I'm old and memories dim over time, but didn't UC open Pauley Pavilion with UCLA back in 1965?

No. The Cinci vs UCLA game on Dec 18th game was actually played at the LA Sports Arena as part of the LA Classic. Cinci won 82-76.

Some interesting notes of the first ever game at Pauley Pavilion:

(Remember, Freshmen were not eligible to play back then as all had to be redshirted for a season).

The first game ever played in Pauley Pavilion was on November 27, 1965. It featured the freshmen team, led by Big Lew Alcindor, against the UCLA varsity squad, the two-time defending champions and pre-season No. 1 team. The freshmen, led by Alcindor's 31 points and 21 rebounds, defeated the varsity team 75-60, heralding great things to come

First visiting team was Ohio State and UCLA trounced them.

I told you my memories had dimmed. Didn't UCLA play its home games at LA Sports Arena before Pauley opened?

Maybe a few games but most of their games thru 1964-1965 took place at their 2,400 seat Men's Gym.

No that was back in the fifties; almost all home games in the sixties before Pauley were at the LA Sports Arena if you go back and check their records.

Mississippi State is on the schedule at BB&T, then we go there the following year. As I posted before SEC, Big 12, A10 are open to these home and homes.

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men’s basketball team will start a home-and-home series with Pac-12 Conference member UCLA beginning in 2017-18, the two programs announced Thursday.

UCLA will play host to Cincinnati on Dec. 16, 2017 at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles. Cincinnati will welcome UCLA to newly renovated Fifth Third Arena on Dec. 19, 2018. Television and tip-time information will be announced at a later date.

“UCLA is a great series for Cincinnati and our fans,” UC head coach Mick Cronin said. “(UCLA head coach) Steve (Alford) and I have great respect for each other. Because of their success and history, Steve can choose from many schools for nonconference opponents. We appreciate the opportunity to play a nationally televised home-and-home series with them.

“We continue to work hard to play these type of games for our tournament résumé and our fans,” Cronin said. “Most importantly, we want our players and recruits to know that we are committed to playing the best teams in the country.”

The two teams met in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season in Sacramento, Calif., with the Bruins claiming a 79-67 victory on Mar. 19.

The Cincinnati-UCLA series is tied 2-2. Two of the other three meetings also have come in the NCAA Tournament. The Bearcats earned a 72-70 win in the 1962 national semifinal in Louisville, Ky., en route to winning their second consecutive national title. UCLA outlasted Cincinnati 105-101 in double overtime in a 2002 second round matchup in Pittsburgh, Pa. The only regular-season meeting in the series resulted in an 82-76 Bearcats win at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Dec. 18, 1965.

Cincinnati's 2017-18 squad features the return of its top three scorers from last season's team that posted the second-most wins in school history (30-6), tied the school mark for conference wins (16-2) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive year.

UCLA wrapped up its fourth season under Alford in 2016-17 at 31-5 overall, finishing third in the Pac-12 with a 15-3 league mark. The Bruins welcome a highly touted recruiting class for 2017-18.

Mar. 23, 1962 – Cincinnati won 72-70 in the national semifinals of the NCAA Tournament at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky.
Dec. 19, 1965 – Cincinnati won 82-76 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena in Los Angeles
Mar. 17, 2002 – UCLA won 105-101 in double overtime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Mar. 19, 2017 – UCLA won 79-67 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif.

// NOTABLES

The two programs have combined for 3,606 wins in their history. UCLA ranks seventh in the nation with 1,848 wins while Cincinnati is listed 16th with 1,756 victories.

Cincinnati was the first school in NCAA Tournament history to make five consecutive Final Four appearances (1959-63). UCLA soon after broke that mark with 10 consecutive appearances (1967-76). Duke is the only other school to go to as many as five consecutive Final Fours (1988-92).

Cincinnati is 27-17 all-time against current members of the Pac-12 Conference: Arizona (0-3), Arizona State (1-2), California (3-4), Colorado (7-1), Oregon (2-0), Oregon State (4-2), Stanford (2-1), UCLA (2-2), USC (0-0), Utah (3-1), Washington (3-1) and Washington State (0-0).

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's basketball team will face Cincinnati in a home-and-home series over the next two seasons, it was announced Thursday.

UCLA will host the Bearcats for the first time ever in Pauley Pavilion on Dec. 16, 2017. Most recently, the Bruins defeated Cincinnati in the second round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament in Sacramento, 79-67, to advance to the Sweet 16 for the third time in four seasons.

Cincinnati will in turn host the Bruins at Fifth Third Arena on Dec. 19, 2018, marking the Bruins' first trip to play the Bearcats at their home arena.

"We're excited to add Cincinnati to our schedule for the next two seasons," UCLA head coach Steve Alford said. "I have a ton of respect for Coach Cronin and the fantastic job he's done through 11 seasons as their head coach. With Cincinnati, you're talking about a program that has advanced to the last seven NCAA Tournaments and gave us all we could handle in that tournament last March. This will be a great matchup for college basketball fans in southern California, and I know that our players will be up for the challenge."

This marks the fourth nationally prominent home-and-home series that UCLA has added to its schedule in the last four seasons, including previous meetings in Pauley Pavilion against Gonzaga (Dec. 2014), Kentucky (Dec. 2015) and Michigan (Dec. 2016).

UCLA's win against Cincinnati on March 19 in Sacramento helped the Bruins even their all-time record against the Bearcats to 2-2. The Bruins and Bearcats previously faced each other in the 1962 and 2002 NCAA Tournaments, as well as a game on Dec. 18, 1965 at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

We are 3-3 all time against USC ; we beat them two years in a row in the nineties. Most of the other meetings were back in the sixties and seventies.

RE: UC / UCLA Basketball home & home starting next season
So we're 30-20 against the PAC. I'd like to see us schedule some more games out there-- in addition to UCLA I would love to see the Cats play Arizona, Cal, Oregon and Colorado.

I am a bit surprised to see we have played the Buffaloes 8 times over the years. That seems a lot for a school out west who we have never shared a conference with. Did one of our ADs have connections out there back in the day to get an extended series?

We beat the Buffaloes in the Midwest Regional Championship the year of our 2nd national championship and the year after also when we lost to Loyola so that probably led to the teams playing a number of games after that in the sixties.

Nice. Last year, we only played 7 games against the RPI top 50. This season, we could be looking at close to double that. In a best-case scenario:

OOC: UCLA, Florida, Xavier, maybe Iowa
In Conference: Wichita State, SMU, Houston, UCF (hopefully all twice)
Conference Tournament: Probably at least 2 games vs. top 50 teams if we can make it to the final

RE: UC / UCLA Basketball home & home starting next season
I believe our OOC schedule now looks like:

11/13 - at Duquesne (A-10 - AAC Challenge)
11/20 - Cayman Island Classic (Buffalo, Louisiana, Iowa, Richmond, South Dakota State, Wyoming, UAB)
11/21 - Cayman Island Classic
11/22 - Cayman Island Classic
12/9 - Florida, at Brooklyn
12/12 - Mississippi State
12/16 - at UCLA
Mid-Jan - at Xavier

That's a damn good schedule. I suspect the additional six or so games will consist of buy games, given that Mississippi State is the only home game on the schedule to date.

Mid-Jan - at Xavier

That's a damn good schedule. I suspect the additional six or so games will consist of buy games, given that Mississippi State is the only home game on the schedule to date.

Decent schedule. Sucks for the home fans that there are zero marquis games.

Yeah, it's pretty much guaranteed that Mississippi State will be our best OOC home game given the situation.

Yeah, but Fifth Third will be rocking for UCLA and X in 2018.
