AMCU was the extended name: Association of Mid-Continent Universities. It was just shortened thereafter, but was "officially" the AMCU. It was NEVER the "MCC".

The source I posted says the official name changed from AMCU to Mid-Con in 1989.

I'm going with that, unless you can provide another source (non-Wikipedia) to the contrary.

Here is the other, non-Wikipedia source: Mid-Continent Conference/Summit League from '82-'83 to Present

That shows Mid-Con from 82 through 2007. I don't see why that backs your point.

I do believe that the league started out as AMCU, but I'm going with that name officially dying in 1989. Sorry

RE: The Next Realignment Effect on the Horizon League
I read somewhere Robert Morris and HL only share 3 sponsored men's sports. Between that and Morehead's $1 million exit fee, it seems the two replacements would be Fort Wayne & IUPUI, unless they can convince UMKC to choose them over Summit.

Question is if MVC only takes Valpo/Murray, does Horizon only add IUPUI or package Fort Wayne/UMKC with them.

RE: The Next Realignment Effect on the Horizon League
Why on earth would Horizon teams agree that they should need to fly every team to Kansas City?? For a low-RPI program?

They can get that in either IUI or Fort Wayne.

The Mid-Con was called the AMCU as recently as last decade in the AP sports scores section. The Mid-Con was just a shortened version, much as the PAC 12 is rarely called the Pacific 12 or the WAC is called the Western Athletics Association, which are their true names.

If the MVC takes just Valpo my guess is the Horizon adds one and goes back to 10. No need to go higher unless you are adding strength, a package of UMKC, IUPUI and PUFW is not really bringing a lot to the table and it isn't like any of those schools are going anywhere.

Summit should take a run at Green Bay if Milwaukee ends up in the MVC.

False, nothing backs this up.

Agreed, but why would Green Bay come even in that scenario? Not sure that travel out to Dakotas, Omaha, UMKC (if it comes back), Tulsa, Denver ... is better than Great Lakes travel.

If Summit can get into Chicago and another city market, that might help their chances down the line. Horizon's dropping a bit, but the league is populated with city schools that make the recruitment game an easy one.

Maybe GB wants nothing to do with the IUPU's, but IUPUI is one of the places in the Summit giving Horizon prospects a taste of home.

IUPUI is much better than almost any Horizon school, except maybe Ill-Chi. Certainly, IPFW outperforms Youngstown St.

If you're talking City, I agree. If you're talking on-the-court product, Fort Wayne has the edge over the last 5 years: Fort Wayne, 101-66; IUPUI, 49-110.

I was talking both IPFW and IUPUI are more reputable to hang with than Youngstown St by University Presidential politics.

I think the IUPU's will finally get their wish and get in the Horizon league.

I read on the mvc thread that they're likely going w/ just Valpo and Murray St.

So is the HL going to take both and go to 11 or just 1 or go to 12?

Does anyone know if IUPUI and Ft. Wayne face a substantial exit fee?

The Summit recently raised their exit fee to $1 million. Think the Horizon also has a entrance fee.

That is a significant amount for any school leaving the Summit for the Horizon.

Not sending your teams to the Dakotas, Omaha, and Denver is probably worth that over 4-5 years.

The Horizon is a bus league that doesn't need air travel anywhere. IUPUI and IPFW can probably only bus to each other and W Ill in the Summit.

It will be nice if the Summit and Horizon finally get their own independent geographic territories instead of overlapping like they used to
