So far, UNCW gets an A+ on how they handled the CAA tournament, the NCAA tournament and now this.
The players found out from social media. I would say the discounts any "Great job" UNCW did handling this.

If that is true I'm greatly disappointed. They deserved to have Coach Keatts sit down with them and tell them in person.

Isn't that on Keatts rather than UNCW? He interviewed in Raleigh today, accepted the job and met with the State players at 8pm.

I would put it on both. The AD had to have known and/or been told of Keatts decision. At which point he should have told Keatts to inform the players or done it himself.

Keatts met with UNCW players at 8. News started leaking out on social media at 5 today. Yow met with State players tonight.

All the information I'm reading says Keatts met with NC STATE players at 8 to be formally introduced to them. I haven't read anything about him nearing with our players.

Unless we started having team meetings in Raleigh for some strange reason, that meeting at 8 was at NC State.

The news was breaking faster to ESPN than it was to anyone else. Not sure how UNCW could have beaten social media to the punch. They are allowed to publish speculation and "reports". UNCW can't make a statement until something official comes about.

Are you serious? The coaching staff or AD could have called a meeting and given the team a heads-up. No excuse for how this went down!

Things are different these days with social media. I'm sure Keatts wanted to tell them in person first. You really can't blame him. Incedibly high profile school and high profile hire. Social media is going to run with it. It's the times we live in unfortunately. State had to go full court press and they did.

You guys need to take your rose colored glasses off and face reality. It shouldn't have happened the way it did. Everyone knows about social media which means everyone should have known that news travels fast.

Serious question, would you be interested in taking Brownell back, if Clemson fires him?

Oh please. Give me a break searching for something to complain about here. This was a whirlwind action. The team just got home around midnight last night, Keatts was already at an interview the next day, and has an agreement signed, sealed and delivered by that late afternoon. Many of the administration were still in Orlando today.

Give it a rest. EVERYONE, including the players, knew the rumors and possibilities. But I doubt anyone knew it would happen this quickly.

Amazing what 3 years can do, because my answer would be no. We need to pluck another coach off the Pitino tree, not change to a completely different style. I still like Brownell but that wouldn't be a good fit anymore.

And there's probably not a chance he would look to come back here anyways, I imagine.

Former ODU coach Blaine Taylor might be interested. He is currently serving as the top assistant at Cal-Irvine. For those that don't know his history, he was let go at ODU 5-6 years ago due to a drinking problem that began due to issues in his marriage so we were told. By all accounts he has cleaned up that drinking problem and looks better than he did 10 years ago. He is definitely a defense first style coach (like Brownell), but he had many great years in the CAA, got ODU into several NCAA Tournaments, and made the NIT Final Four during his 10-11 year run at ODU. He has more wins at ODU than any other coach. Some people on our boards are saying that they would gladly take him back today over our current coach (Jeff Jones) now that he has gotten his life straightened out.

Edit - Forgot to add that I am sad to see you guys get some success back into the program and then have the architect of the success move on to a bigger school. Hope you achieve continued success with whoever UNCW ends up getting to replace Keatts.

3 years ago I would have said Yes! However, after seeing the "Pitino" style of play up close and work for us, I think we need to stick to the scheme that we have now. Guess the question for everyone is, would Brownell open it up a bit?

I prefer to maintain the style, but I'd take Brownell back in a heartbeat. Keatts saved us, and while I'd like to maintain his style and keep his players, I'd be interested in Brownell assuming he wouldn't be interested in aggressively climbing the coaching ladder.
