Sunbelt TV Contract
Curious, what is the deal with you all's tv contract? Reading more on the Sinclair/Tribune deal, it seems like this could be a great thing if you can get Sun Belt games on the Stadium Network. One thing I did not realize, this deal provides WGN to Sinclair. Owning the rights to a majority of Chicago Pro Teams, that would be a great transtion into creating a stronger sport channel. In addition, appears Sinclair is not thrilled with CUSA. http://www.wvgazettemail.com/sports-mars...nteresting

I think MWC/SB could be a strong asset to Stadium but I have no idea of the Sun Belt commissioner would even think outside this box.

RE: Sunbelt TV Contract
Sun Belt was putting some of its overflow on ASN so no reason to think we wouldn't do it.

From the article - discussing CUSA's TV partners: "I’m hearing Sinclair wants out, which puts the whole ASN/Stadium thing in doubt, and beIN Sports wants out."

Ouch. Probably doesn't help our cause too much either.

Actually, I think you all have a better product. I think Sun Belt is capable of being on par with AAC and MWC. I believe up and down you are as good as the MAC despite having a terrible TV contract. If it was equal, I could see you all surpass the MAC. Become the SEC of the G5.

Now that we're down to 10 teams and somewhat stable, that's what we're all hoping for

I'd kinda like the idea of going after USM & Marshall.

Patience Grasshopper, we're not to that point yet. Still some work to do.

I like the idea of better TV deals as long as I can still view games on WatchESPN..... that said, I don't really understand the contracts in the first place.

I'm not a TV expert, but... aren't Sinclair/ASN/beIN all pretty new and desperate for content?

If they're not interested in CUSA, who the hell would be?

And yet many sportswriters (and some fans) want us to merge with that cluster....05-nono

RE: Sunbelt TV Contract
The CUSA ship is sinking...

I mean wow.... that conference has really been a taking a turn for the worst over the past year or two.

One problem they seem to have is that many of the schools haven't invested in the equipment needed to stream their own games on platforms such as ESPN3. I'm surprised they're so behind the ball on that.

Kind of makes me glad Troy wasn't involved in the exodus to CUSA a few years ago. I've seen more growth in the Sun Belt over the past four years, and actually a decline of growth in CUSA.

I don't know about beIN, but seeing how the SoCon pays to get their football on the Sinclair/ASN network I'd wager that they operate on the premise of making revenue via direct payments and the limited local ad revenues whereas with the CUSA they are a buyer.

As a buyer, there is probably limited ROI which has maybe caused them to re-evaluate their involvement.

I'd much rather find our game on ESPN3 than try to do a needle-in-a-hay-stack search for an ASN affiliated network that I probably don't have access too. In our case, our initiative several years ago in self-funding EagleVision and getting it up to the ESPN3 production standards has paid some early dividends.

The SoCon took the exit fees from Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Elon, Davidson and College of Charleston and rolled it into funding for their SoCon Digital Network. As a result, they have the capacity to send content to ESPN3 for the most part. Mercer spent their own money (actually funded in a one-week email campaign) to do their own digital production before they were officially in the SoCon.

I wonder how many of the CUSA schools have that capacity. You would think most of them would, but I'm not certain.

FYI, Sinclair, who now owns ASN will be partnering with Campus Insiders and another company to form "STADIUM" which will be broadcast on the Sinclair networks in place of ASN but will have a better online presence and I believe they plan on streaming everything on Twitter for free. So it'll be easier to find. It will be interesting what content they will be interested in if it's true that CUSA won't partner with them after this contract.

I agree, unless I can do it easily through Roku on my 1080 projector flawlessly.

As a career salesman I'm not very good at being patient. When I see an opportunity I go after it.

Someone call Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, and see how much they are willing to pay for some college football broadcast rights.

Rivalries are the key. Rabid crazed fans make good tv. The SB has a new hungry fan base and the conference title is much more a crap shoot with all the new solid programs. Early hate relationships are blooming like flowers in the spring time meadow around here. No longer can you be distracted by what's in front of you when what's on the schedule will likely be a slobber knocker. 04-cheers To the Fun Belt.
