Liberty is playing at BYU in 2019 - that likely finishes out BYU's 2019 schedul.

Army is to make a return road trip AT Liberty in 2021...

I've been thinking about this. FBS teams can count 1 win against an FCS team towards FBS bowl eligibility. Liberty is currently in transition. So do they count as FCS or FBS?

My guess is they count as FBS to a full fledged FBS school like NMSU. But they still count as FCS to a fellow transitioning schools like Coastal Carolina.

Transition counts a FBS. So, you could beat Liberty and a FCS team and have 2 of the required six wins.

I should have clarified i meant for 2018 only during transition

RE: Liberty gets 2nd FBS H/H
Are there any chances the donors at Idaho leverage their administration into cancelling the FCS move and jumping onboard the Independent scheduling alliance?

Idaho could do double up deals with NMSU and/or Liberty. They really only need 5 home games and one can be FCS. NMSU and Liberty get them half way there.

If anyone else follows the trail that Liberty blazed from FCS to FBS things will only get easier for the Vandals.

If the Big Sky throws them out for Olympic sports they just call up the WAC and join as Seattle's travel partner. The league is getting more stable and looking a bit more western with Chicago likely getting booted after 2018, UMKC poised to join the Summit, and Cal Baptist coming on board. Who knows, maybe the WAC could be a shell conference for the FBS indies.

Idaho needs to act fast but they in theory have the tune to remain FBS Indy. The sands are down to the last few grains. I just think the Univ Pres is not a big football supporter.

I'd like to see them reconstitute the football WAC. Who cares if they are in the west. Just get enough warm bodies to get the conference going again. Idaho, NMSU, Liberty, UMass. There's 4, come up with 2-3 more and away you go. I remember the WAC played with 7 members a few years ago, before dying off.

There's 4 but where do the other 4 come from. Schools are fighting hard across the country to keep their FBS football programs. Don't see any more FCS schools joining today than we did in 2011 when the WAC was begging schools from all over the country to move up. No one has the money. Over the next 10 years I see more schools dropping than adding. Liberty is an extreme example that shouldn't give anyone false hope. They have private money.

Is BYU returning the game like the Liberty poster said on this thread? He said it was a H&H, not a 1 and done.

Not saying if their is a return game or not, just the article did not mention return games for either Rutgers or BYU. If correct, we should all know tomorrow.

We are not leaving the A10 for this, so you need another one.

It would be huge for Liberty to get Rutgers and BYU home games. That said, I'd be shocked if Rutgers returns the game....BYU less so.

Rutgers just announced a buy game with Liberty for the 2019 season. The only non-P5 road games Rutgers has played in the last 15 years are Army, Navy, and FIU. The fact that the B1G no longer allows FCS games could work out of n Liberty's favor.

The Idaho president has already committed Idaho to FCS and the Big Sky to KEEP their other sports there. The cord has been cut, the president has made up his mind, and the Olympic Sports are not going back to the WAC. 04-chairshot 03-banghead 03-hissyfit 04-jawdrop 03-pissed 05-mafia

Turns out BYU - Liberty are playing at BYU on Nov 9, 2019 (to complete BYU's schedule) and then BYU will visit Liberty on Oct 22, 2022. This gives BYU 5 road games and 2 home games in 2022.

This is what BYU had in mind when going Independent?

To be playing road games @ Liberty within a decade or so?

Sure, what's wrong with that. BYU's schedule that year already includes games @ Utah, @ Oregon, USF, @ Boise State, @ Stanford, and Baylor. Adding a game @ Liberty is consistent with playing a national schedule (the only trip back east that year) and helps to balance the schedule out a bit.

BYU's national schedule includes these trips beyond Utah and neighboring states:
2017: LSU (in Houston), @ Mississippi St, @ East Carolina, @ Fresno St, @ Hawaii
2018: @ Wisconsin, @ Washington, @ UMass
2019: @ Tennessee, @ Toledo, @ Washington St, @ UMass, @ SDSU
2020: @ Minnesota, @ Northern Illinois, @ Stanford
2021: @ USF, @ Baylor, @ USC
2022: @ Oregon, @ Liberty, @ Stanford
2023: @ Virginia, @ USC

BYU wants to play all over the country. The real question is will the game be in Lynchburg, or will it be a Liberty "home" game in someplace like Washington that has a larger stadium.

The BYU announcement said it would be at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg.

IIRC, Liberty is expanding their stadium.

We never gave Idaho a home game because their stadium was so small. I like the idea of helping out a fellow indy. But it made more financial sense to stay in Provo & split the pot.

I think we would have given Idaho a "home" game in Pullman. Martin Stadium is a couple miles away from Moscow. It's about the same size as Boise's stadium, where we signed up for a 10 year deal.

One can bet LU's Williams Stadium that currently seats 19,200 will be expanded, greatly expanded by 2022 when BYU comes to town. Seems like plans have been in place for some time waiting until LU became FBS. One can assume as the higher profile teams schedule to play in Lynchburg, the expansion of the stadium will likewise be reflected in consideration to it's increase.

Liberty stadium expansion

25K in the next few years.

Other reports show incremental plans to 30K and 36K, with potential built-in to the plans for 60K seats.

Plenty of BYU fans in Virginia and surrounding area, so hopefully Liberty does expand the stadium to at least the 25K capacity by 2021 or 2022 (whenever BYU is scheduled to visit).
