UC beat 4 Tourney teams. I think SMUs schedule hurt both teams.

Really disappointing on the ncaa seeding though. How is smu ranked 12 and seeded a 6? We are definitely viewed as a 2nd rate conference.

It's called politics in sports. Thank goodness there is more to the world than sports because each year/day I get more and more disillusioned with sports. It started with professional sports but has crept into college sports.

Worse than the seeding is that a tournament that features so many mediocre P5 programs has somehow managed to pit the "smaller" powers against each other;

St Mary's vs. VCU
Creighton vs. Rhode Island
Butler vs. Winthrop
Dayton vs. Wichita State
SMU vs. Providence (possibly)

God forbid those schools have a first round chance to knock off Maryland, South Carolina, Michigan, or Oklahoma State. That would upset the narrative.

+ a million

THey are purposely trying to cut in half the chances for any "upsets" that change the narrative away from P-5 world. eventually i wouldn't be shocked if they figure out a way to cut out the little guys entirely. They already do in a way by refusing to play us in our own gyms. Almost nobody will come to Moody.

Is it about the narrative? Or the money?

Having those 10 teams play each other guarantees that group wins five games when they might have won 6 or 7 or 8 games against mediocre P5 schools.

Each win in the NCAA tournament is worth over $1.6M, right?

On the other hand, maybe the committee wanted to ensure some cinderallas advanced? Because those 10 teams might have only won 2 or 3 or 4 games against P5 schools . . .

Seeded better than 10th seeded Wichita State even though they had nearly 4 times as many losses. I won't watch any game unless the game has at least one non-P5 team in the game this year.

Yep, it's easy to see though. Pathetic really. The P5 owns the NCAA at this point.

I'm still in disbelief over the SMU seed. I figured they were a 3 or 4 seed easily.

This isn't about SMU or UC. It's about ECU and USF and Tulane. They need to trend north. The line seems to be going north, but it needs to continue with much more significant growth. Need to reemphasize the programs.

Same thing was said about SMU football several years ago and they finally listened. It can be done.

Gotta keep growing.

Don't sleep on Vandy, they are a better team than many think. Don't be shocked when they win their opening game.

The big surprises to me were:

(1) Duke as the last-place #2 seed. IMO, they are the best team and will win the event. Villanova got screwed having them in their region.

(2) SMU as a #6 seed. SMU has been very good all year, they should have been about a 4-seed.

(3) Wichita State as a 10 seed? That's just crazy. They are a solid 6- seed. Dayton got screwed having to play them first round.

I'm fine with UC being a 6. I figured we would be a 5 or 6 depending on if we won the AAC or not.

SMU should have been a 4 easily. I think they are a 4 or even a 3 in terms of quality of team. SMU is going to make some noise for two reasons:

1. They are a darn good team
2. They are not a household name so I think a Baylor like team will 'look past them' to a degree. This should never happen in the ncaa vs anybody because if you are in the tourney, you are a good team, but it does happen.

According to Vegas, SMU is tied for the 11th best odds to win the whole thing. Makes the seeding look even more foolish.

Losses don't, particularly bad losses, don't seem to count. They (probably) have the distinction of having the worst loss of an "tourney" team when they got blown out by 8 and 24 Missouri 72-52. That game was just a month ago, so not that far back. Mizzou is one of the worst teams in all of division 1 basketball. Add the fact that no team has ever made the tourney with 15 losses and you have to wonder if one big win over Florida is all that is needed. At least 16 and 16 Temple had two good wins over WVU and Florida State, both on the ROAD. Maybe they should be in the tourney too.

The overall RPI #12 (UC) and #13 (SMU) got shafted, IMO.

I'm not pissed about a 6 seed for UC. I am pissed about the fact that they are getting sent 2,300 miles away from home to potentially match up against a 3 seed in the second round that will have a home court crowd.

Just listened to our coach speak and he said he is actually happy as we get the Friday/Sunday setup which gives our players another day of rest and being in Tulsa is as close to a home game as we can get.

Also believes 5 seeds are cursed haha

not bad...better than us with 1 bid in the NCAA and 3 in the NIT. At least the NIT paying something for the schools in the tourney.

LOL, they're playing an 8/9 game vs Northwestern. Why would anybody be surprised if they win? That doesn't mean they deserve that seed at 19-15. FFS, that's criminal.

Who said anything about how good they are? About 25 NIT and CBI teams could make the Sweet 16 if they made the Dance. It's about what they earn.

19-15 isn't so bad when you've played what RealtimeRPI says is the #1 schedule in the country.
