The report finds that each of these cities account for 18 percent of the entire manufacturing production of the United States. Their population is younger than the national average and have less people on social services than the national average.
All told, the 5 larges sanctuary cities, rather than being a drag on the economy, actually pull more than their weight for this country.
Who did this study? I'm guessing it's somebody with an agenda who stacked the deck to get the result that he/she wanted.
And this result doesn't suggest that being a sanctuary city improves your economy. My guess is that they were in pretty much the same place economically before they became sanctuary cities. Would that be a good guess?
You may not be far off. Unfortunately, I caught the interview in the middle and didn't get a chance to find out who conducted the study. Otherwise, I would have looked it up and linked it here.
While I realize that most don't consider the economics when it comes to this issue, I think it's important to understand.
Changes in immigration policy will have economic consequences that people should consider.
I'm in favor of permanent guest worker status, but no citizenship for anyone who came here illegally.
Why? Why would you deny someone citizens because they in essence committed a misdemeanor?

Because I don't believe that they should profit from their illegal behavior.

I'm torn, I mean really torn.... The fact it was Saint Patrick's day last week did not, and should not, make it a day where people who are breaking the law are untouchable.

At the same time, prowling a parade looking to arrest people for a non violent crime, seems a bit ghoulish.

Yeah, I don't really care for Cinco de Mayo celebrations, but ICE just patrolling the streets looking for excuses to arrest someone to determine whether or not they might be illegal just doesn't sit right with me.

If you've got documented proof that someone is illegal, sure. But the way I understand how ICE works, many times they don't even find out someone is illegal until their name comes up for some other reason.

yea, we dont want ICE in our streets watching for criminal activity, because that might lead to them arresting and deporting someone who is found to be illegal.

Yeah, if only ICE operated that way. Allowing them to patrol anything essentially gives them carte blanche to grab someone for littering just to see if they are illegal or not.

Again, documented proof, by all means. But don't sit there pretending you are providing extra security when you really just want a reason to check names on the off chance you run across a couple who aren't here legally.

But don't you believe that the punishment should be equal to the crime? I mean even murderers get to keep their citizenship. Shouldn't there be some recourse for undocumented immigrants who are otherwise willing to be upstanding citizens in every way shape or form?

I met a guy today whose parents attempted to freaking paddle across the Gulf of Mexico and it's shark infested waters just to give themselves a chance at an actual life. I certainly would not call their efforts lazy.

It is impossible for illegal aliens to become citizens. Legal immigrants who have legal residency can eventually become citizens. Takes years and they have to pass a test. The illegals are not being denied anything. DEPORT

So its ok to deny others, who are trying to go through the effort of the legal process, a right to their life. Because thats what the illegals are doing.

If it makes you feel any better, we'll be sure to boat them safely back to their homeland so that they dont have to deal with the sharks.

There are other countries in which they can also get an actual life. Let's see them go to those countries and pull the stunt they did here. Of course, those other countries will likely shoot them for attempting to cross the border, throw them in prison, and so on. They probably will not give them welfare benefits paid for off of the backs of the working people of that country.

Its not that they cant get a life anywhere else, including their homeland. Its that they cant get a free ride anywhere else. And if they werent interested in a free ride, then they would have done things legally.

If you don't like it, change the laws.

Until then quit expecting us to ignore the laws just because you think we should.

The real irony is Obama might have had enough pull to get the laws changed had he chosen to enforce them rather than ignore them.

I don't know. How long does it take to go through the process to come to the U.S. legally? It's possible that's it, as much as anything. There's certainly more opportunity here than in their home countries.

It will take as long as we deem it to take. Our country. Our rules.

I have been a sponsor for two different families to become citizens. It takes a while. It takes work. Which is why these people get so pissed when they see illegals bypass the process and get immediately get financial assistance, while they themselves have to continually jump through hoops and prove they will not be a financial hardship on the country.

First of all nothing you said is correct.

1. There is no law that says that undocumented immigrants cannot become citizens.

2. No one is suggesting you should ignore any laws especially since it seems you are making them up as you go.

3. Obama never stopped enforcing the law. Just because some immigrants got into the country.

Have we stopped enforcing the laws against murder since they still occur?

I met a guy today whose parents attempted to freaking paddle across the Gulf of Mexico and it's shark infested waters just to give themselves a chance at an actual life. I certainly would not call their efforts lazy.

Yea I know, somebody at work whose wife came to this country had to go through a lot to move here legally. Not sure how long but it was a long process. Can certainly understand they'd be pissed.

Wasn't until fairly recently I knew there was such a thing as sanctuary cities. Doesn't make sense to me either.

It does when you find out that the feds have no funds to support the detention of undocumented immigrants.

It's one thing to not have the money to imprison them. It's another to try to keep others from coming in and deporting them, if that's what they're essentially doing. States' rights, I guess.

I don't know of any city where that was occurring before Trump took office. Do you?
