Poor analogy.
Here's a better one. You played the lottery and won 20 million dollars. Do you take all your winnings, buy 20 million in lottery tickets and hope you hit again, or do you put most of it in the bank and only gamble what you can afford to lose? Last time we put it all back in the lottery and lost it all, in hopes we could win again. I'd hope we learned a lesson.
I would use a majority of it to pay for advisors that would ensure I never encountered any risk, ever. Play it safe, fellas. Bunt in the first inning. Hire the young assistant because he'll come cheap.
Playing it conservative, out of a fear of failure, isn't my style. It's not like Christian is some unknown coach.
Emojis from my kids:
I'm open to either scenario. The primary benefit to Siddle is that he brings continuity and maintains our brand. Look at sustained success mid majors like VCU. Yeah they may lose a coach but they maintain a successful formula and brand of basketball. As a mid major you are going to consistently lose coaches if you are successful. You're naive or in denial if you think differently.
Gonzaga is one school in 300+ where the coach won't leave to pursue new opportunities. You cannot honestly expect that to be the situation EVER here or anywhere other than Carolina, Duke, UCLA, etc. We have a brand. We have an identity. Let's sustain it.

RE: Siddle Interim Head Coach
Trying to hire a quality coach would not result in us ending up with another downfall and tournament drought. This administration is worlds better and more than capable of nailing this hire.
Have to be able to trust that they'll do their jobs on this one. Not to mention, there's no such thing as a "safe" play with any of this. Every hire comes with a fair amount of risk. Coach Keatts came with risk. He had to turn this program around with a brand new system. The new coach will be walking into a much better situation.

RE: Siddle Interim Head Coach
I'm open to either scenario as well. If Siddle is THE guy, meaning you come away from his interview saying he's the best, I'm fine with the hire. But, I can't support hiring him to mitigate risks. We pay Bass too much money to make a choice because it's safe or easy. Go through the process and hire the best candidate, with proper consideration given to our style of course.
82, in the end, we all want the same thing, so I've probably reiterated my stance thoroughly enough. Man, I hope we're close to a decision. Here's to Bass and company making the best hire for UNCW and all of us celebrating another championship next year.

RE: Siddle Interim Head Coach
Ok. Lemme' try again.
1. Best case scenario - Successful coach stays and keeps your style of play intact(Coach K)
2. Next best scenario - Successful coach leaves and an assistant steps in to continue on the same path you've been on for continuity and for recruits who were picked for your style of play. Current players, fans and administration are familiar with the coach(think Wainright to Brownell handoff).
3. Next best scenario - Successful coach leaves and you can hire a successful head coach from a lower level school that plays the same style. Nobody knows the coach, so you hope they have the right personality for your program and can closely match your winning style.(Coach Christian)
4. Next best scenario- Successful coach leaves and you can hire an assistant from a successful, superior program who has worked in a system with your style of play. Noobody knows the coach at your school, so you hope they can work out as a head coach and fit the personality of your school(Coach Keatts).
5. Worst scenario- Unsuccessful coach is fired, and any of the scenarios from above are equally appealing except keeping an assistant.

I hope we can have this wrapped up by next week, or early the week following. We may be waiting on some tournament teams to finalize, much like we waited for Keatts. Not bad to have a coach onboarding from a successful NCAA run.

In a game that came down to the final possession, against a very good, top-seeded Gonzaga, in a game played in San Jose, California, no less. They played their scheme very well and had Gonzaga rattled. It's no wonder they led the nation in turnover margin by far.
Could that bench have any candidates?

You mean a #4 seeded Sweet 16 team lost to a number one seed on the final possession? Color me shocked. WVU played them into one of their toughest games they've played all year, and it was their swarming pressure defense that took this to the wire.

Judging by their bios, I didn't see anyone overly impressive. I saw Mike Phelps name mentioned for UNCW job (on Twitter) as well, but he doesn't seem ideal either.
Of all of the assistant coaches coaching last night, Travis Steele from Xavier is the most interesting.

Did that team win or lose?
You need to create a signature that says 'I hear things'

That would narrow it down too much and possibly compromise my Russian sources.

It would narrow it down to 12 unnamed people. Why even share?

Because if true, a Sweet 16 team that has attained that level of success is on our radar. That's a good thing.

So it is pretty obvious that a guy here knows who the next coach is or is the top choice but prefers to be passive aggressive with his knowledge. Give it up ! Throw a bone to a hungry dog ! This board has no power to sway it either way-I think.
