FINALLY!! CUSA decides to step into the big time! Big time arenas, world class shopping, great nightlife and the country's #4 media market. What will CUSA fans complain about now?

Is Judy still our commissioner? Or has she moved on? There's just no way I can believe Judy was thinking outside the box like this.

^^^^ Now THIS is the way everybody should be thinking. You're going to have a GREAT time in a big time sports atmosphere, with a ton of things to do. And since it's a world class city, you guys from the east can fly in very affordably.

We have too many naysayers and negative people on this board from CUSA. Some of you honestly don't know when a good thing hits you upside the head.

Looks like C-USA might be hosting the basketball tournaments on a football field.

Quote:Could it be the site of the 2018 Conference USA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments? A vote by athletic directors later this month will decide.
...
Both UAB and UTEP used separate arenas for the men’s and women’s games through the first two rounds. The Cowboys’ facility could be configured to put two courts on the playing field, according to a source with knowledge of the proposal.
...
An announcement could be made before the conference’s spring meetings in Destin, Fla., May 22-24. The selection of the athletic directors is subject to the approval of conference presidents.

What do y'all think about this proposal?

Totally insane. CUSA is like Obamacare, it is imploding and a move like this would only speed the issue. Might be best though to go ahead and do it, would help putting this forsaken group out of its misery sooner.

Here's your proof! If Eager Eagle hates it, you KNOW it's a GOOD thing for the conference. Because EE is an idiot. Anything that poor bas-turd says or recommends, you want to do exactly the opposite. 04-cheers

Houston is probably close to Dallas/Fort Worth in terms of CUSA alums. Probably DFW gets the edge just because UNT is much bigger than Rice in terms of undergraduate population. I think La. Tech draws decent for the Rice games - UTEP does as well and UTSA does in football but not so much in basketball.

Unfortunately the Texans' facility is nothing like this and isn't a feasible option. Rice could host the women's conference tournament but not the men's tournament. And with the city routinely hosting the SWAC Championships (at the Toyota Center) and the Southland Conference (in Katy at a high school facility which is pretty nice), I don't see any realistic men's hosting sites here.

I'm still not sure I'm 100 percent sold on a dual-hosting facility. 12,000 seats isn't a ton really when you're splitting it up into two. I think if they want to host the men's tournament here, they could probably find a nice facility for the women's tournament somewhere in DFW too.

I take it you never, not once, been to a CUSA basketball tourney...

12,000 seat arena will be dead...you will be able to hear every bounce of the ball. Twice!. When it hits the floor and then the echo. Then if they do try back to back courts for the men's and lady's....

The TV guy will be going. "I thought I heard a whistle, but play is not stopped. Oh, wait, there it goes again" Color guy chips in...."Tom, it's a call in the lady's game playing on the court divided by the wall"
Sounds..."bigtime" to me

As for flying in cheap...Goggle list round trip $271 from Charlotte to Dallas and $307 to B'ham

I hope we all bring 300-500 fans but not likely.I know Western will have the same 150-200 that went to B'ham and if we are having a very good season you can up that to the 350-500

As I said it really doesn't matter where it's played, other than a beach location. Or a real destination city, like maybe New Orleans...it's going to be between 300-1500 there unless the home team is playing and hosting.

So Dallas is as good as any place but it will not be big-time...we will make the drive. Unless Western just sucks like this year...then I'm going to the Gulf instead of the 10 hour drive. Well need to add 30-45 minutes getting through freaking Ark. From right pass Memphis to almost Texarkana is awful...small roads and idiots sitting in the passing lane going 1 mile over or under the speed limit.

Last time UTEP made the CUSA championship game.

We have some good incoming players to compliment a depleted team that finished tied for third. Could be a good year for El Paso to host.

UTEP always has good turn out for games at UNT. There have been several times that the UTEP has had close to the same number of fans UNT has at the games in the Super Pit. It is not like anything the conference has done the past couple of years has worked, so why not try something else?

