Would love to see it. Going into yesterday's match, a bit surprising to me, he had only started 5 of the Union's first 8 matches. Came on as a sub in the other 3 (and scored in 2 of those 3 matches where he came in as a sub). Decision-making like that might explain the awful start to their season. Hopefully, he is established now as a no-brainer full-time starter every match moving forward.

He just turned 28 back in December so he's at a prime age where if he's going to be considered for the USMNT, it needs to happen. For now, would just love to see him continue to build on this solid scoring start to this season. If he does, he'll get the accolades and hopefully opportunities for a bigger stage or two.

Gold Cup would be the right time for him to get a shot, although there are a lot of "new" strikers in the pool that might get a look like Dwyer and Ramirez plus the usual suspects like Altidore and Dempsey plus somewhat regulars like Morris and Aguedelo not to mention Zardes is back. It will be crowded. He just needs to keep scoring until mid June and see what happens.

I dont know squat about soccer at this level. I stopped playing at 15 and didnt even play in HS.

In watching CJ though, he seems a bit limited in what he can do with the ball. Altidore, Dempsey, et al are able to create for themselves and others. CJ is most effective inside the box - control and shoot, great on headers in front of the goal, etc. Is their room for a guy like that on the national team?

Wondo keeps getting the call and that's all he ever does.

Nice! The Union have really picked themselves off the floor and are back into the Eastern Conference race.

DC United is just pathetic. Ben Olsen is getting absolutely nothing from his forwards. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

DCU had Montreal, Philly and Chicago at home last 3 weekends. Didn't score a goal in any of them. Didn't get any points. Now sit in last place. Just awful. At least they'll be in a new stadium (with same crappy team?) next year. *SIGH*

Long time coming, but glad he's going to get his chance. I think he has a very good chance of making the USA team.

He's actually got a couple of caps from '12 but I really didn't think he'd ever make it back! Congrats to C.J., hope he makes the most of the opportunity

RE: Sapong to the Union
He needs to bag another couple of goals to secure his spot. Right now he has a one in two chance in making the final 23 man roster, as they will likely take only four of the seven forwards on the 40 man roster.

Forwards (7)
F
Juan Agudelo (New England Revolution)
F
Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC)
F
Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders)
F
Dom Dwyer (Sporting KC)
F
Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders)
F
CJ Sapong (Philadelphia Union)
F
Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

True but that was camp cupcake, this is the Gold Cup, probably the highest honor he can get (being realistic, minus an MVP showing over the next 18 months he won't get to Russia, given we qualify).

Dempsey and Altidore are practically guarantees, and Morris probably is too...so his odds are not great especially with Wondo as another choice

Wondo is a bum, I have no idea how he stays in the mix.

Dempsey, Altidore and Morris are locks, he's playing for the last spot up top.

That being said, he is a total baller and I'm so glad he's getting a look.

I will never forgive Wondo for missing the goal against Belgium in the last World Cup.

Wouldn't have counted due to a terrible off side flag anyway.

US will always get screwed by BS off side flags.
