(07-05-2017 04:47 PM)invisiblehand Wrote:  I suggested the university holding a regional marching band competition early on a weekend (or even running through Thursday / Friday / Saturday Morning) and scheduling a football game later that Saturday. Parents around Tulsa will go out of there way to support there kids at those things. It's kind of ridiculous. If you charged 5 dollar admission to the band event, and each band admission ticket came with a couple free game tickets you could drum up attendance, concession revenue, and community involvement. It would be incredibly hard to organize between the local / regional high schools but I think it could be worth the time and effort. It's a good way to promote the University as a whole, and to get "new" fans to the games. Make sure to give some of the revenue from the earlier sessions to the schools' music programs of course.

Host it early in the season, so later in the season you can invite the top bands back for a big halftime or postgame battle of the bands sort of thing.

Hard to do that with HS bands... the bands have to have time to actually learn / rehearse routines. It might have to be an October sort of thing.

Cincinnati rents out their field to the local USL team and is making significant money from it.

Is a lottery for great season tickets (50 yard line?) a good or bad idea?

Definitely October. This is not a bad idea. The only down side is all the volunteers it takes to orchestrate such an event. TU hosted a marching band event back in 2014 or 2013. I can't remember what it was exactly. They had probably about 50 of us from TU's band volunteer during the day and then we all had to come in to play an exhibition (halftime show) that evening. It may be profitable though if you can get the top 6A bands, along with other top end bands (i.e. Berryhill, OK, Bentonville, AR) to come to it.

Memphis will be offering a combo pack including select bball and fball games sometime in the future. I'm curious to see how it does.

East Carolina votes for piracy. I know it is risky but the rewards may be worth it. Just don't tell the Naval Academy.

Uhh, ever since phone bills, cable bills, satellite TV bills, cell phone bills...

Ever look at your bills? It's all Universal Service Fund Fees, state taxes, 911 fees, regulatory charges, gross receipts surcharge, broadcast TV fees, etc., etc.

Hold out and wait. If ESPN gives a a low ball offer go with NBC Sports for Tier 1, FS1 for Tier 2 and Fox Sports Regional or Amazon Prime or Twitter for Tier 3. Though you can be completely bold and give CBS and CBS Sports Network the Tier 1 and Amazon Prime the rest of the rights. Its simple. Amazon is ready to get into the game, jump ship and make the right move.
