And I'd be very surprised if Chris Paul is there next season. He can opt out of his contract and go chase a ring with a contender. Spurs are a likely option for that move.
Griffin might stay with the Clippers because other teams might not be willing to pay him as much as the Clippers, given his injury history.
He should be done but I think all Ballmer will do is pull Doc's GM hat. But they have got to move Blake. I don't know what the contracts are like but maybe the Clips could a trade for Paul George straight up.
To be traded this summer, Griffin would have to opt-in to the last year on his contract, and he won't do that if he can make more money by opting out. So he either leaves as a free agent or he's playing for the Clippers next season.
The salary cap rules always seem to be a mess to me, but apparently the Clippers can pay CP3 more if he stays than other teams can if he leaves - but that depends on the Clippers wanting to give 5 max years to a player who will be 36 or 37 in the last year of the contract, and it depends on CP3 deciding that the extra money is worth playing his entire career without ever having a legitimate shot at a title. He's never even played in a conference final.
Thanks for the info. As you said, NBA deals are wonky and the Clips can pay Paul $70 mil/5 years more than anywhere else. That's not chump change obviously, but if he re-ups with LAC then I just don't see how CP3 ever makes it to the conference final. Someone suggested maybe the Spurs would be a good fit for him.

The Clippers can't really bring back Doc Rivers after the team got blown out in Game 7 at home, can they?

Who really knows.... but they have really not performed well in the playoffs, irregardless of how good the Western Conference is... they need new players or coaches to get them through their own self imposed glass ceiling.

Irregardless of the results, Doc needs to go.

That ought to be illegal what the Rockets did to the Spurs.

IMO it depends on the Cavs' key players. If some of those guys are worn down from a long season or nagging injuries (like Steph Curry last year) then the Cavs can be beat. That probably won't be a factor in Cavs-Celtics, though. LeBron & Co. looked pretty good last night after getting a week of rest.

Isaiah Thomas carried the Celtics tonight.
Wizards really let it slip away, they were up 10 in the fourth quarter and had two chances to win at at the end of regulation.

Season-ending injury to Tony Parker will make it tough on the Spurs. Between that and the Rockets only needing to win their home games to advance, I'd say the Rockets are now favorites to win that series.

Cavs about to win their 10th straight playoff game going back to the finals last year when they won the last 3 in a row.

Cavs and Warriors have made it uninteresting but they are headed for a rematch in the finals IMO. If Houston wins tonight, then the other conference semi-final matchups will be tied 2-2 after Washington beat Boston.

Celtics will regret letting the Wiz hang around. That series should not be 2-2.
Spurs at least have the legit reason that they have to play without Parker.

The Spurs aren't clearly better than the Rockets, they got slaughtered in Game 1 with Parker.

Warriors and Cavs sweep
Rockets/Spurs AND Celtics/Wizards 2-2
Honestly, the Cavs and Warriors prior series put me to sleep... nothing to see here...
The other two have actually had some interesting games.

Biggest issues for the Warriors and Cavs at this point are avoiding complacency in their conference finals, and not being rusty after the break before the conference finals start.
And for the Warriors, when the going finally does get tougher, will they be able to overcome not having Kerr on the bench.

RE: The Official 2016-17 NBA Season Thread
Rockets-Spurs game 5 was one of the best playoff games so far. Green and Ginobili were clutch in the OT.
If you are Popovich: Do you let Kawhi Leonard try to play through his injuries in game 6, or do you sit him and hope that he's more healthy for a game 7 if necessary or a game 1 vs. the Warriors?
