Shane Evans Moving on from NIU
Wow, pretty sure he had two years of eligibility left. Figured he'd start this year. Hurts our chances of landing his little brother in sure as well. Good luck to him in grad school!

Congrats!? Was he the surprise transfer we'd been speculating about? If it's him, why would he be asked to transfer?

Congrats and good luck to Shane. Graduating in three years with a D1 athlete's responsibilities is a huge achievement.

This seems pretty weird, since his twitter makes it look like he practiced all Spring. Can anyone confirm that he played in the Spring game? Why suddenly decide to leave if you did this? Kind of fishy.

If there was he most likely would have stayed. I think hawn has a shot at starting at right guard. Not sure we have much of a chance with his brother anyway. His goodbye via twitter seems highly complimentary of NIU and the program.

Isn't Hawn competing at left tackle? But I like the idea of a true freshman getting experience at guard for a year and then sliding over to tackle as a soph. Anyway you can get your 5 best line men on the field.

Kind of an odd thing to say to someone who has started the past 2 years and heavily contributed the last 3. He didn't seem like a kid that was getting into trouble or caused problems on the team or anything. Why would you want a senior safety to transfer? If you have a stud younger kid at the position waiting to take his role and he wasn't going to play that may make more sense but I'm not sure that we do. Weird

Kind of reminds me of when Tommy Davis left for Illinois. Mayes wasn't terrible but it's not a loss I'll lose sleep over.

For sure, but the difference was that he chose to leave and pursue another school for his graduate year. I don't remember hearing that NIU coaches telling Davis that it'd be a good idea to do so. You're right, nothing to lose sleep over, just weird for the coaches to say that

Mayes lost his starting spot in the second half of last season and he may have been disgruntled to the point the coaches thought it would be a good idea for him to get a fresh start somewhere else. Just guessing here.

Tommie Davis left for multiple reasons. The biggest reason could be debated. I believe one of his parents was very ill and being from STL, Champaign was closer to home. He had also pretty much lost his starting job on defense and was going to be a return man.

I'm not sure in Mayes is being replaced but it wouldn't shock me if that was the case with guys like Embry and some younger guys developing. Hope he does well in Syracuse.

Embry plays corner so that's a mistake on my part. But according to the roster he is on the team.
