Indiana has a 48 hour public notice minimum per IC-5-14.1-5

A summary of the law is found here
http://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/open-mee...ws-indiana

The Purdue Board of Trustees website is here
http://www.purdue.edu/bot/

**************************

FortWayne already has a lot on their plate. The Board just 5 days ago worked on the realignment from IU and PU to PU. It would be very difficult and uncharted to switch during the transition. They would likely need both PU and IU board approval of an athletic move until June 2018 when PU alone takes full control.

http://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/...ments.html

These fees would have to be adjusted to pay for an athletic increase or fund trannsfer. And that requires a meeting.

http://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/...udget.html

Bottom line, the timing is as bad as it can possibly be for Purdue-Fort Wayne to try and switch conferences.

********

FYI, my offer is for today only. We will almost certainly know the truth by tomorrow at this time. And it would no longer be fair the moment some news verifying one or the other is out. (Could happen any moment)

All that means is that, so far, no meeting had been called for up to 48 hrs from now. BE PATIENT.

Your posturing is merely a hypothesis at this point. I have nothing to invalidate it, but my lack of invalidation is not equivalent to validation!

The Horizon was basically the Summit, but that was over 20 years ago. 1994 to be precise.

The difference is Horizon has urban markets and the Summit does not.

That said why would a school in Phoenix want part of it?

As for West Texas A&M? They do still have rapid fan base that could go higher if they move to D1. Every Texas schools still have better fan support than some MAC schools. The Lone Star conference alone tells it alone as a better football attendance conference for football behind the HBCU conferences. One of the West Texas A&M's home game, if I remember right, had more than 22,000 in the 20,000 seat stadium. That is more than what New Mexico State could get lately.

When did West Texas A&M get 22,000 for a game DavidSt??????? Who was the opponent? Last year? The year before? Back up your statement that West Texas A&M gets better attendence than MAC schools or New Mexico St.

You'd think if they extended the offer, then the league presidents would've already long ago contacted the school to do the vetting, site visit, etc. and would also thus have the votes to get the school in. And why would said school entertain the new league if it wasn't interested in accepting the invite?

If this isn't fake, then seems like it should be a done deal already.
Two weeks coincides with a July 1st deadline to give a full year notice for switching conferences.

That is my interpretation.

A school in Phoenix will do what it can to get out of the glorified scheduling alliance known as the WAC. They already play schools in or near the Horizon's footprint.

What GCU wants is irrelevant. It entirely depends if HL presidents can look past the obvious negatives of having their traditional institutions of higher education associated via athletics to a for-profit Christian enterprise.

Fort Wayne would just make too much sense as far as footprint. The HL creates a more compact conference schedule for them, and it'll bolster the rebrand effort for PFW with IU spinning off its portion of the university into a separate entity.

GCU is a school the Horizon has been interested in for a while, and I think they get in eventually, but I'm not sure the membership is ready for all those plane trips just yet.

JD,

Our friend has a personal interest in a Summit and Big Sky realignment. It's more an emotional investment, not financial. Anything that spoils a shake up in that meets with his faux incredulity that such events could happen. It took me awhile to figure out his agenda.

GCU is pretty similar to Liberty, in that nobody controls them, and they have the money and will to force things in their favor. There are heavy hitters, both financial and political, behind both of them.

What our Minnesota resident doesn't want to acknowledge is the strongest proponent of GCU (and NMSU) in the Horizon is LeCrone himself. It seems at least Chicago and Milwaukee agree with that thinking. I am pretty sure the process was simply due diligence to prove there was no better candidate to the member than GCU. So they vetted the 4 others, picked the one with the strongest case to give a presentation to compare against GCU. We have seen how a commissioner's will power can dominate even Presidents who go in thinking a different direction, as Karl Benson shut down NMSU and pushed his candidate CCU through. Doug Fullerton in his madness talked the Big Sky into taking obvious mistakes UND (geography) and SUU (academics, funding levels). A commissioner's vision will often carry the day.

LeCrone's agenda is to make the Horizon as relevant as possible. A selection of any of those schools other than GCU would have sent a message that the Horizon is a bottom feeder and not important. By selecting GCU they open the door to go after schools like NMSU, Belmont, Murray Stat, Liberty and Stephen F. Austin. The sort of conference Colangelo has been hinting at coming, where stronger lower Mid Majors take care of themselves. NMSU was too timid in their approach, GCU more forceful and decisive. And that is why they carried the day. The door is open for heavier hitters to be next.

You're talking about NoDak. Please don't confuse us. I have no such agenda.

Lots and lots of posturing here. Lots of coming off like an insider.

You're not the first person to do so on this board, and won't be the last.

But one thing will remain the same: if it so happens that you turn out to be right (not that you'll know before anyone else), then you'll declare victory. If not .... then nothing much will happen. People will forget that you were bombastic, and will forget that you were wrong. And no one much will care.

That's like saying the Ivy League used to dominate college football or that Turkey was a major empire. That was a long irrelevant time ago.

Keep your head in the sand. The Montanas went to great lengths to get UND and USD invited. The rest of the Big Sky have been fearful ever since Boise, Nevada and Idaho left, that the Montanas will elope with the Dakotas and separate from the Big Sky cabal that hasn't done anything (EWU excepted). Fullerton knew that the Montanas paid the light bills, and no one else, and he wanted to keep them satisfied. Commissioners don't have a separate agenda from Presidents. You should know that but refuse to acknowledge it.

Fort Wayne is splitting. Purdue Fort Wayne will hold the D 1 sports. Indiana will house the medical degrees but their students cannot participate in D 1 sports

That was 10 years ago. Both games in 2005 and 2007 were against Eastern New Mexico. It could even get shattered if they take on New Mexico State in football. Their stadium could be an FBS ready now than some others. They could get that much if they do move to D1. You have never seen a D2 school get over 20,000 fans for a game in recent years.

Just merge Summit and horizon already. 19 members for single round robin conference basketball schedule.

Maybe get interest from a tv or streaming sports network due to all of the cities and states involved.

Start FCS football with Y State, UND, USD, SDSU, NDSU, W Illinois...who am I missing? ....tell Missouri Valley to pack sand.

No! Ten years ago the Horizon League was a League that had an average RPI ranking of 12 while the Summit was farther down. The HL had two teams in the Dance: Wright State and Butler. The Summit had Oral Roberts make it.

The HL had Butler, Wright State, UIC, Detroit, Milwaukee, Green Bay, Cleveland State, Loyola and Youngstown State. The Summit League had Oral Roberts, Valpo, Oakland, Southern Utah, Centenery, Western Illinois, UMKC and IUPUI.

Oakland and Valpo were the only two teams from the Summit 10 years ago that moved to the HL.
