He will probably have to either go to a mid-major or take a position as an assistant at a major program before he can get a job as head coach in a major conference.

So you're saying the MEAC is not mid-major?

I would say it's low-major.

The MEAC is a solid basketball conference, but it's always been a one-bid league. I'd personally classify mid-major leagues as those that typically get at least 2-3 bids per year.

The MEAC is the absolute definition of low major. That doesn't mean Moton couldn't skip a mid major however.

I think Crean is a good coach, but I'm not sure the NC State fanbase would like the optics of hiring a retread that just flamed out at a blue-blood.

I wouldn't wish Crean on the Pack, I like them to much.

Heard TB mentioned for IU.

Illinois is reportedly willing to offer him $4.8mil a year and he currently only makes $2.1mil from UVA.

UVa can match that.

RE: NCSU coaching search
I don't think Tony Bennett cares about the money, to be honest. UVA seems like the best spot for him to me.

I think the only reason Illinois is offering that much is that perhaps they think it's an offer he can't refuse. And if I'm Bennett, I don't see the allure of leaving UVA for Illinois. You already have the personnel to run your system at UVA, so why leave for a rebuild? It's not like coaching in the B1G is an upgrade over the ACC, and he hasn't shown any reason to believe "going home" means anything to him.

I also don't think that the Indiana faithful will be all that thrilled about the stylistic fit, either. I just feel that the pack-line defense and Tony's grind-it-out offense isn't going to be a good match for the Hoosiers.

I agree. TB should use this to get a good pay raise out of Virginia & stay put. I would consider Virginia a better job than both Illinois & IU at this time.

Bennett would have to be crazy to take the Illinois job. He's got things going too well at U.Va to take anything other than a job at the absolute top -- Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, UNC -- and I wouldn't bet on him taking one of those jobs. U.Va will come up with the money.

The Pack will be back.

No doubt but in order to achieve that goal, the pack needs to stop blaming everyone else and take care of business.

When teams have a strong fan base and they aren't winning you get that. When Carolina and Duke go journey through the desert, and sooner or later they will, you can bet your bottom dollar their fans will react the same way. It is human nature.

Carolina went through that ish with Doh and very few blamed anyone outside of the UNC administration or AD office. Doh wasn't ready for such a huge task and it didn't help that he alienated everyone, even the basketball office people.

If he had stayed 5-6 years it would have been a different story.

That is correct. It isn't a mid-major.

He could be a savior or he could be a bust. There is too much risk. State needs to not screw this one up and have to start over again in five years.
