I think it's smart. There is no difference in the number of games you have to play if you lose either game 1 or 2. Play the match ups that give you the best chance to win the first 2. Then go from there.

We should too.

that worked out really swell in the heat sink at MGM park in games 1 that led to Smith starting 6.....sigh

for example, let's say McCarty tosses 25-30 pitches and gets racked for some reason in game 1....there's no reason you couldn't bring in Smith or Braley and use McCarty in game 3 or 4 as req'd....

if I had my druthers, I go McCarty/Braley/Smith right now using JCK/Sandlin in mid/late relief and the others as req'd....

to add: if our bats don't heat back up, it won't matter who pitches which game....with the exception of a few, we're in a slummmmmp at the plate at the wrong time of the year....

Think we're shooting for the fences a bit too often....Rice shows ya how you single folks to death, move runners over and generally squeeze out runs.....Now, we ain't that kinda team, but you're not gonna have that big 9-run inning every night, especially when leadoff hitter and others are slumping..

Easy to find flaws, however....every team has some....and hopefully we break out of it this weekend

we were definitely 'jumping' at pitches this weekend....until Braley hit that walk-off jack, he was on his toes almost every swing....

and in the Rice game, we had what.....4 doubles and a triple for the five hits....

I agree with what you're saying....we need to get back to finding good pitches to hit at the end of the count by staying ahead (which also yields more walks) to get guys on base more....

Interesting .. at $15 per ticket per game / 7 games would gross $630K. I don't know what bids are now but probably around 100K? Still nets a good chunk of change to be distributed / squandered.

Maybe the temperature and humidity will make it tough on the boys from Chicago.

I wonder if the die hard State fans will jump at this for the simple fact State plays a 3 game series here to open up next season.

IMO, one would be safe to assume there will be some of 'those' purchases....

that's what makes it a good move coupled with the increase in local interest....any number greater than zero makes 'cents'....

The temps in Chicago this week are 70 for highs and mid 50s lows with humidity in the 40s. Hattiesburg will be low 80s with near 100% humidity.

I think I'd go with Braley in game 1. You don't want Smith out there against State. Have a feeling he'd be serving up BP.

I know Braley can get tired in the days after he pitches (might neutralize his bat), but I think we need McCarty in game 2.
