An elevator in a small building like that? Is that an ADA requirement? Are they going to have to put elevators in all the bluestone buildings?

Well lets see, the Presidents office is on the 2nd floor and handicapped have no way of getting to the 2nd floor. I thinks it's more out of common courtesy and accessibility that they are installing the elevator in that building. Most of the other bluestone buildings have elevators. Only ones I know that do not is Spotswood, Johnston and Sheldon.

Jackson does not have an elevator as far as I know.

Maybe I am missing it in this thread, but what is the fencing in front of Showker running all along Godwin field and even almost to the bookstore for? I am aware of the expansion of Showker/Chandler for the College of Business, but is all of this fencing (which also takes away all of the walkways) for that purpose?

Joint venture with the City of Harrisonburg and JMU to extend a bike path from Purcell park to the center of town.

Saw that Bluestone Drive is also under heavy construction. Is that bike path as well?

Yeah the bike path is part of the project to connect the park through downtown.

Lots of work going on through Grace Street/Mason Street too.

The hotel complex is really growing upward. Should be up another floor next week, with 2 more to go after that.

I was at JMU for MAC this past weekend and Dhall is coming along nicely, as is the hotel. They are going to be BIG. Did not get a chance to stop and take pictures but I did get to see Deez for a bit which is always good!

don't know if you guys caught this but the BOV discussed plans for the current convo after it is replaced by the new venue. Of note, the Breeze mentioned that the top option was an indoor fieldhouse for JMU athletics. Indoor practice facility, here we come!

This would make the most sense and something I had heard rumblings about in various places. It would take a pretty major gut job for that I would think, but maybe someone with more of a mind for construction could tell us better!

And this is where I make my semi-annual pitch for JMU to finally complete the bluestone facade on entire front of Burruss Hall, so that it looks like it looked back in the good old days when I was a student. I've never understood why they never completed that exterior renovation.

Per the Harrisonburg/Rockingham Chamber of commerce, these projects have the following GCMs:

CoB Reno/expansion: Kjellstrom + Lee (just finished UREC)
Phillips Hall/Dukes and new student dorm: W.M. Jordan (Hotel madison, Madison Hall, Student Success Center)
Wilson Hall Reno: Nielsen Builders. (Haven't seen them since the Forbes Center construction)
Convo & Parking Deck: Skanska (d-hall & CHBS)

"Per typical of summer on campus, lots of construction. Subtle excitement of soil testing at new arena site."

Invitation to Bid issued on 6/22 for an enclosed Tennis Air Supported Structure, next to UREC and D Lot. Contract to be awarded in July. Construction to begin August, and be ready for use no later than December 2017.

Guess the tennis team is getting a bubble!

We really do invest in all our athletic programs. Tennis was still using the courts near hillside.

Is it going where the UREC tennis courts are now, those are next to D-lot. I wonder if they will use the bubble at all times or just for practice/play in inclement weather? Either way its a great addition.
