My first run would be going to 12.
I'd shoot for Texas-Arlington (scratches the itch for people liking markets, it's the 5th largest) plus Little Rock (slightly larger market than Tulsa, bridges UTA and MoSt, not a hub but has direct flights to Dallas and St. Louis, reasonable bus trip for non-revenue sports for most of the Valley) and Valparaiso just under 75 miles from Chicago O'Hare, helps keep the Public/Private balance in shape and one of the better known mid-major brands.

If that happened, would really screw up the travel partner plan in the SBC.

Map: Since St. Louis is a hotbed of soda surrounded by pop country, I'm guessing the MVC won't take them! Have to get a school in pop country.

Based on that map Mizzou should be in the PAC 12 and Colorado should be in the Big 10.

Son, you are new to the board. I'll give you a pass this time, but normally you don't refer to veteran posts as "idiocy"

Sorry - this was just sitting there (possessive versus plural).

Yeah, they sure do talk funny up at the Mistake on the Lake.

But hell, everybody talks funny these days. Why back in the day theys was all called sodie-pop, and we liked it. Not only was you kids too lazy to keep using the proper name, you couldn't even agree on which half to use!

And another thing, about these namby-pamby "roughing the passer" rules ... {continues} ... and I put an onion on my belt ... {continues} ...

Chicago is generally "pop" territory, while downstate Illinois gets into "soda" territory. It's interesting because I believe that the urban vs. rural usage of pop and soda is reversed in some other places like the Northeastern states (where the urban areas use soda more and the rural areas use pop more).
Many folks in the Suburbs say Soda but you hear pop as well

I like this link. 22 maps showing how Americans say things differently.

http://www.businessinsider.com/22-maps-t...ica-2013-6

My favorite is how Wisconsin and Rhode Island both say bubbler instead of water fountain.

Darn newbies...grew up in small town Iowa where everyone said "pop". My Dad and Grandparents still say "warsh" and "oh yah"---the German way.

Not new to the board. Registered same time as you. I just don't post as often as you vets. Maybe not an appropriate choice of words, but I see it time and again when someone posts a topic it inevitably veers off into something that has nothing to do with the original post.

I guess I just need to develop thicker skin.

RE: MVC to hold emergency meeting on Sunday in Saint Louis (Rothstein)
Based upon university size, attendance and recent hoops success Oakland should get alot of consideration. With a FT enrollment nearly 13K(3rd with UWM18L & UIC 16K) , their attendance matches UIC (a little over 3K per game each); what they would give the MVC is a Detroit Presence. Considering that Loyola is already giving the MVC a flag in Chicago plus ISU, SIU & Bradley having lots of alums in Chicago, I say Chicago is already well covered. Detroit has tremendous hoops talent and with the MAC more of a football conference (EMU) and Detroit Mercy a small program (also Horizon), adding Oakland allows the MVC to spread their wings and add another large market.

Oakland has also done well in the post season during their short time in the Horizon League. Made it to the 2nd round of the NIT this year beating Clemson on the road and giving RIchmond a competitive 2nd round game coming up short 83-87. Last year they lost in the Finals of the Vegas 16 tourney by 1 pt to Old Dominion. In 2012 they made it to the semi finals of the CIT losing to UT ST in that round while beating Rice, Buffalo and Bowling Green in earlier rounds. In 2010 & 11 they won the Summit League titles, in the 2011 nCAA Tourney as a 13th seed They lost to 4th seed Texas by only 4 (81-85) the year previous as a 14th seed they lost the opening round game to Pittsburgh.

Overall their postseason success is ahead of UIC.

While I will not disagree with your assessment of Oakland and their virtues for MVC inclusion, I think quite a bit of the MVC's choice(s) will depend on which direction they want to go and how far. With Oakland you now have two outliers at opposite ends of the footprint.

Oakland also has facility issues. They need an upgrade in both their baseball field and the O'rena, arguably the two main sports in the Valley. The O'rena tops out at 4,000. They need new synthetic turf for water drainage so they can play baseball games. It hasn't been about the "cold" so much these past couple winters, but the rain which has caused the outfield to be water logged.

They do however, have good all around sports programs as witnessed by them winning the McCafferty Trophy (All-sports) 2 of the completed 3 years they've been in the Horizon.

You clicked on a thread in the realignment forum. You should have automatically expected banal idiocy.

It'll be UIC (less likely Valpo) and the Tourney will move to Chicago, which is where it should be.

Oakland and Milwaukee are respectable options, as is Valparaiso (despite struggling to keep enrollment up). I would add Wright State to that list, as they have the best "numbers," -- the Dayton area really supports it's college Basketball. But UIC simply scores out the best by a healthy margin, as it has a larger alumni base and is in Chicago. Yes Kansas City and Omaha are nice metros, but the school's have weak programs and no much fan support. Simply not close to MVC standards. Murray? No.

RE: MVC to hold emergency meeting on Sunday in Saint Louis (Rothstein)
This whole thing is a crock and I am thrilled we are done with the MVC. Loyola was such a **** pick that Elgin has no choice but to double down with UIC. If they really cared about basketball, about RPI's, about attendance, they would have done things differently. Back in the day when WKU wanted in, nope the private schools turned up their nose. Murray State, the same except the Gateway wasn't willing to help out the MVC to get the deal done. Butler vs Evansville, we chose the loser on that one and that expansion could have been a game changer. The one time it actually worked out was UNI. At the time and on paper it was a terrible move and Shox fans weren't happy. UNI proved everyone wrong, Missouri State has been pretty solid but got straight punked by their admin over the last 20 years. It happened to us in the late eighties and we were In a tail spin until the mid 2000's, so it happens. The rest have been mega failures, they are what they are and have already peaked. Bradley will dominate this conference in the future.
