Why don't the strongest 6 schools from each of the two conferences come together to form a new conference? That way App doesn't have to worry about flying to texas.

If we're going after an Eastern market school, I'd much much rather have ODU over Charlotte.

What's in it for C-USA, though? For a trade to happen, as opposed to a raid, both sides have to believe they are getting more in return than what they are losing. Charlotte isn't adding much for C-USA, so they'd be happier to lose them than ODU.

LOL, I don't think anybody in CUSA East + UAB wants to lose either one. Certainly not for another underperforming TX school (no offense to Bobcats fans, I understand you have lovely coeds).

It took three pages, but I'll say it. You know there are 17 other sports the conference offers and you'd then essentially leave UTA on an island, thereby increasing travel costs for the entire conference. Not to mention you'd be giving up the team that finished second in the all-sports standings and alienating UTA, which finished third. That means that the competitiveness of every other sport falls.

But, you know, football.

We'll take it!

If push actually came to shove I'd really miss playing ULL, stAte, ULM, USA, Troy, and App.

Can't say I'd hate the move. Right now the SBC is a better conference for football and it would screw UTA. But for our average fan, all they see is CUSA as a step up and with Texas teams.

I would miss a lot of the conference but it sure would be nice not to be on a football island. And since we are playing some crappy football right now, maybe the downgrade to CUSA would help get some wins. /s

We already have a deal with UNCC. I think you are missing the point. In time the G5 will need to make more geographical sense. I think it's inevitable, unless our revenues dramatically increase.

No I understand your point...to have nearby rivals that promote increased interest from fans and students. My point is we already have that to a great extent through our divisional setup and if we did what you propose then you create an island out of UTA. I mean are you only concerned with football here because I'm pretty sure App plays a whole lot more sports.

Now if we picked up Charlotte and So. Miss I could live with that.

Funny thing is I posted the same scenario before I saw what you wrote.
04-cheers

I'd take Memphis, Houston, ECU, and the U_Fs too.

Are you claiming that none of the Texas CUSA schools are within the top 6 in that league?

Care to elaborate?

Charlotte is the only reasonably easy travel destination for ODU fans. I live in the western part of the state so it's a little better for me but if you were coming from Norfolk:

Charlotte: 5+ hours
Huntington: 7+ hours
Murfreesboro: 10+ hours
Birmingham: 11 hours
Bowling Green, KY: 11+ hours

I do sort of understand where you guys are coming from on travel though. Outside of ULM, the only schools reasonably close to Jonesboro are Memphis and like half of CUSA's Eastern Division.

An invite to the AAC would be ideal as ECU, Navy and Temple are all under 5 hours. Short of that a SB/CUSA realignment would at least gain us a couple more within a 6 hour drive in App and CCU and both the GA schools are closer than MT and WKU.

Being right up against the Atlantic will cause these problems so travel won't be great for us unless we go back to the CAA. Our admins done well scheduling OOC though. Other than the back end of a series with Buffalo, after this year I don't think we have any games scheduled with a school outside of VA or NC, including several ACC schools.

Can anyone name the CUSA TX teams without looking it up is the real question..I did after some long thought.

This is why a TXST-for-CLT trade won't happen. Good point.

And what would that be that's in it for CUSA. Texas State football over the last 5 years avg is 4-8, the last 2 years 2-10. Texas State basketball over that same period of time has a 16-21 record. So again what the #%^& would CUSA be gaining, a decent Softball program and as much as I love watching Marshall spoftball, no thanks.

At least Charlotte looks to be showing life in football and if Mark Price could keep the players he has recruited from transferring he may just get them back to being respected in basketball.

Baseball was pretty good this year and soccer is always good as well, FWIW
