September can't get here quick enough!

Just remember, Tech went to the Orange Bowl in 2010. What I'm trying to say, while you may need a "hanky" about 9:30 Saturday night of Labor Day weekend, if you'll not cave, your season can still be satisfying. 04-cheers

If JMU plays with the same determination and vigor as they did against N. Dakota St. they can win this one. Indeed this ECU team this year is much better but don't think as good as the N. Dakota St. team we encountered in Fargo Doom!

I'll update it on the TV contract thread as soon as I see any news but the answer is...

No. Radio Silence.

I wouldn't hold our breath for anything earth shattering given how long it's taking. It may end up being no TV next year or a small handful of CAA games picked up by CSN on a per game/short term basis. 1 or 2 JMU games tops.

That would be my guess.

I'm still holding out hope for an ESPN3 deal.

Well on the bright side, it gives a little added motivation to pack up the truck for a few additional road trips this fall.

RE: EZU Game
I'm still pretty confident about this game, but I will 100% say it all depends on which team shows up on each side of the field.

If JMU shows up and plays up to the level they did the last several games of last year in all three phases of the game, we can certainly take this game. We went into NDSU's house in the playoffs last year (higher stakes, more homefield advantage) and beat them 27-17 - which would have been much higher had it not been for a newbie at RT - the same NDSU who beat Iowa earlier in the year. If the replacements for our seniors (many of which are solid FBS transfers) can step in and immediately gel with the other starters, it looks good for JMU even if ECU plays better than their team from last year. However, if the defense sleepwalks at all, the special teams leaves their lanes for even a second, or the O-line can't hold...the win streak could be over.

If anything remotely close last year's ECU team shows up, they will lose. Even a good showing from JMU would win a game against them. I don't think that will happen, however. If they're healthy going into this game, I think their coaches and transfers will have them playing much better than last year. What could hurt them is playing TOO hard in an effort to prove that they're not last years team. Anyway, I don't think they'll snap their fingers and be as good as their 2014 team, but if they play as well as they could expect to, it should be a close one.

Can't wait!

JMU - 3 1/2

Many incredulous ECU fans are shocked JMU has been listed as an initial favorite. The ECU fans who are most incredulous have written comments that read very similar to the condescending comments posted by SMU fans...before we took SMU's lunch money and hung a stinging loss on them.

It's very common that an unsophisticated fan of programs like ECU may think that labels like "FBS" are magic talismans that automatically give their team protection and an insurmountable advantage against a "FCS" team, even if the FCS program happens to be the defending FCS NC. Part of the joy of being a fan of a FCS team is playing the role of an underdog when competing against a FBS program, however, in this case for the ECU fans who refuse to understand how any rational gambler could make a FCS program a favorite over a FBS team, well, you are in for one rude awakening.

I particularly get a laugh out of the ECU fans who think that JMU's playing in front of a large, loud and hostile crowd is something that the JMU players haven't experienced and won't be able to handle, and/or that the ECU fans are somehow "louder" or more intimidating than other stadium crowds the current JMU roster has faced. I chalk those mistaken notions up to the FBS-centric myopia that clouds most FBS fans vision of FCS. That's a mistaken notion that's hard to dispel, even when you have examples like App St. beating Michigan or JMU beating VT that clearly demonstrate the "big crowd" idea as an intimidating factor is total BS, at least when it comes to top FCS programs.

I look forward to a great game, and I expect JMU will win...and possibly by as much as 14 points. No, I won't give 14 points to anyone, but I expect a win.

PS...to the ECU fan who posted some disparaging remarks about Coach Houston...go wash your mouth out. From what I can tell about ECU's coaching staff, and after JMU beats the pirates and repeats as NC, coach Houston could very likely be your next HC. 04-cheers

Doubt JMU is worried about the crowd/atmosphere after playing a semi-final game in the Fargo Dome.

Agreed. Thoughts that's the Dukes will give it a second thought is pie-in-the sky wishful thinking by ECU fans.

FBS teams have a .824 winning percentage over FCS teams, could have something to do with their "perception" they are better and should be favored.

That being said, I expect the Dukes to win this ballgame and I expect to be able to talk some serious smack post game with several of my pals.

Dukes win 35-24. 04-rock

ECU will be tougher than some of you think.

I'd say we have a 1/3 shot of winning that game.

But that may be the only game we lose for a long while.

I see about 5 teams in FCS that can beat us:

NDSU, SDSU, EWU, Richmond, Villanova

I don't think anyone else is going to take us down and most won't even come close.

I agree with your odds in the ECU game and the list of FCS teams that could challenge us but honestly the only way I see us losing is by defeating ourselves (not executing, over-confidence, lack of focus, injuries, etc). If we are blessed enough to go the season without major injuries and the players take care of their business we should be better than last year.

But the reality is we could lose any of those games by missteps and/or misfortunes. Great to have confidence and talk smack but all fan bases have obnoxious blowhards and our's is no different.
