Does he give Tom Crean a call, given the success that he had at Marquette while it was a member of CUSA?

Please, I hope not. First, look up Creaning. He did it at Marquette... he continued it at Indiana. I don't want that brought to Rice University.

Second, I think he's a slimeball. There are multiple videos of him yelling at opposing players as the attempt shots in front of his bench. If he loses, it's a guaranteed blow-by in the handshake line. Not a class act at all...

But finally, I don't think he's a very good basketball coach. Good to great recruiter... yes. But in terms of developing players or in-game coaching he is far behind many other coaches.

He had success at Sam Houston, but is barely over 0.500 at UL-Lafayette. He is also 58 and may want to finish his career at ULL.

I think our current position really requires a youthful, high-energy coach.

A violation of the ADEA if approached in such manner.

Is it if the application isn't open to the public?
Yes. Disfavoring a person due to age (protected at 40 and over) is a violation of law whether the job is posted, applications are taken, only a handful of candidates are found by a headhunter, or hiring from within, etc.

The guy down at TAMU-CC seems to be doing a pretty good job. And he's a Rice alum.

Check your facts. You got alum part right. But he's been a HC for 21 years and has never taken a team to the NCAA tournament. If that's acceptable to you, I question your standards.

Or do you prefer just stirring up stuff?

Good. I don't know a lot about him, but he obviously has a great relationship with (former) Coach Rhoades, seems to have the trust of the team, and is a mentor to James Harden. A couple other highlights from his bio - he was named the best assistant coach in the Ivy league in 2013 and 2014 and the best high school coach in southern california in 2003 & 2006. He coached high school state champions in both Pennsylvania and California. I hope he intends to run a similar style of basketball and I hope he can bring on a strong supporting staff!

He was the lead recruiter at ASU before Rice.

Just my opinion, but this is a very good decision. My understanding is that JK was prepared for this situation and had a pretty clear understanding of where he wanted to go. I think there was a momentary delay to make sure to touch all of the bases. Scott can clearly handle the job as an "X & O" leader and he will move us forward.

I agree. I think this is a great outcome for the Owls, will provide continuity and hopefully result in maximizing player retention.

It's already been announced that Brent is going to VCU with Mike.

Team appears overjoyed. That's a very positive development. Kuddos for Dr. K for acting quickly in an effort to mitigate the potential losses.

Marcus Jackson looks pretty happy too. Although I recall Sean Obi being at Mike Rhoades' press conference only to announce days later he was leaving.
