RE: OT: Starting July 1, VA drivers could get ticketed for driving slow in the left lane
Problem is that it is not being advertised on the interstate system, or any other 4 lane road. Most people driving dont even know this law was passed. It's going to take some tickets on 33, 95,and 81. I agree truckers are the worst culprits side by side at 65 mph for miles. I had that argument with my father in-law about left lane lewy's as i call them. He maintained he had the right to drive in the left lane as much as those in the right lane even when hold ing up traffic. I once asked a state trooper about the passing lane driving, he stated if you are impeading traffic I wil give you a ticket. I think some left lane lewy's, are self appointed speed enforcers.

I went on a weekend trip to Busch Gardens (saw a lot of JMU gear being repped, but that's a different topic). I can say with certainty that a lot of drivers do not realize this is a law. I gave a lot of tickets to a lot of idiots... I mean... "left lane lewy's" in my head.

Yeah, on my way up to visit family in NJ from Charlotte I took I-95 (almost doubled my time with traffic) but there were just as many left lane squatters on 95 as I saw on my way back going down I-81. I will say I encountered only a single truck driver on 81 who seemed to care about blocking the left lane. He/She went left to pass another truck, saw me approaching quickly, and actually went back in the right lane without attempting to pass the other truck. Looked in my review mirror and the sweet, glorious individual did it again for the car behind me. That sumb1tch needs to be cloned.
To the truckers that take 12 miles to pass another truck, I hope your next meal of pickled pigs feet and livermush give you incurable dysentery.

I would venture most of the truckers know about the law, and can ill afford to waste time in court paying fines. Its the automobile drivers that are unaware they are breaking a newly passed law. Maybe the amber alert signs that give accident and traffic reports could flash that law too! So all drivers would at least be aware they shouldn't dilly dally in the passing lane anymore.

That would be too effective. Instead, we'll pass the law & never enforce it.

It's a citizen's responsibility to know and abide by laws. A police offer will not and should not let "nobody told me" be an excuse. They get a ticket anyways.

You've always had to move out of the left-most lane unless you're in the process of passing.

Given the amount of ******** in VA that hang out in the left lane I didn't know that was on the books in VA (and you could say the same about a lot of states)..
I was told it isn't on the books in PA..
PA has had a law since at least 2010 that states the left lane is only for passing or turning on multi lane roads.
You guys are over thinking this. The left lane is the passing lane is common knowledge, taught in driving school and law in at least 40 states already. Those that are currently lane blockers are drivers that are oblivious to their surroundings. A ticket isn't going to change their driving habits that are ingrained in their personality and they will remain the same absent minded a'holes.
