Well, you know if Tub beats Louisville he'll get a raise and an extension.
I'd settle for keeping it within 30.

RE: Will your OOC basketball schedule be American Strong?
UC is also rumored to play Florida in a neutral court game honoring 9/11
So it's
Florida (top 20)
@xavier (top 25
@ucla (top 25 or better)
Miss state (lots of talent on roster, any where from 40-80)
Then cayman island classic which has high level buy games and at best a matchup with Iowa. We should win that tournament

I'm hoping Sampson steps up the non-conference schedule now that he has the horses to compete.

It appears that he is. I haven't seen any SWAC opponents yet, which is a positive sign. He's starting to schedule like he knows he's going to have a very solid team. This will be the best team of the Sampson Era to this point.

The only true road OOC game is at nearby UAB.
teams such as Alabama and LSU are beatable P5s...@UAB, Albany, and NKU are solid mid-major match ups...and Louisville is our old rival. (it's a good blend of schools)
I'd love to see this team rack up some Ws early so they'll have some confidence going into AAC play where we will face teams like UConn, Cincy, WSU, SMU, Temple, Houston, etc. game in and game out.
Memphis can only afford to play like 2 road games a season OOC with our FedExForum arrangement. (assuming we play in a exempt tourney)

If you go by names, the schedule doesn't look very good... but NKU, Albany, Samford, and Mercer should all be top 150 RPI teams. Sienna and UAB are usually decent, but they are losing a lot of seniors. But this schedule could break pretty well for a Memphis. The computer numbers should be good enough to not kill their RPI, but there should be a lot of winnable games for a rebuilding team.

yep, not a lot of sexy 'name' match ups...but statistically it's a good blend of teams.

I think it's the type of schedule that should be the minimum standard for an AAC team. A couple major 7 teams, a couple strong mid majors, and only a few cupcakes.
We can't have teams playing more than 3 or 4, 250+ RPI games.

RE: Will your OOC basketball schedule be American Strong?
I just noticed that all 8 teams for the Cayman Islands Classic have been announced. I thought this was going to be a 4+4 type of tournament where the lower seeded teams play two games on the road vs. the higher seeded teams. But it looks like it is a true 8-team tournament, with each team playing 3 games at the neutral site. Here is the field along with last year's RPI rankings:
Cincinnati - 12
Richmond - 80
Iowa - 81
UL Lafayette - 115
Buffalo - 146
Wyoming - 151
South Dakota State - 155
UAB - 200
I'm kind of bummed there are no other sure-fire tournament teams in the field, but at least we don't have to play any terrible buy games. Additionally, playing a 3-game tournament has opened us up for the Never Forget Tribute Classic in New Jersey vs. Florida. So if we can get 2 top-150 games and a top 100 game out of this Cayman Islands thing, plus Florida, UCLA, Xavier, and Mississippi State, our non-conference schedule is shaping up very nicely.

You know what's sad? Last season, we only had 2 non-conference games against teams that were 250+ in the RPI. But in conference, we had 5, helping to kill any chance we had at a top 4 seed in the tournament.

If we could, I'm sure we would. For some reason, it seems like Maui and Battle 4 Atlantis want nothing to do with us. Last year we played in a tournament where we would have played Duke if we had gotten past Rhode Island. I'm not worried about it this coming season since Florida, UCLA, and Xavier should all be top 25 teams.
