Bearcats Recognized in Pre Season Basketball Rankings
http://www.gobearcats.com/sports/m-baskb...17aaf.html

gobearcats.com have kindly summarized all the summertime preseason rankings....

May 31, 2017

CINCINNATI – With the NBA Draft deadline in the rearview mirror most of the national media outlets have reassessed the upcoming college men’s basketball season and presented an early summer Top 25 preview. The Cincinnati Bearcats are well represented.

National media outlets listed in highest ranking for Cincinnati and include date of ranking.

// ROTHSTEIN’S CBB TOP 25 FOR 2017-18 (MAY EDITION) – BEARCATS RANKING: NO. 11

Jon Rothstein, FanRag Sports Network (May 25) Story Link

Key Newcomers: Cane Broome (transfer), Trevor Moore, Keith Williams, Mamodou Diarra
Projected Starting Five:
PG Cane Broome
SG Jacob Evans
SF Jarron Cumberland
PF Gary Clark
C Kyle Washington

Projected Bench: Nysier Brooks, Tre Scott, Justin Jenifer, Trevor Moore, Keith Williams, Mamodou Diarra

// SPORTING NEWS – BEARCATS RANKING: NO. 13

Ryan Fagan, Sporting News (May 30) Story Link

Why they’re here: The Bearcats had five guys average at least 8.3 points per game this season, and four of them are expected back. That’s pretty darn good, considering those guys formed the core of a team that won 30 games this season. Plus, former Sacred Heart star guard Cane Broome — he averaged 23.1 points as a sophomore and was the Northeast Conference player of the year — will be eligible after sitting out this year as a transfer. Mick Cronin just wins at Cincinnati.

// FOXSPORTS.COM – BEARCATS RANKING: NO. 14

Aaron Torres, FoxSports.com (May 25) Story Link

Mick Cronin’s program continues to plug along, and after a 30-win season in 2017, could be even better next year. The Bearcats return their top three scorers and add transfer Cane Broome, who averaged 23 points per game at Sacred Heart two seasons ago. The rich got even richer late, when Cincinnati added a commitment from former Washington signee Mamoudou Diarra just a few weeks ago.

// SB NATION – BEARCATS RANKING: NO. 15

Mike Rutherford, SB Nation (May 30) Story Link

Troy Caupain leaves big shoes to fill, but fellow stars Jacob Evans and Gary Clark are back from Mick Cronin’s strongest Cincinnati team to date. Sacred Heart transfer Cane Broome should add even more offensive firepower to a roster that should provide the best competition for Wichita State in the AAC.

// ESPN.COM – BEARCATS RANKING: NO. 16

Myron Metcalf, ESPN (May 25) Story Link

Since 2011, Mick Cronin's Bearcats have finished within the top 25 of KenPom.com's adjusted defensive efficiency rankings for seven consecutive seasons. In that stretch, he has lost an abundance of talent, including Octavius Ellis, Sean Kilpatrick and Cashmere Wright. Cincy's identity as one of America's top defensive teams has not changed, but in 2017-18, Cronin might field his most balanced team. Kyle Washington (12.9 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 1.2 BPG), who connected on 53 percent of his shots inside the arc and 36 percent of his 3-point attempts, returns to lead Cincinnati into a battle with Wichita State for the American championship. With Jacob Evans and Gary Clark in the mix, Cronin will have his top three scorers and critical elements of his defense from last season. Jarron Cumberland made 65 percent of his shots inside the arc last season. Now he moves into a more significant role with Troy Caupain and Kevin Johnson gone. This group also adds Sacred Heart transfer Cane Broome, a guard who sat last season after averaging 23.1 points in 2015-16. Another strong year for Cincy? Yes, another strong year for Cincy.

// CBSSPORTS.COM – BEARCATS RANKING: NO. 16

Gary Parrish, CBSSports.com (May 22) Story Link

Coach: Mick Cronin
2016-17 record: 30-6
Notable players definitely gone: Troy Caupain, Kevin Johnson
Notable players also expected to leave: None
Notable players expected to return: Jacob Evans, Kyle Washington, Gary Clark, Jarron Cumberland, Trey Scott, Justin Jenifer, Nysier Brooks, Quadri Moore
Notable newcomers: Cane Broome, Mamoudou Diarra, Keith Williams, Trevor Moore, Eliel Nsoseme
Why the Bearcats are here: Mick Cronin has guided the Bearcats to seven consecutive NCAA Tournaments. An eighth is on tap considering Jacob Evans, Kyle Washington, Gary Clark and Jarron Cumberland are back and capable of competing at or near the top of the AAC standings again.

