I don't think football or basketball are anywhere close to stabilizing.

#stabilizing is easily the wrong word in usage by the OP......with our budget and current situation, one is on mars with that concept....

having said that, I think hoops surprises many this year.....

I have no confidence on the gridiron unless a QB emerges.....all the other pieces are in place to win 10 this year....one is simply lying to themselves if they don't understand that....6-6 at best if one (or both) cannot manage the games with efficiency.....

RE: Cards Falling into Place
7 wins should be a very realistic goal. Win the 5 non-UK home games and ULM/Rice on the road. Pull off some "upsets" (beating UTSA and LaTech considered an upset now ... ugh) and you're at 8-10 wins and in the mix for a SUNWACUSA title. Coaches were apparently telling fans at the Jackson event that we'll be a much better team regardless of who is at QB.

Basketball .... yeah, I don't see that getting any better anytime soon. I know we have two transfers that are supposed to be pretty good, but I still don't expect much from the team this year.

I'm not sure how good the OL is gonna be, and if they struggle that just makes the QB situation that much more iffy. The OL depth is going to be extra young with the 3 departures since spring.

RE: Cards Falling into Place
The day that we feel beating ANYBODY in CUSA as an upset, then the cards have fallen totally out of place. This version of CUSA is terrible and I just can't accept the fact that we are stuck in the middle of this $hit. It should never be considered unrealistic to have only one conference loss. The cards are not aligned until that is what is expected from staff and funding is provided to make it happen.

I was told that the coaches are hoping for 6-6 at best. So we'll see.

I would "hope" that they are telling the players, themselves and the fans a CUSA championship and anything else is unacceptable. If our coaches are saying that, then we have hit the bottom and that is worse than the 0-12 season.

which makes 'by design' so much more critical this season.....

we have the tools in the shed to get in the EZ.....we just need somebody that understands "utilization" both under center AND an architect.....

I hate saying it.....I just don't have the confidence in the two categories that matter most....

Me thinks Missouri should keep quiet. Their enrollment is in the tank.

The only thing unique and notable about USM academically is Polymer Science - used to be one of the top 5 in the US, and it is being neglected under the current leadership.

I'll semi disagree with this, B&GBU... I think the Oceanography / Ocean Engineering program is probably even more notable than the Polymer Sci one right now (or at least until recently?).

I kinda remember the three non-liberal arts programs, where I was told USM was the better choice were Polymer Sci, Ocean Life Sciences (or something like that?) and Computer Science.

You wanted any other engineering/sci course, you took PissState
Law or such .. you took OlePiss.

But those three were USM's bread and butter for a while.

(Are they still pushing the Casino/Hospitality Management school, or was that pretty much handed off to Tulane?)

Again, my only issue with Hattiesburg was if you were a Gulf Coast student/alumnus, you were an "outsider" on the main campus for the most part, although I've heard that relationship has improved over time.
