I hear from good sources that Coach Skole will be interviewing for the job at The Citadel. This would be a win-win for us. I have stated here many times that I have no problems with Tony as a person. I just don't think he should still be the Head Baseball Coach at ETSU. This may be our only shot of getting new blood into Johnson City.

They had low standards for softball but they damn sure fired Andrea Mangrum after about three years. Skole has gotten 18.
Karen Kemp got canned and won a hell of a lot more than he has. She got axed.
He's got something on someone or has a connection that just keeps him around. He should've been gone years ago.

I think that's a great opportunity for him to go back to his alma mater and finish out his career. He should definitely consider it, I mean take it.

Of all the candidates I've heard tossed around, he's the only one who is currently a Division I head coach. Coupled with the fact that he is a piece of living Citadel baseball history, I have to think he's a lock if he has gotten that far in the process.

I really, really hope he gets the job, both for him (job security and administrative support) and for us (chance to get new blood into the program).

Hey, we owe them a coach-to-be-named-later, dating back to when we hired Les Robinson.

No, everyone pointed out that he has been here for years and that it wasn't like he was killing it before baseball got pushed down the ladder.

In my opinion baseball is a sport that can be recruited locally with few scholarships and be competitive. My freshman year at ETSU i remember seeing a couple of all state baseball players walking around campus and not on the team (to be fair 1 was on football scholarship).

I don't remember laughing but I do remember pointing out then (and now) that really isn't an excuse for most of his career.
Perhaps his inability to win got the sport pushed down the ladder?

In a fund everything equally model of the previous athletic administration, every sport is underfunded. I strongly suspect it has been underfunded for years, that got lost in the rush to condemn Skole (whom I don't know at all).

Baseball at ETSU is not a Tier 1 sport and a new coach won't change that.

I don't know if the Citadel has stronger funding for baseball, maybe someone else can help out with that.

He had a FULL COMPLIMENT of scholarships for 12 years. 9.9 scholarships. He won the conference ONE TIME. ONCE! So if the results are essentially the same whether he's fully funded or at 5 scholarships, why in the hell give him the 9.9 or whatever it is? Good riddance to him. You look at the kids choosing Tusculum over ETSU, that's all you need to know.

It is 11.7 and can be split among no more than 27 athletes.

Funding is more than scholarships.

RE: Baseball
My point is not to defend Skole, I don't know the man. My point is that resources are scarce, and the most basic definition of budgeting is an allocation of scarce resources (and financial resources fund far more than scholarships).

In a fund everything equally model, all sports are underfunded. In a tiered funding model, a select few sports are competitively funded and others suffer. ETSU doesn't have a $100 million athletic budget and we as fans can't have it all.

A does of reality is that we just can't have it all...

As a die-hard Buc, I wish that weren't true, but it is.

John Brice @JohnDBrice1
In other state college news multiple folks tell me watch @ETSUAthletics baseball coach Tony Skole 2 perhaps go to his alma mater The Citadel

If true this would make Brice 2 for 2 today as he had who the UT baseball coach was early as well.
