RE: Per McMurphy: Wichita State will accept AAC invite if offered
More importantly:
"Meanwhile, the AAC is also making a decision on the future home of its men's and women's basketball tournaments. The women's tournament will return to the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut, next season and likely for the foreseeable future, according to a source.
The men's tournament will be in Orlando in 2018, and the league is looking at Orlando being an anchor site that gets a set number of years in a rotation. The other candidates being discussed for the rotation include Hartford, Connecticut -- which has hosted two of the past three seasons -- and Tulsa, Oklahoma, which just hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament and boasts at least five schools within driving distance."

"A source said it would take a 75 percent vote from the current conference membership to add a member and that the AAC is only looking at the possibility of adding Wichita State and not other schools."

This now seems like the worst kept secret in sports.
I'm feeling a Wichita St invite by June for the 18-19 season .

That means 9 schools must vote "Ye"
I really wonder who the schools are that would vote "Neh" though.

Enough East Coast. I don't really care where they put it, as long as the Atlantic Ocean is a couple hundred miles away.

Let's put it the farthest away from everyone where the weather is the potentially the worst in early March.

Hartford gets a good crowd when UConn is good (which is pretty much every year other than this one). It makes sense to keep it in the rotation. As for Orlando, everyone would love to travel there and UCF fans showed last night that they can be a great basketball fanbase in the future.
When Cronin can stop choking and advance beyond the 2nd round of the NCAA Tourney, maybe Cincy fans can earn the right to stop complaining about Hartford. Until then, deal with it.

Except it costs most conference fanbases a fortune to get to either UCONN or UCF.

Surprised Tulsa is getting a look rather than New Orleans. Seems like Orlando and New Orleans would both make attractive alternate destinations for the tourney as they are fun places to visit. Tulsa? Nice town--but not really much of a tourist destination.

RE: Per McMurphy: Wichita State will accept AAC invite if offered
"While it doesn't have a football program, Wichita State does compete in men's basketball, baseball, cross country, golf, tennis and track and field as well as women's basketball, cross country, golf, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball."
That would give the American:
Men's: Football (12) - Basketball (12) - Baseball (9) - Cross Country (10) - Golf (11) - Tennis (10) - Track & Field (9)
Women's: Basketball (12) - Softball (8) - Cross Country (12) - Golf (10) - Tennis (12) - Track & Field (12) - Volleyball (12)
Unaffected: Men's Soccer (8) - Women's Soccer (10) - Men's Swimming/Diving (4) - Women's Swimming/Diving (6) - Rowing (7)

Orlando's airport a major one and there are cheap flights from darn near anywhere in the US.

Orlando could work if they would market travel packages for each of the schools.

Well, where is a central location of a conference member that most fans would travel to? Memphis is the only one I can think of that accommodates the northeastern schools (UConn, Temple, Cincy) who are usually pretty good. I guess Philly isn't too bad an idea, though.
Even though SMU is good most years, Dallas is too far from the rest of the schools that I mentioned above that are usually good. New Orleans is a great city, but odds are that Tulane won't be a player most years.
You play where your best schools are located. This conference can't afford to risk that possibility that most years it could be playing its conference title game on national television in front of an empty house.

Tulsa getting a look is a good indication that the conference knows Wichita has the votes. Tulsa fans will show, Wichita fans will show, SMU will show, and it's probably not too bad of a trip for Memphis or Houston. East Coast won't be happy, but the Midwest is unhappy about Orlando and (especially) Hartford, so that's the tradeoff.
Why they're looking at the women's site, I don't know. That tourney should stay parked at Mohegan for as long as UConn's in-conference, unless they're thinking of moving it to Hartford as a concession for the men's tourney not coming back.

Chappy I was thinking that!!!! I swear put it in Miami or Orlando and get American Airlines or travelocity to partner on our Miami Beach and basketball tourney. I would fly discounted with the package spend money and go to the bowl/tourney.
Hotels airlines and local economy all benefit. Partner with freaking Disney. Get the Koch bros all rich diners from Houston ecu and Memphis and invest in AAC sign the gor to take away instability and Payday and an exciting tourney and major bowl