I'm still a fan of on-campus tourney games. Higher seed in a matchup gets to host. Will never be an empty arena.

You don't take I-40 and I-30 from Memphis to Texarkana? Unless there is construction (or rush hour in Little Rock), you can easily go 70-75 the whole way. Now 59 going south from Texarkana to 35 is smaller roads but it moves decent too. I drive from Houston to St. Louis once or twice a year going 59, 30 and 67, but really 67 in Arkansas is the only road where it's really small lanes and you can stuck behind a tractor or two (or the roads are flooded like they are currently).

I-40 from Memphis to Little Rock is better, road construction looks to be finish.
As far as going through Little Rock, you take 440 avoiding downtown to I-30.
I-30 from Little Rock to Texarkana isn't bad except for a few mile stretch between Hope to Texarkana with road construction.

Traveling on hwy 70 and 65 is very unnecessary unless there is a wreck. Just use Google maps.

It's been a year or so since we went through I-40 from Memphis to Little Rock but over a 6 year period of driving it every freaking year for a Western basketball game and sometimes twice or three times for Western football....

it just seems like it's one of those places road construction is always going to be taken place. If they had widen it to 3 lanes the roads would last way longer and less of a bottle neck when fixing it.

There's so much truck/rigs that use I-40 it needs to be 3 lanes. I don't mind it so much driving through Little Rock....hit 3 & 4 lanes and get moving. Get that the exit going to Hot Springs (somewhere along there) and it's back to bottle neck and 2 lanes.

I drive fast...way too fast for some people. But it helps keep me alert and puts space between my SUV and others. Everyone driving 70 or 72 or 75 seems to always be bottled up. Get to the Texas line and 75mph seed limit and what seems like wider roads and I enjoy the driving....even Dallas and constantly switching from lane 3 or 4 or 5 to get to that outside lane and freedom :)

I drive a lot for Western sports and vacations/fishing trips to the Gulf and S. Fla. Most years 45,00 to 55,00 miles and for some reason I would rather drive through traffic heading into DC at 7am or from from Waco to 15 miles past Austin (Mostly F-250 ) white knuckle driving in the passing lane going under the speed limit and backing up traffic) than from Memphis to Little Rock. Glad to see it's better because e always seem to hit it where it's stop and go for 10 miles.

The fact that our commissioner and possibly a few of our ADs want to play men's and women's tournaments in a single 12,000 seat arena with the two games separated by a curtain makes me wonder why we don't just schedule it in the middle of an AAU tournament?

A ******* curtain. Give me a GD break. How many bad idea can we come up with? Are we paying these idiots to tank whatever tiny shred of dignity CUSA hoops has left.

If so ticket prices will probably increase because you are paying for men/lady tickets together. If not I'm paying to see the Lady's game. Cheaper ticket and no way in the world can they stop you from watching the Men game in this type of setup.

Western and MT fans will be there, even if it's in Alaska.

We outnumbered Little Rock in Hot Springs in a tourney game a few years back. How far is LR from Hot Springs ? 45 minutes ?

But Middle fans went home a game early :)

I never met anyone that went to a SBC tourney in Hot Springs that did not like the setup or enjoy the way they were treated. Buy your ticket and get there and find a seat....as close as you can get. No yellow shirt ushers walking up to you once you are seated saying.. can I see your ticket. In a mostly empty arena, like we saw this year.

1500 people can sound like 10,000. Just a good place for a basketball tourney when you know there will never be more than 4500 fans

We don't know the details of the setup. I sorta doubt it'll be two courts at the Ford Center at The Star. Who knows there might be a few options like splitting the mens/womens tournament between two venues. There is an NBA DL venue down the street.

In my experience watching basketball in something made for football is not fun for the fans. Site lines are different and flatter so you are usually back from the court even sitting in the closer rows. But it's different and the western part of this conference needs to feel included. So even if it wouldn't be my first or second or third choice...

we have a far reaching conference
