Me either. But we don't know the whole story.

He's also a kid. You never know who's been talking to him and what they're saying. Certainly frustrating.

I wonder how much this would affect the team? He was obviously a leader on the floor with his play. Off the court, he always seemed to kind of keep to himself.

RE: CJ Bryce
You have to think he has been actively recruited by someone. I think he can play at a higher level than the CAA but it is always a crap shoot and it seems to not workout more times than not for guys that want to move up in competition. I assume that is his plan-if he has one. I would not allow him to go to State under any circumstances if I am the AD. This is hard to fathom why he would think he should leave a place that has been so good for him.

Agree. It seems unlikely he would file the request if he didn't already have something lined up. And yeah, likelihood it works out vs being an all time great at UNCW? Big time risk.

RE: CJ Bryce
I'll wait for details before judging. He's a young man, and he has to make the best decision for himself. I hope he is surrounding himself with people that are advising him well. I hope he stays here, but as I get older, I just can't begrudge college students for looking out for themselves. I have full confidence that any staff UNCW hired was/is going to make Bryce a centerpiece, and I don't think he'll see that in the ACC.

As far as what he's thinking, I imagine he's trying to figure out which opportunity is going to give him the best shot at the NBA. Brian Urlacher had the philosophy out of high school that he wanted to go where he'd shine the brightest, rather than being 'just a guy' at a school with the biggest profile. I think that is good advice, but CJ hasn't asked me yet, or Urlacher as far as I know.

He is certainly not an NBA player, there are dozens like him available who won't be drafted.

RE: CJ Bryce
He may get a look down the road, you never know. He could go overseas for sure.

I don't see it as a good basketball decision to transfer. He will lose a year by having to sit out. And, there's no guarantee about playing time in the ACC either. He has the ability to play but will he shine like he does now? Who knows?

He seemed like a pretty smart guy so I'm surprised that he's unwilling to give the new coach more of a chance than this. Well, good luck CJ. It's better now than later and I really hope that he has that magical 2.6 GPA or better.

Sucks. He's an almost impossible talent to replace at this level.

We're going to need guys like Talley and Fornes to be studs for us this year.

Well there's a development. Sucks when you call your buddy and all you have is a pair of 3's.

RE: CJ Bryce
I have a feeling coach Manuel can keep him on board. Those two have very similar games and are about the same size. Maybe his pro experience and high level of play as an NCAA player can help them bond.

Truth of the matter is he's an exceptional player at this level, but he's struggled when we played higher level teams. At our level someone with his skill set is unique, at the Acc level they are a dime a dozen.

CAA is like the 11th best conference out of 32 but I sort of understand your reasoning. CJ has a nice game and ability. I'll just leave it at that. He's really good in transition for sure. That driving layup in transition against C of C was very good plus he was fouled too actually....most people couldn't have done that at any level of college ball. He definitely has some tools to work with.

That wasn't meant as a knock on CJ at all. 11th or 20th it's not a P5 and he's struggled against them. As we saw with UVA and that one kid having a career night, those teams are loaded with 6'4-6'7 athletic slashers that's my point

Jackie may be able to mentor CJ, but I don't see many similarities in their game. Manuel couldn't shoot at all. Once Roy returned to Chapel Hill, Manuel only shot 28 threes in two seasons (and was a career 28% shooter from three). But, he has experienced a coaching change in the middle of his college career, and he's still a young coach. He should be able to relate to these guys better than anyone.

RE: CJ Bryce
I've seen enough of CJ to believe he has a good chance of being successful in a P5 environment. Good ball handler that is almost always under control when he takes it to the basket. Fairly good behind the 3pt. stripe and can certainly improve. Excellent mid range game, better than most at any level. Good passer and solid defender. He's certainly not an explosive athlete, but he has a lot of skills. His performance vs. P5 schools is such a small sample group that I wouldn't attempt to judge his future against that level of competition. If he can improve his handle some more, get stronger and become a better 3 pt. and free throw shooter (probably his biggest weakness at our level...if he was an 80%+ guy from the stripe, I'd have encouraged him to take it to the basket relentlessly) he will be a solid contributor for someone. He has the tools. Question is, is sitting out a year worth it, not knowing what might happen with the coaching staff or other guys that may be brought in? He's definitely a guy that can fit in and contribute at the P5 level, but he's also a guy that will have earn every minute of PT for the next 2 years if he goes there.

Interesting side note...I think he'd work out at Clemson. They don't get elite prospects under Brownell, and if he improves his shooting, he'd get plenty of minutes as long as BB is around.
