Goldwire visiting Eastern Kentucky tomorrow.

You'd think UNLV and Rice would be more appealing than EKU, but we do have players transferring to Howard after all.

Dang, according to Mark Berman we got Osborne. Didn't think it would happen, but I'm guessing we told him we don't have a shortage of playing time available.

Looks like Peera in year one may find himself working with more than Rhodes did in year one. Peera and his staff have done a great job off the mark under difficult circumstances. This gives me hope for the future....even the near future.

Super pick up at this point of the recruiting season. The new staff is working really hard. Should have another fun team to watch next year, although I am curious how the new guys will mix with the returnees.

Man,, this is a HUGE get. Great job by Pera and the coaching staff. Given his new-found height and ball-handling skills, this guy could eventually be even better than Egor. Dare I say it, but we could actually use him as a point forward.

This roster is now so much better and deeper than the one Rhoades inheretted. My optimism for next year is quickly returning.

You can find his mixtape here: http://www.courtsidefilms.com/news_artic...p-mixtape-

As you can see in the video, he's still really raw. He's not too fluid an athlete yet, which is probably attributable to a guy still adjusting to his size. But there's a ton of potential to work with.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting
Malik is a big get for Pera. He was offered by 10 schools including Oregon State and Seton Hall. On his visit to Seton Hall he even had a photo with the coaches and Ice Tea ( yea that guy). Still committed to Rice. He really should be more than a 2 star but if you sign with Rice it's sort of like Rivals in football. He looks a lot like Letscher -Ellis.
Now a point guard or 2 and it will be a new fun team to watch. Grow together become brothers and stay together. I think the NCAA has to do something about this transfer epidemic, over 500 and counting. Free agency while you are still an amateur.

Huge pickup. Jack Whitman, transfer from W&M, is visiting UNC this weekend so I doubt we're in the running there.

I agree this is a big get for Rice. Choosing Rice over a P5 offer, a Big East offer, and an AAC offer suggests that, unlike some past Rice players, he may stick here even if he is successful. While I agree he is likely a better player than a "2-star recruit", I don't really blame the recruiting companies for under-rating someone like Osborne. When a player changes so dramatically in a short period of time, with some of that change occurring in a post-grad year, its not realistic for the recruiting companies to follow every player and update every rating under those circumstances.

Updated look at Rice's projected 2017-18 roster:
SR (3) - Mency, Dylan Jones (Tr), AJ Lapray (Tr) (maybe 2 years of eligibility?)
JR (1) - Cashaw
SO (4) - Adams, Harrison, Martin, Meyer
FR (3) - Hunter, Spence, Osborne

Still 2 open scholarships.

RE: Men's Basketball Recruiting
We still need 1 true guard IMO. The Missouri State grad transfer is the guy I would love to get at this point. There is no question we'll be shooting less 3's next year (that's pretty much a given when you lose Evans, Egor and Jackson). I see us more of a slashing/inside focused team and it wouldn't surprise me at all if we end up with a more traditional two guard, three forward type lineup (with several of the forwards being small forwards, and the bigs being more power forwards than true centers).

Do we know whether Addison Owen and/or Grant Youngkin are returning? Those are two more guards. I've mentioned it before but either of them could be put on scholarship next year if we still have openings.

I've talked with Grant, and he is returning. He's hoping for a scholarship, but guess that depends on how many signees we get.

Shaping up to be a pretty nice class. With the 2 grad transfers (so far) and Mency we will also be able to sign a full class next year.

I heard that we had a VERY intriguing transfer on campus yesterday, but he would have to sit out a year if he does come.

Have we waited long enough to get a hint?

I don't think Kobe used any of his college eligibility.

Pera just followed [Miles Lester] on Twitter.

Goes to Prep school in Massachusetts but originally from Kansas.

Coach Linebaugh just started following Lester on twitter. Lester started following Malik Osborne on twitter.

Perhaps even more interesting than the increasing smoke surrounding Miles Lester is that Lester also followed a guy named Tim Thomas II. His profile lists him as Rice 2021 and shows pictures of him posted in Rice gear on April 8th. It took some digging, but I think he's in the same prep league as Lester and is listed as a 6'4" G/F. He has a couple other recent follows/followers that are Rice students or future Rice students.

edit: trying to confuse my research skills, he has an older twitter account ... and an even older twitter account! I have no idea whether he is related to retired NBA player Tim Thomas.

Peferred walkon?

Looks like a different profile than the twitter pics.

I have no inside information regarding Miles Lester or Tim Thomas II. I am just reporting my twitter research. I also noticed that his twitter pics do not seem to match the NERR profile pic (and the newer twitter pics do not match the older twitter pics). I am stumped. Perhaps the Tim Thomas coming to Rice is not a basketball player?

edit: the more I look at it, the more I think he's just a student attending Rice, rather than a basketball player (some of his other twitter friends have taken similar pictures and posted them about the colleges they are attending). Just big coincidence that Miles Lester and he followed each other on twitter and that there is a basketball player in Lester's current basketball league with the same name.

Well that was a waste of some time!

Miles Lester highlight

He plays fast. Who know how he'll translate, but his shot looks good to me, and we need another PG. Is Ako Adams the only scholarship PG we have right now?
