It is too bad that he completely blew up the bridge when he left W&M. We could really use each other at this point. I have no idea how the NCAA would view his coming back to W&M. A completely stupid and moot mind wandering on my part.

I remember that sometime in the late 70"s or early 80 we had a young man that transferred out to either American or GW?? and he changed his mind before he actually played or practiced with the team. He was allowed to come back. This was during Bruce's Tenure. I am not sure that Jack can return even if he wanted to, but he may be allowed to take some more undergraduate courses. Anyone have any idea's as if this is possible?? If Greg and Jack were really close friends, he may want to come back if Jack does!! Just thinking!!

I guess Jack didn't like the Kansas "resort" that much.

I love how the reporting out of Kansas talks about how they are thin now at the post with only 3 people. I get that's thin for them, but makes them look flush with resources compared to us!

I also loved how they said that Self thinned out the position to make room for a big time 5 star recruit. I guess a 2.5 star recruit wasn't good enough for him, I hope he lives to regret this action. Welcome to the big time basketball where winning and money is everything

I keep seeing people say this but how did he blow up the bridge? I don't recall him blasting the coaches, and he showed up at the post-season basketball dinner. What did he do that was so wrong?

I *think* the party line on this thinking is that he blind-sided the staff/team with his decision.

The blindsiding may very well be true, but desperate times may be salve for sore feelings. He is regarded as the number 1 available transfer big man. He is better than any other transfer we are looking at and will immediately produce more than any late signing freshman will. It would elevate this years team to arguably the best interior tandem in the CAA. So yes, I'm all for his return and don't think it will sink this season's team. That said, being the top available big, I'm sure he is getting suitors from all over. I highly doubt he comes back unless some serious bridge mending occurs. I'm not sure if either side is even interested in that.

I agree with everything you're saying. I think the team would benefit from him coming back. I think Jack would benefit from him coming back. I think as fans we'd benefit from him coming back.

Just seems so unlikely for it to happen.

Jack's Transfer Destination
http://m.kusports.com/news/2017/jul/21/t...tes=mobile

""If Jack Whitman’s departure from the Kansas basketball program were nothing more than a convenient means of clearing a roster spot for the possibility of landing Marvin Bagley III, then that would have happened much later, so it’s not that.

This time it actually does appear to be Whitman’s decision and not one he was talked into, although based on the lack of buzz he created during his summer in Lawrence and the ho-hum, so-long statement from coach Bill Self, it doesn’t appear anybody tried talking him out of it, either.

Whitman didn’t look as good in the Bill Self Basketball Camp scrimmages against big-time athletes as he did executing nice footwork for buckets on YouTube in Colonial Athletic Association games."

If indeed this was simply a matter of a reality check, then I have no doubt in Coach Shaver's wise leadership to understand that maturation journey, and accept him back, if Jack makes that determination. One thing for sure, he needs to make a right second choice.

I guess my last thought on Whitman is that time is running short. School starts in less than a month. That isn't much time to find and get into many a graduate program. I know basketball pulls some strings but the window is tiny. Provided he left in good academic standing, W&M might be his most direct road to joining a D1 team this year.

Certainly don't know what's in a young fella's thinking without him sharing, but I would imagine the reality of the loss of the three players/buddies you came in with, Omar/Daniel/Mike moving on, could have hit pretty hard at the end of the season.

Jack obviously didn't find what he was looking for in Kansas, either.

22 year old adults make a lot of crazy decisions. I know I did. My guess is that he was somewhat impulsive and now second guessing all of it. I just hope it ends up well for him. He gave us four years, got a degree, and like many athletes will go on to other things in life.

RE: Jack's Transfer Destination
I read an interesting article this morning in The Columbus Dispatch about Thad Matta.

In that article, it talks about recruiting involving "a racket of nefarious street agents, AAU money launderers, and cutthroat recruiters.".

It seems to me that, if a player's "choice of school" decision rests on anything other than the school as a whole, the player can be sorely disappointed in how things eventually turn out ... high school recruits ... college playing time ... graduate transfers.

Conversely, what Tony and the staff have to put up with ... Not enough money in the world would tempt me to be the head coach of men's hoops at W&M.

God bless Tony and the staff!

At first sight, I figured the same. Reading a bit, it sounds like he walked away from KU.

I think he's done with basketball and will start his professional life.

Jack's Transfer Destination
Bill Self stated Jack was already back home in Lexington when he called him, and didn't think Kansas would find a replacement this late in the game. He stated he did not know Jack's plans. With the elbow he took to the head during Self's basketball camp, never know concussion status.

If planning to play, come back home, Jack, and finish with a big year.

Not happening. It'd be good for us in the short term, but the long term effects would kill mid majors. If Jack were allowed to come back, mid major players would basically 'try out' for a high major program for a summer, stick around if given a scholarship, and if not, just return to their mid major with no consequence

I agree that the odds of Jack coming back are something akin to winning at powerball.

What I don't understand is how not taking Jack back would keep your scenario above from happening?
