LU football FBS games - to be updated
If we are going to develop a rivalry with ODU we need to start scheduling them in multiple sports. I know UofL plays UK annually in every shared sport I believe (and sometimes twice- home and away), plus club sports, plus team manager games, plus fan games. Let's go LU admin, get those Monarchs on our schedules!

North Texas, nice! A winnable game in a location that we'd like to recruit athletes and students. I expect an annual game in Texas as long as we are independent.

I would certainly have no objections. It took 25 years for us to return to the Lone Star State before this past fall at SMU. While I am jazzed about Baylor in September, it is a long time until 2021 for UNT.

I'm hoping for Ga Southern, Ga Tech, GA St., Clemson, or UGA.

Rumored?

2018 Home Games - North Texas, Troy, New Mexico State
Away Games - Virginia, Auburn, Wake, Army, UMass, New Mexico State, New Mexico.

More 2019 and beyond games to be announced Saturday. The game against Wake Forest is part of a 2-for-1 with the Flames visiting Winston-Salem in 2022 and the Deacons making the trip to Lynchburg in 2025. Road contests in 2019 include Rutgers and BYU, while Army is scheduled to play at Liberty in 2021.

Seven away games is a major negative in my book. That would be unacceptable. I do like the winnable P5 games which could help put us on the map if we improve.

I'm sure they will add two FCS games to get the home to 12 maybe even 3 and have 13 games. I've seen Hawaii do that but I'm not sure of the circumstances.

Maybe I wasn't clear, but seven away games in 2018 only leaves room for five home games that season. Almost everyone has at least six home games. I will give LU the benefit of the doubt since it was on short notice but this can't be a regular occurrence.

I am a big fan of our opponents, especially our away ones. I don't think our home games will bring out that many more fans. Or more specifically, I don't think North Texas, Troy, or New Mexico State will provide many more visitors but I do anticipate more LU fans or casual locals coming to see a semi-recognizable opponent rather than someone like Presbyterian.

I think I phrased my comment not directly enough. I knew what you were saying about only having at most 5 home games. I'm saying they will add 2 fcs games more than likely to get to 5 home games and 12 games all together. I was saying they may also look to add an additional home game, likely an fcs, to get 6 home games bringing the total to 13 on the season. I know Hawaii was able to schedule 13 games in the season a while back but Idk the reasoning behind it. Might be something to look into though as home games are big money revenues.

I see what you are saying now. But when most schools play six home games minimum, Liberty feels behind the curve and it could harm the perception.

The Hawaii rule allows schools who play a game in the state of Hawaii to have another game that regular season. This wouldn't apply to Liberty. A tweak to the rule allows schools to play a week ahead of everyone else because prior to the rule change, schools would rarely schedule the 13th game because it would take away a bye week.

Great job to Liberty for getting such a good schedule. It is a relief to see six home games. What a great slate of opponents, and we open with ODU. Impressive and even more so for it being on such short notice.

It's a real testament to the Admins to pull this quality of a schedule together that the naysayers so bluntly said could not be done.

I told my wife, an alumni, and I think this is the first time I have seen her get remotely excited about the sports at Liberty. The UVA deal is huge.

Those are good but imo by far the best deal is UVA. Big in state school. A ton of exposure in state and they are coming to Lynchburg.

I too am most excited to play against Virginia, especially since they are coming to Lynchburg. Auburn is the biggest opponent but it is hard to top the in-state P5 school just down the road.

You'll have a long time to be excited in playing UVA as they come to Lynchburg in 2027.
