. There is a waiting list for chair backs on the west side (behind the Tiger bench).

That's because they've got 10,000 seats blocked off that will be Kroger tickets for the first game. Sections 117-121, from the halfway up point all the way to the top are blocked off. Kroger tickets.

no such thing...38104 is great.

Small mindedness.

Midtown is so much more than 38104. You totally disregard lots of real estate.

I like the 38112 area around Rhodes and Broad Ave...but that's all I'd consider in that zip. Maybe that tiny section of 38107 East of Alex's Tavern and south of Jackson (also next to Rhodes)

that's midtown to me. (at least the only parts I would consider living in)

also...how could you live in cooper young and not be 38104? like, what was that address that's cooper-young and not 38104?

I mean, if you're west of Barksdale and south of York...that ain't Cooper-Young.

I lived on Manila in 38114, very much in CY. Between Rembert and Barksdale. CY goes to Seattle.

38112 has Overton park, Zoo and Evergreen Historic district. 38107 is Historic Vollintine Evergreen and the green line.

Small-minded 38138 boa.

I disagree with your definition but hey, I've been called far worse :-)

I like Germantown a lot. I was born and grew up out this way, and I went to Houston High...but I love midtown too and I'd love to move back someday.

I love to get one of those small zero lot houses where Peabody meets Cooper.

According to the historical marker, OM is bounded by the Southern Railroad on the
north, Airways on the west, Park Ave. on the south, and Goodwyn on the east. 600 Goodwyn is the address of the Memphis Country Club. Chickasaw Gardens is to the north of the Country Club. According to the documentary I just saw on Orange Mound at the Clayborn Temple movie series, the Country Club was a large employer of the early residents of Orange Mound. I am not sure I would agree exactly with the boundaries on that marker, though.

I would think it would be Lamar to the south. According to that Melrose isn't in Orange Mound.
