Huskies open at #86 Massey composite rankings
NIU at 86 is slightly higher than I would have guessed but seems reasonable. Here are NIU opponents rankings:

#68 Boston College
NR Eastern Illinois
#39 @ Nebraska
#36 @ San Diego State
#117 Kent State
#128 @ Buffalo
#103 @ Bowling Green
#96 Eastern Michigan
#50 @ Toledo
#108 Ball State
#27 Western Michigan
#93 @ Central Michigan

This is based on about 8 or 9 computer rakings, and WMU might be evaluated a little high because last year being used as starting point. Huskies have to obviously sweep that Week 5-7 stretch

Yeah I know Ken Massey always preaches to beware of pre-season rankings because of how much emphasis they put on last year.

Looking at just Ken Massey's 1 system, which I have found probably to be one of the best out there, here are a few of his predicted scores

For the opener

Boston College 28
NIU 21

The big one @ Nebraska:

NIU 20
Nebraska 34

The other big non-conf road game

NIU 21
SDSU 34

Biggest margin of victory besides EIU

NIU 31
Buffalo 20

Biggest margin of defeat in conference

Western Michigan 37
NIU 27

Toss up games (3 points or less differential)
@ BGSU and @ CMU

Well, we definitely have the chance to be in top 25 conversation if we run the table

I'll never forget coming into town from the north on glidden that night and coming to a stop still out in the cornfields. Thought there must have been a bad accident until finally realizing it was football traffic when getting to the first stop lights. Just couldn't believe it

I remember wile still living in the suburbs that I could bring my wife to a game and purchase tickets at the gate. Except one night in 2003 when the Cyclones came to town. Traffic backed up and tickets sold out. I had to drive back to the burbs....

Yea, replacing a good senior QB and 1st rounder at WR, I don't think so either.

From what Ive read, the knock on Nebraska is that they don't have any true stars or standout players, just a solid team with no weaknesses.

There is NO way Toledo should be #50! Ask any of their fans and they will tell you that Toledo should be in the top 3 nationally.

If Massey is a joke then the whole college football media is a joke. Isn't this just an indictment of college football in general.? Isn't this an indictment of our entire American society!?

But seriously, Massey is just a compilation of all other polls, and just about every pollster treats the MAC as an afterthought. They will spend days figuring out how to rank the teams in the SEC and Big Ten, but at the last minute they say "Oh crap! I forgot about the MAC. I'll just rank them as they finished last year." Is anyone really going to remember how certain polls ranked the MAC teams at the end of the year? I do not recall anyone eating crow on ESPN in December for picking the Huskies winning their division in a preseason poll, or picking EMU to finish in last place.
