Could be wrong but it looks like the highest ranked G5 is Boise at 39 and lowest ranked P5 is Kansas at 100?

9 spots between Tech and WKU and 2 spots between MSTU and Tech. Top heavy again.

RE: Composite rankings preseason of all 130 1-A schools
Everyone acting like UK football now will be unstoppable in the preseason.....Yes they have a soft schedule but I don't see them finishing top 40 like everyone is predicting....Their OL and QB play are big questions....Besides this is still UK football we are talking about...

As far as CUSA goes, I think UTSA will finish way higher than preseason ranks are calling for...Everything else looks about right except I would hope our champion will at least finish ranked in the 50's....

Quick informal poll... will this season be top heavy again like the past three seasons?

I wish Vegas had one of these. If they have Middle Tenn 80 or higher I might be willing to forego my no betting principle.

This conference needs a good top 3 with a good second group of a couple teams right behind the 3.

That means winning OOC with a few 3-1 teams or even a 4-0. Do that and the bottom wont matter.

Call me a homer but last season was a fluke. I'm not saying champions but we will be back on. The middle of it this year.

This conference has always been a barbell. A bunch of good teams on one side, and a bunch of bad teams on the other, not much in the middle. I expect to see the same continue.

I wouldn't say barbell but I get your point. 30% of the teams are really good and the rest is fighting for 6 wins. Since 2013 when we came its always been two on one side two or three on the other side. Barbell insinuates that all the good teams would be in one division.

RE: Composite rankings preseason of all 130 1-A schools
I tend to think a lot of teams will do better this coming season. Tech, WKU, MTSU, and maybe even UTSA and ODU will be the top. USM if they find a QB. The FL twins should both be improved. The only teams I'm completely pessimistic on are UTEP, Rice, and Marshall (although I think MU might do a little better). I think UNT and Charlotte may be better teams but their records may not reflect it.

The east will once again be the best division, although I'm not ruling out a west champ.

All in all I think we will be a stronger conference this year compared to last. Whether the records, # of bowl teams and bowl wins reflect that is yet to be seen.

Not to sure about Tech a lot of question marks, QB, Defense and so on. I do think UTSA will be improved and MTSU should be strong also but other than that I'm not to sure.

ODU with the loss of their QB and Pascal plus their schedule looks tougher this year, they really benefited from the easiest schedule in CUSA last year

This is so true, the problem is long running now. Consistent championship contenders on one side of the spectrum and a couple folks in the middle then a bunch of bottom feeders.

Most conferences are like that unless you play a couple "buy" games OOC...with you doing the buying.

What this conference is missing is a 4th or 5th good team that's going to win 9 or more games. I would much rather be top heavy than average across the board...with only 1 or 2, eight or nine win teams.

But the key is OOC and when you over schedule it's bad for the conference.

One of those doing just that is Rice...be lucky to get 1 win out of the 4

08/26 - Stanford (in Australia)
09/16 - at Houston
09/30 - at Pittsburgh
10/07 - Army

Middle over scheduled also but not as bad as Rice because at least Middle should have enough talent to compete. Maybe even get a couple wins

09/02 - Vanderbilt
09/09 - at Syracuse
09/16 - at Minnesota
09/23 - Bowling Green

Another one is UTEP could easily go 0-4

09/02 - at Oklahoma
09/16 - Arizona
09/23 - at New Mexico State
09/30 - at Army

I'm not saying they are bad schedules for those schools. But they are for the conference and OOC wins. One other thing, our top teams have to beat the Vandy's of the P5. The last two years Western let two of those game slip away in Vandy and IU. Cant do that if you want to compete for the G5 spot in the NY6 game

I disagree. Everyone of the P5 teams we play are average to below average P5 teams. This is an ideal schedule. No 1AA team that nobody cares about and several good opportunities to get a "big name" win. Besides there are plenty of crappy teams in this conference to pile up wins against. At least we know that if we win out we are a shoe in for the top G5 team.