// USA TODAY – BEARCATS RANKING: NO. 21

Scott Gleeson, USA TODAY Sports (May 26) Story Link

Coach Mick Cronin has most of the nucleus back from a 30-win squad, including the top three scorers Jacob Evans, Kyle Washington and Gary Clark. Guard Jarron Cumberland figures to take another step as a sophomore. The key offensive addition is Sacred Heart transfer Cane Broome, who averaged 23.1 points a game in 2015-16 as the Northeast Conference Player of the Year.

Otoh, a lot of people who haven't seen Jacob Evans since before he came to UC might not recognize him this summer.

What's the rest of the AAC look like this year? Is UC the preseason favorite? What does SMU have returning?

Wichita State is a top 10 team and being touted as the favorite with UC 2nd. SMU is expected in the hunt as well.

Personally I think UC should be the favorite as Wichita State isn't used to be tested more than 2 or 3 times a year in conference. When half them teams in your new conference are better than the 2nd best team in your old conference, who knows what to expect. Heck I would bet our worst teams would probably finish top 3 in their old conference. Don't get me wrong, Wichita State should be really good, but being the hunted in a conference with more firepower is much bigger than being the hunted in the Missouri Valley when only a team or two have a legit chance to upset you.

The other thing I think will potentially bother them the first year is the travel. The MVC was a legitimately regional conference. I doubt they had to go more than 150 miles to any of their games. Now they will be flying to UConn on a monday and Tampa on a saturday. That is going to have an effect on them, especially the first year.

The only real UC fans in the media in this town are Dan Hoard, George Vogel, Mo Egger and Elise Jessie (by proxy since she is married to the strength and conditioning coach).

dude, you need a geography lesson...you have to drive 150 miles in Kansas just to get to the next town.

Heck, their travel may even be easier now just because AAC cities are way more accessible than MVC cities.

You certainly got the UC media folks right, though I do think Lance is a UC football fan, haven't listened to him in years just an impression I got years ago. Think Broo is more of a pro fan and I don't know who does any other station.

The other thing I think will potentially bother them the first year is the travel. The MVC was a legitimately regional conference. I doubt they had to go more than 150 miles to any of their games. Now they will be flying to UConn on a monday and Tampa on a saturday. That is going to have an effect on them, especially the first year.

dude, you need a geography lesson...you have to drive 150 miles in Kansas just to get to the next town.

Heck, their travel may even be easier now just because AAC cities are way more accessible than MVC cities.

Very true. Outside of East Carolina, every team in this league has a major international airport in its metro area.

Broo is an Ohio alum/fan if I recall correctly.

He's a Bobcat..but it seldom enters his broadcasts..
On the whole we have a weak bench of "journalists" except for Dan Hoard, the ENQ UC coverage is RIP, and
the Reds and Bengals dominate the airwaves.

Just remembered we're in a conference with "East Carolina"

3. Will Cane (Broome) be able?

It’s the million-dollar question in Cincinnati’s program, and it’s the only real question regarding the Bearcats entering next season. Unlike his predecessors Troy Caupain, Ge’Lawn Guyn, and Cashmere Wright, Broome will give Cincinnati something different at the point guard spot that it has never really had under Mick Cronin: A slithery, attacking floor general that can get into the teeth of the defense and create for others.

The transfer from Sacred Heart sat out last season per NCAA rules, but is expected to be this team’s starter at the most important position on the floor. The 6-1 lefty averaged 23.1 points and was essentially unguardable when he played two years ago in the NEC. If he tallies half of that number next year for the Bearcats, this is a second-weekend team in the NCAA Tournament.

Hey it's all just preseason hype but it sure speaks to the immediate impact of adding Wichita State and having two AAC teams in their top ten--and neither one is named UCONN. Once again, we're living in a conference split between "haves" and "have nots" but the haves are a pretty solid group.

Man, Lindy is really putting it out there...when's the last time we've been in ANY preseason Top 10? 1999?

We r badass. I'm stickin with it. A team with Washington and Clark in the post and Evans and Cumberland on the wing is the best team we have fielded since 01.

Heck, Broome is from what reports tell me our most explosive player! It's all good.
