RE: WNIT 2017 Run
Well sorry to see the season end but it turned out to be a great season considering the issues with Dee Dee leaving and Kayla missing the entire season due to the torn ACL.

Looking forward to next season with Kayla coming back and the 2 transfers plus all the playing time everyone got this season. Should bode well for next year. Think Coach O also had a great first year and did a great job working around everything.

Many congrats and cheers to P for her hard work and leadership this season and her previous 3 years. We will miss her. Hope she is able to extend her playing career for many future years.

Go Dukes!!

Brian

RE: WNIT 2017 Run
Agree, Brian. Dukes should be more balanced next year and a better team overall. Not a knock on Hall by any means, btw. She was terrific. Carried the team on her back for great portions of the season.

Nova travels to Indiana. The winner was going to travel to Indiana as the WNIT site posted this before the JMU game was over... "Villanova/James Madison at Indiana, 2pm ET" (on Sunday).

The Hokies won at Penn State. Kenny's bunch now travels to Michigan, who is my favorite to win this tournament.

Dukes will be back, win the CAA and get back to the Big Dance next year where we belong (IMO).

With the exception of Hall, this is a really poor shooting team. I worry where the points will come from next year.

JMUs defense was atrocious late in this game and in overtime. Nova got several uncontested layups due to overplaying by the Dukes on defense.

RE: WNIT 2017 Run
Really exciting game to watch last night (well, exciting 2nd half when it was actually a close game). our missed FTs combined with their 50% from 3 in the first half was definitely the dagger last night. Only 1 team out of 64 gets to win and everybody else has to lose. I'm sure the players are miserable still today, but they have nothing to hang their heads about. Missing the conference title was probably the only miss on the goals this year. A modest WNIT run makes up for a one-and-done in the NCAA tourney for me. I'm proud of the entire program, and excited for next season. Coach O did great in year 1. Congrats to the team! 04-cheers

RE: WNIT 2017 Run
Forgot to mention the fans - Great turnout last night, and the Villanova fans I sat near and talked to throughout the game were very pleasant. FAR different from the snotty UVA fans last weekend. The UVA fans around us were rude, flipping off JMU fans and the band, and just a bunch of cry babies overall. I want to know how many cranky emails the president's office got last week from UVA blowhards.

So acting the same exact way as back in the last WNIT tournament. Got it.

RE: WNIT 2017 Run
There was less of a JMU student presence at this UVA game than the last WNIT matchup for whatever reason. The students were killing that UVA guy last time. I didn't see the bad UVA fans, but I was pretty focused on the game. I sat on the GA side, so maybe that's why I missed it. Not surprised they were condescending or rude...

I, for one, and shocked (SHOCKED I SAY!) that fans of the snootiest university on the East Coast (outside of that small school in Princeton, NJ) acted in such a manner.

Can't wait to play them again soon. I'll make a sign that reads, "The Convo is not a Safe Space."

RE: WNIT 2017 Run
I have to give a huge shout out to the Pep Band for all their help and support this entire year and especially during the tournaments. They are some of the most delightful students you would ever want to run into on the JMU campus. They may walk the PC line every once in a while (okay frequently) but their passion and support for both basketball teams is second to none. They have the ability to get the crowd into the game that the cheerleaders cannot do and I know they have rattled opposing teams many more than once. Great enthusiasm and musicality - they should be touted by anyone selling JMU to an interested student (especially those interested in playing or supporting basketball). They definitely are the sixth person on the team.

I talked with several of the Villanova fans (probably parents) last night and they were very complementary of the facility and everything that happened last night. I know winning does that but fans of several teams we have played this year have marveled at the atmosphere that is JMU WBB. I still remember the Tennessee gentleman who wanted to take the Pep Band home with him to show their Pep Band how it should be done.

The JMU Pep Band indeed continues to own the Convo. One bonus in the current Convo is that the Pep Band is pretty much "on stage" on the end and up high. I believe in the new Convo that added feature goes away some as I figure they'll be closer to the floor and "down view" from most eyes. We'll see. I have no worries though. They'll own the new Convo when the time comes. They are terrific.

I think a lot of people leaving early with 1.6 seconds left on the clock must not have realized that that rule existed. It makes all of the difference in the world.

I don't know why they don't do this in the men's game.

I came here after many, many years at Tennessee (hence my screen name), a number of those with season tickets. When I got here I was absolutely AMAZED at the JMU Pep Band. I thought Tennessee's was pretty decent, but OMG! These kids blow the roof off the Convo Center every single game! If the UT Pep Band did that at Thompson-Boling the place would be unbelievable. I hope that Tennessee guy at least took some video! Maybe if we did a home-and-home with UT our pep band could go along with the rest of us and show them how it's done....

All that said, I am surprised and a bit shocked that none of you have mentioned the real turning point of the game, with was that defensive stop JMU put on early in the 3rd quarter that lasted almost a minute and a half. 'Nova couldn't score a lick and that was when our girls started gaining on them. That stop was a real thing of beauty, IMNSHO. If we can do stuff like that next year, life will be really good.

I wouldn't worry too much about where the points will come from next year because I think that instead of coming from one place, they'll come from everywhere. Scoring should be a lot more balanced. Kamiah has already shown that she's going to be pretty unstoppable when she gets going, we'll have Kayla inside again, Lexie's shooting should improve, we'll have Kelly on board, and who knows what the new girls bring to the table. Plus we already know we've got one of the best coaches in the CAA, if not THE best!

Charlotte Smith of Elon was on the short list for the job at Florida, so you know she's gonna get picked off one of these years real soon. Just thought I'd throw that out.....

I may have mentioned this before when I said Coach O must have given quite a halftime speech, so I will take credit for it 03-wink That said, I had one eye on the Madizone feed and another eye watching Legion on DVR (which is a GREAT show in my opinion), so I missed the effort, but saw the results.

I know I have felt like "I wonder what we're gonna do next year" several times in the last 10-15 years and somehow we just keep reloading.
