They did come close though. They had a 2 run 9th inning lead over Siena the other day, had 2 outs and 2 strikes on the hitter, and then he hit a 3 run homer.

Went look at box score. They pitched to a guy perfect on the day, who had a dinger, walked the last time up, and had 2 on. Brilliant coaching. Makes Peddie look like a genius.

Game 2
Georgia State 7
Georgia Southern 6
Final
I'm beyond disgusted at losing a conference series right before the tournament. Both games were close and I guess GSU was playing for a spot in the tourney but no way we should have lost this series.

With nothing to play for, AState and Little Rock have cancelled their series finale today rather than trying to play through rain. Trojans could have moved up to 8 seed with a win and Texas State loss, but 8 vs 9 seed is same matchup, just determines home team. Texas State will be the 8 seed, Little Rock the 9 seed.

It might keep USA from winning the Bubas Cup though, because TXST is 0.5 points ahead of USA before today's results. If LR had played and won today, along with UTA and USA wins then the standings would have been:
118 - TXST
118 - USA
117 - UTA
With one additional point awarded to the tournament winner it could have gotten interesting. I've never seen a tie and the SBC doesn't post tie-breakers (maybe it'd just be co-Bubas Cup winners?) but the scenarios existed for a tie or even a 3-way tie with a UTA tourney win. Now I think Coastal has to lose if we want to have some last minute Bubas Cup fun.

In non-unfamiliar territory (does it have to rain every time we play?) USA and Troy had a short rain delay to start the game, but now we are in a lightning delay.

And this is where Troy fans say we should have played the game at 2:00am because it wasn't raining then.

We will be out there till midnight to make sure South has any opportunity to take the 1 seed. They already moved this game up an hour, which is more than they did in '15...
When South was playing not to lose in 2015, they didn't attempt to accommodate the situation by moving the Saturday game to a double header on Friday. If Troy swept the series they win the conference. If South won 1 game, they win the conference. Troy beat Souths STUD on Thursday and South didn't move either game in attempt to play. And they won the conference, by 1 game over Troy.
Also, according to our radio broadcasters, if CCU loses today, and this game is cancelled, South wins the conference by 20 %points. So we will see if we wait it out to see what CCU does today.
*edit... well at this point (bot 1) it may not matter. South is ripping Mabry.

Yes, because the Cajuns didn't have time to win game 3 against the Chants.
USA will be #3 since UTA will get #2 for winning the west, despite not having the second best record.

And to further USA's misery, you get to face your good friends from Troy in the first round of the tournament.

And face that pitcher with an 0.93 ERA, second best in the country. Bad set up for a team wanting a tourney run for an at-large bid to the NCAA.

Congratulations Chants on your regular season championship! I joked about your tie game with Louisiana (although for a while it looked like it hurt you) but USA had its chance to make that tie game non-relevant and we didn't do it. Good luck in the SBC Tourney (except if we meet up of course) and good luck getting in the NCAA Tournament.

And we win the regular season conference championship.
I guess that Big South success did equate to Sun Belt success.
But for real...it's been nice having better in conference competition this year. If we don't win the tournament championship as well, at least our in conference shedule won't be a detriment to our at large hopes like it was when we played in the BS.
Go Chants! Keep the championships coming.

Thanks. Good season to USA too.
Nice to play in a conference that doesn't kill our RPI in conference.
